We had an extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. After being seated, we waited approximately an hour and a half for our food. During that time, we were repeatedly told that it would be "right out," but it never arrived. We had planned activities after dinner and ultimately had to cancel those plans because what should have been a late lunch turned into a nearly two-hour experience. Three people at our table ordered drinks, and two of them were served in the wrong size. When our food finally arrived, every meal was cold, including the plates. To make matters worse, the items on our receipt did not match what several of us had ordered. One member of our party was completely skipped when orders were being taken. While this did not contribute to the delay, it was frustrating and made her feel overlooked. We later learned that our waiter was new, which we could have understood and been patient with had we been informed earlier. Instead, we were only told this after numerous issues had already occurred. When we asked to speak with a manager about our concerns, the manager refused to come out to the patio. We were told we would need to go inside the restaurant to speak with them. After already spending nearly two hours waiting for food and dealing with multiple problems, we did not feel it was reasonable to wait any longer, so we paid our bill and left. The waiter relayed that the manager was offering a $25 gift card as compensation. However, after the experience we had, none of us were interested in returning. Even then, the discount applied to the check did not match what was shown on the receipt when it was brought back. We understand that mistakes happen and that new employees need time to learn. However, the combination of the excessive wait, being repeatedly told our food was coming when it wasn't, incorrect drinks, cold food, billing errors, poor communication, and management's unwillingness to address our concerns directly made this one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences we have had. read more

It is on the bigger side, too- so good chance you can get a seat without reservations. And it can accommodate bigger groups. Margaritas are large and they have many options. We've been here several times because we live in the neighborhood, hoping to get something that is really good we keep trying different things. But we we've always been disappointed in the quality and the taste. Here is an example...the enchiladas, extremely dry inside.No sauce, no flavor the outside had barely a shred of cheese. Super cool atmosphere, surprisingly not very busy on a Saturday night. Complimentary chips & salsa were great, also got some guacamole and queso. We were worried about the queso cause it didn't seem very thick but it was delicious! I was disappointed with the spinach enchiladas though, they were pretty plans. Tasted like microwave spinach with no seasoning in maybe gluten free tortillas, definitely didn't taste like traditional corn or flour tortillas. Queso on the top didn't add enough flavor, wish the spinach would have been sautéed with some seasoning and mixed with cheese or something. Chicken enchilada was great, didn't skimp on the meat at all. And they didn't hold back with my spicy margarita, used fresh jalapeño and kept the seeds in it! The portions are huge, and the elote and tacos are great! I was craving some Mexican food, which is nothing new, so we decided to try this location. It was our first time at a Plaza Mexico, so wasn't sure what to expect. The location is nice; seems like a newer development. We got there around 830pm and we're seated right away. I wanted a margarita so opted for the guava drink they had, which was overly sweet, and I disliked. My husband got the smokey mezcal margarita and really enjoyed it. I liked the chips and salsa. We ordered birria tacos and the steak street tacos. The food came out really fast. The birria tacos were good, but the tortillas could've been done a bit better and cooked longer. My husband enjoyed the steak tacos, but I thought the steak was lacking flavor. Service was mediocre. I felt like it was bare minimum and could've been better. Overall, not my favorite spot and unsure whether I'd return since I've had better Mexican food in the area. read more

