I really wanted to find a place that doesn't get enough praise and give it the spotlight but...there are just too many other better options. First impression - the space is large and inviting. And the staff- one of the most attentive and friendliest places I've been to in Frederick. Not just our server ... but everyone greeted us and saw us to the door. The food was good. I ordered steak and shrimp fajitas and both were buttery tender ( just needed some more spices?) A little pricey in comparison to a few of the other Mexican places we tried. The big miss of the lunch was Valencia Orange margarita... it tasted like tequila on ice. Again, no flavors. I ordered the mango frozen marg and it was the consistency of baby food and really sweet. Was in Frederick,MD for the day and decided to try again lunch here. Our last time was not good. This time I had the creamy crab soup and chicken tamales. My partner had carne asada. I absolutely had an amazing experience with the creamy crab soup! It was indeed creamy and full of crab and the flavor was of fresh crab with spiciness and that comforted creaminess. The tamales were also fresh tasting, a great portion and very flavorful. My partner was not too happy about the flavor of the carne asada. I did notice that it used to come with a dollop of crema fresca and guacamole but this time none were on the plate. I think this maybe the reason my partner didn't find it as appealing as other times. I also noticed we weren't asked if we wanted more chips and salsa. If you're a Chips & Salsa person, this is the best Salsa in the area, just a higher quality, and fresh chips. The prices are a bit above average but house Marg (no salt for me) is refreshing, (go during happy hour if you can to save a few $$ because they are on the smaller size, but again really good), or get a pitcher. Steak Fajitas and/or Shrimp are very good, Seafood Enchiladas are some of items I enjoy, service is easy, as the restaurant is open area for the main dining so it's easy to flag your server down. When I moved to Frederick I wanted to try one of their many Mexican restaurants. The service here was pretty good as far as the server goes. He was attentive and checked on us regularly. Now the food is a different story. We went on a Sunday around 12pm and were one of about 5-6 customers in the restaurant. The food took about 30 mins (my order plus my kids ordered basic hard shell tacos) but no worries as I wasn't in a hurry. My food was awful as it had zero seasoning (very very bland) and everything I had was cold in the middle (were these perhaps microwaved as the plate was very hot). The crazy part is we spent well over $75 (also had some interesting Queso as an app that was very watery and lacked flavor). I would not recommend this place if want good food, especially for the price. There are far better options locally. Very disappointed. read more

Spacious and well-staffed Mariachi had our expectations set pretty high on being seated. Then the stale tortilla chips and watery salsa chopped those expectations down some. And so it went all evening for our party of five. My wife loved her Masitas de Puerco and ate every bite. She thought it simply outstanding. The drinks menu is rock solid if a tad pricey, but the bar staff knows what it's doing. Service was rock solid, which has come to be a treat these days in early 2023. My fajitas combo was pedestrian; I've had better and worse. I was frustrated that its soft tortillas came on the plate with toppings and in direct contact with both the guac and the sour cream - made for a goopy mess to eat. On A Sunday at the dinner hour, the restaurant was not at all crowded. I think they deserve to be busier than they were - maybe better signage could help? The mens room could have been cleaner, but I've sue seen worse of late. Finally, our table happened to be positioned beneath an intermittently flickering LED ceiling light, which was disconcerting unless you worked hard to ignore it. The bottom line is that the misses at Mariachi are easily addressed at minimal effort and cost. They could become more of a desintation, easily. I suggest they do so. read more

