The place is nothing to look at- it is small and inside a shopping plaza. We have been here a few times and service is quick, attentive, and friendly. We ordered a taco salad (chicken was shredded, flavorful, and juicy) and the taco platter (came with 2 tacos, beans and rice). What this place lacks in ambience is easily made up for in their food. I haven't had Mexican food in a while so this really hit the spot. They make their salsa fresh and it comes unlimited with hot crisp chips prior to your meal. I ordered the chicken flautas for appetizer and the chicken quesadilla and supreme fajita burrito (chicken, shrimp and steak) for the entrees. I was stuffed and had leftovers which was still so tasty the next day. It's a very small and understated space. But even though our server was the only one facing the customers, he was very attentive and checked in on our table several times during our meal. This was good experience and I would've given it five stars if they did something more with the decor. Good food and good service always deserves props. read more

First impression of this place was great! Admittedly, coming from Los Angeles, my experiences with Mexican food in Frederick so far have been just sort of meh, even at one of the places that was touted as being super authentic, so I didn't have high hopes that the place right down the street from our new house would be that good, but I was so pleasantly surprised! The owner makes some excellent food, and he was super attentive with the service. I had the chicken enchilada plate, which isn't my usual go-to (like ever), but pregnancy has me craving all sorts of things I don't usually get. Anyway, it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was super juicy and the sauce was perfect. I also really liked the beans--good consistency and flavor. My husband ordered the queso appetizer, and it was a creamy emulsified dip, not like a traditional queso fundido, but the flavor was great. I thought my husband was about to start eating it with a spoon if he hadn't been offered a refill of chips, it was that good, hah. The menu is extensive and so reasonably priced! My last review was of Chevy's (Tex Mex), and for me it has always been a 5 star place. But there's no Chevy's that is located around Frederick, so I've been on a hunt to find a suitable Mexican joint that's more local to me. And I think Poblano Grill is it (for now). I was actually surprised by some of the reviews. The place was clean, the staff was kind, and my food was awesome. Maybe it's just because I usually get tacos, which are pretty hard to screw up (here's looking at you, Cafe Bueno -__-), so I'm rarely disappointed. But the chicken in my tacos was spiced just right, the shells were perfectly cooked, and even the sides of beans and rice were good as well. When I left the restaurant, I was seriously thinking "Is there anything negative I can say about this place?" And I couldn't come up with anything. So it doesn't matter that this is just some generic American Mexican restaurant. They had no foul ups for me, so I can't give any less than a 5/5. read more

Chill little place. Clean, staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Taco al Carbon with one steak and one chicken. I always regret getting steak tacos because if the steak is not an awesome tender cut, or is cooked slightly too long, it's hard to get a good clean bite. In my case the 3" long strips were a bit over cooked so each bite was like having bit off more than I could chew. The chicken taco on the other hand more than made up for it!! Tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned! After eating the first half naked (no toppings), I added cheese and sour cream to the second half. Sorry other really good Mexican restaurant, but this chicken taco has become my new favorite. read more

Stopped in to have lunch since they offer veggie options. We both decided on the veggie fajitas. While the order was placed we feasted on chips and salsa Fresca. The chips were nice and warm and the salsa definitely tasted fresh. Our servers made sure we had plenty of salsa and brought out more chips....as if my waist line needed that. Our lunch came out and the veggies were excellent. They were not over cooked in oil like so many places that do veggie fajitas. The flavoring was spot on. The rice and lettuce were excellent as well. We asked for no sour cream since we are vegan. But it is an option for vegetarians. Now here is the reason for 4 stars and not five. There was no beans or avocado slices with the fajitas and only two tortillas. We were not given a choice between corn and flour tortillas. That could have been an oversight on our part but we were not asked. So I am not sure for some of you if they have a gluten free option. The price for the lunch version was very reasonable. With drinks, our lunch was less than $20 before tip. You can't beat that in the metro DC area. I would almost change it to a five star for that. Almost! read more