This is hands-down, my favorite Mexican place in the Frederick area! They offer indoor and outdoor seating as well as seating at the bar. Staff is always welcoming and I am usually seated pretty quickly. I've gone for both lunch and dinner as well as have ordered for pick up. Service is always very fast and efficient. Food is delicious and the menu offers quite a variety. I wish that they offer a tangible lunch menu, however, it is available online. My go to is usually the ground beef taco salad or the pick 2 lunch or dinner combination with a cheese and beef enchilada Both come with rice and beans. When I go to heaven and turn on the tabs, I am definitely going to see the seafood dip that they served at this restaurant. The dip was creamy smooth filled with delicious shrimp bits of crab cream cheese, sour cream, all in an umptious, delicious, warm bowl we split the Arroz Texans This is a dish that came with everything you want in a Mexican meal, rice, steak, chicken, seafood, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, avocado, and two tortillas. The tortillas were warm. The Tex-Mex mixture was perfectly rich in flavor.. We've been to Plaza Mexico three times over the past few months and every meal has been amazing. The service is great, the atmosphere is colorful and comfortable and the food is delicious! I've tried a few vegetarian dishes like the burrito loco and the veggie quesadilla and both were amazing. However, my favorite item on their menu is the table side guacamole... it is so bright, delicious and full of flavor, I highly recommend it! He was also our waiter and I could tell it would take a while because he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to serve multiple tables and work the bar. I got the mezcal Paloma and it was picture worthy but taste wise I didn't feel like I was in Mexico. The grapefruit soda in the drink was flat. Also I ordered enchiladas normally those come with a little bit of pico and sour cream on the side, but not here. $2 extra for a side of each. The pico was dry and lacked acid and salt. I was told before drinks were good and food was just okay. After my visit though I discovered the restaurant physically is pretty and that's where the high notes end. read more

My friend and I came on a Friday night and we were seated right away. Our waitress (I never got her name) couldn't be bothered. I could never finish my sentence or request before she would walk off. One star for bringing us fresh hot chips, but the salsa was just okay. Nothing to brag about. I ordered the carne asada and my friend got a steak taco and cheese quesadilla. Portions are on the smaller side than what I am used to at other restaurants such as Guapos and uncle Julio's. I was disappointed in the lack of flavor for my carne asada and im used to carne asada made with skirt steak. The steak was thick and gave me pork chop vibes. The tortillas were unimpressive, thin, and felt like I was eating store bought tortillas vs homemade. January 2024: Ever have one of those days when, after work, you don't want to cook, you just want to go to a favorite restaurant and relax? That was me today. We drove in to Frederick to the PM out near Wegman's (a favorite). It didn't go well. I decided I wanted a mushroom quesadilla, but mistakenly said "cheese quesadilla". After the waiter left my wife pointed that out so I went to the register where he was and told him. He said I couldn't have that. That threw me off...I didn't understand. I have had many mushroom quesadillas there. I was just telling my wife maybe we should just cancel and leave and the waiter came up. He said something about a cheese quesadilla and putting mushrooms in. I was rather confused by this time, but I didn't want to cause a scene so I said that was fine. They brought the food but honestly I was stuck in simmering mode and just wasn't hungry so I didn't have anything. I later asked for the check and they had removed my plate from the bill. I told them it was fine I am happy to pay for what I ordered, He didn't charge me for my plate but I added it to the tip amount. I didn't want them to bear the cost of my order. We've been coming here for a couple of years now, and loved the food. But it must be time for change. I know this will not matter in the long run, and that is fine, but this is the last time I'll go there. We've been noticing that staff just don't seem to be as friendly as they used to be. My Arroz Texano hit the spot, especially the massive shrimp! They were juicy and cooked well. The margaritas were also incredible - I recommend the pineapple jalapeño marg. Service was fast and pleasant. Interior is updated and comfortable. The only feedback about the visit was the music in the dining room. I wasn't personally bothered by it, but they were playing hardcore, uncensored/unedited rap on a Sunday afternoon with children present. Some of the music was truly explicit which can make for an awkward environment when in mixed company. I've experienced a variety of waitstaff--some provide excellent service, while others fall short. Overall, I'd rate the service 2/5 across both locations. I come from San Diego, and I can tell you that this is authentic Mexican food! The carne asada is delicious. The Chorizo fries, or as we call it in Cali, "Chori fries" are outstanding. I have eaten here numerous times and the food is consistently delicious every single time. I have also ordered take out several times and the food is delivered perfectly. Well let me start by saying- we love it here. We have a family of 7 and everyone leaves happy despite whatever anyones mood- we usually order mock-tails for the kids and margaritas/ Paloma mazcal, table side guac, a steak burrito, chimichanga, quesadillas, steak/ carnitas tacos, nachos, mixed fajitas and tamales. Absolutely everything has been delicious every time. I love that the drinks taste like they're made from scratch and the service is attentive but sometimes they do get busy either way we'll keep coming back. Always ask for extra hot salsa. read more