We stepped inside to the smell of fajitas and a smoky grill. A very spacious dining space provided seating options for couples, small groups as well as large groups. Our server was friendly. The food took a little longer than I'd like but, you know, the wait will be worth it, right? The food itself was fine. Nothing fancy, not great, and I think I'm being kind here. Rather than pick apart each issue lll just say, it was ok. Prices are definitely high given the mediocrity of the food. My sister brought me to this place to have dinner. You walk in and the place has linen on the tables - definitely not a normal quick Mexican restaurant vibe. When you walk in - you are quickly introduced to their dessert case - they looked so very delightful. Some members in the party were observing no desserts during Lent - so we didn't get to try any of them - but many looked to be house-made. We were quickly seated and I was pleasantly surprised that the menu had some authentic Spanish and Mexican dishes. There were the traditional - tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas - but we opted for some of the authentic looking dishes - like Masitas De Puerco and the Poc Chuc Yucateco. All very delicious and flavorful. I did notice that they had daily entree specials and my sister had gotten beef tacos for Taco Tuesday. One thing observed - portions were large - enough where i had leftovers the next day. The establishment is very kid friendly - we had 3 kids in tow and each all had their entree pick and drink. Jacky, Jacky, Jacky! 6 of us came in for dinner on Saturday night. The place was hopping. Jacky was our server, it was very obvious that she loves her job. She was very attentive but always paused at our table to check on us. She was helpful with suggestions and spice levels. My experience eating at Mariachi was underwhelming and disappointing to say the least. My girlfriend and I visited late on a Saturday night and were seated immediately by a nice wait staff member. We were promptly asked for drink orders, where we ordered a piña colada and a house margarita. The piña colada was fine, pretty average for $8. The house margarita was probably the worst tasting margarita i've had, i'm not sure if it's the mix they use, but it was dreadful to finish. For appetizers, we ordered the chili con queso. It tasted like a block of velveta cheese microwaved. It was $6-ish dollars and was a step below mediocre. Taco Bell nachos and cheese are exponentially better for $2. As for our entrees, we ordered a chicken and a combo fajita. For $20 fajitas, we expected way more. It was edible, but not enjoyable. Again, probably the worst fajita i've ever had at a mexican restaurant. The value for the quality of food was absolutely horrendous: For $80 (bill+tax+tip) we got a nasty cheese bowl, two small fajitas and a couple rail mixed cocktails. Given the quality of the restaurants in Frederick, nearly every place beats this on every facet. Some of my friends also go there with me and they like it as their favorite place in Frederick. For comparison, my favorite Mexican restaurant for many many years down in Gaithersburg Rockville area is uncle Julio's. But over the years they seem to of lost a little bit of their consistency, that is uncle Julio's, but mariachis is a close second, and, of course no Contest not driving 45 minutes. Went here on a Tuesday night for a date night with my wife. Looking at the exterior of the building and the number of cars in the parking lot I was pretty excited to be getting some decent Mexican. However, this place is the definition of "meh" or "not good enough". There were some good things but the bad vastly outweighed them to the point where we will never return. I'll expand on what we ordered. Drinks: Mojito - I ordered it and then was told that they didn't have mint. No big deal but I was looking forward to it. Pina Colada - $8 Not good but not bad. I didn't really taste any alcohol. Raspberry Daquiri - $9 My wife absolutely hated it. She drank a few sips and then was trying to force herself to drink the rest of it since it was so expensive. Appetizer: Tamales - $5. These were the absolute highlight of the meal. They were hot, moist and absolutely delicious. I've eaten some pretty bad tamales in my life and these resurrected the idea of eating them regularly again. Meals: Chiles Rellenos - $13. Served with rice and beans. The cheese stuffed chili was delicious. The steak stuffed one was not good. The steak was so overly salty that it was difficult eating. The batter was also falling off of them from the minute they were set down. Not good but not bad. Fajitas - $23. Steak, shrimp and chicken. My wife ended up eating less than half of it. The steak was super salty, the shrimp had no salt but a ridiculous amount of pepper and the chicken was dry as a board. Dessert: Sopapillas - $? - The ones they have in the display are puffy mounds of glorious fried dough. The ones we got were flat as a pancake and pretty unimpressive. The total on our bill including tip was $95. For that amount of money we should have been excitedly talking about how great the food was and how excited we were to come back. I would have enjoyed a meal at Taco Bell more and it would have cost $15. Don't waste your money on this place. It's not even close to worth the prices they charge. read more

The smells were enticing when we walked in the door and the food didn't disappoint. We were immediately greeted and seated when we entered. The staff was great, especially John our server. Also, the manager was excellent! He ran the place like a well oiled machine! The chips were perfect and warm, and the salsa was chunky and not too spicy. I had the fajita omelette with fruit and potatoes and it was delicious and was a very generous portion. My friend had the enchiladas with chicken and she said it was very good.