I've driven by this place hundreds of times but just never felt compelled to pop in. Now that I have, I can pretty much go back to our drive-on-by relationship. The food is mediocre and in need of some serious spices (or at least some salt, man). The cheese dip wasn't terrible and the chips seemed fresh...but that's really all I can say that's positive about the food. It seems pretty dirty in there with random weird smells abound. Not to mention the holes in the table cloths and chairs and just overall dinginess. I'm all for a dive but cleaning the tables with a sour rag is a no-no in any situation. There was little I liked about this eatery. I will itemize my observations. The place is pretty small, but to make things worse, they squeezed tables into spaces where there should be none. The doorway into the kitchen had shortened saloon-type doors that allowed you to partially see into the work space. The men's bathroom was just one small room without any cubicles, which is my favorite type. But when I went to lock the door, I wasn't sure that the door knob would lock. Thank goodness, I thought, the door has a slide to prevent anyone from opening the door. However, the lever was improperly installed and had no effect. I peed quickly. The man who seemed to manage the restaurant and had given us our menus and taken our drink order was also our waiter. For me, it kind of ruined things for me that he wasn't Latino. I began to wonder who (of what ethnicity) was devising the menu and cooking the food. We both ordered steak fajitas. I didn't like the way the steak was cooked. 99.99% of the restaurants produce strips of steak that are blackened to a certain degree. This results in a yummy flavor. Poblano Grill's steak looked like it had been boiled or steamed. No blackening at all. It had arrived in a fry pan, but it looked as though it had not been cooked in one. Last time here. This is my second try and again I'm disappointed. They are not Latino so maybe that's why the seasoning and cooking style is way off. The chips they bring to the table are very thin and not flavorful at all. They didn't make a huge effort to bring more out when we finished a small basket between 4 people. The salsa was okay, nothing special and definitely not restaurant made. The tap water was not good either. I live on base and don't drink the tap here and not at the store. Order a another beverage instead. My wife ordered Macho Nacho and it seems like it was made first and brought out last. They chips were soggy as hell! Guac added was $1.50 "yikes". I ordered the Luncheon Chimi which was a small chimichanga and it was beef. The meat was like sloppy joe meat and tasted nothing like Spanish food. The beans and rice were also gross. Have no idea how this place is still in business. My mother had taco salad and she liked it. My son had chicken quesadilla and he didn't like it which is normally his go-to when we're at a *Mexican Restaurant. I can't believe we've been sleeping on Poblanos for a year!! We have our "go-to" Mexican spot in town but decided to try somewhere new tonight via GrubHub. Our order was perfect-including special requests and instructions. Meals were packed thoughtfully so that dishes were as fresh as possible. Loved the individual bags of chips and salsa with each meal!!! First of all, the kids meals are super reasonably priced. $2.95-3.95! It's silly to pay more than that because more than likely the kids are going to take three bites and wander off for a bit and return begging for snacks while their dinner is still hot. We got one quesadilla with fries and one hot dog with fries-both were as expected. My MIL ordered her go-to: taco salad. It was a large portion, looked fresh, and she said it tasted great. (She didn't offer me a bite and she all but licked the container so I have to trust her). My son got three hard tacos, just beef and cheese. The taco shells were a bit yucky from beef grease but that's just extra flavor, right?! He tore them apart and loved the rice (because "the onions and peppers were big enough to pick out!") My husband and I shared the flautas (my favorite Mexican app.-they were great!); two enchiladas-both had tons of flavor and delicious sauce; queso-yummo; and Carne Asada (ugh I was too full to try it. While there are more authentic places for Latin food in Frederick, this one is considerably more gringo-friendly and far more predictable. The small, clean dining room is pleasantly decorated and colorful. Service is very polite and always prompt. And the food is well above average, thanks in no small part to excellent sauces and what appear to be very fresh ingredients. The guacamole is top notch ... and I rarely order anything except the Pollo Poblano, a signature dish that really is deserving of bearing the restaurant's name. BTW, they also have a full bar with a whole slew of maragritas and a good selection of Mexican cerveza. It really helps that this place is in my neighborhood, but it is also worth seeking out if you live in Frederick and are looking for high-quality, Mexican-American fare. I went here for lunch and thought it was just ok...nothing I would go out of my way for. I ordered the veggie fajitas...veggies were kind of overcooked and seasoning was subpar. Chips and salsa were not as good as what I'd buy at the grocery store. The service was quick, which would make it a good lunch choice if you work nearby. The waiter was friendly and efficient. Restaurant is small, but colorful and upbeat. The bar looked extensive. I think for a fast lunch, Fajita Grande is the better choice--and much cheaper. Visited this place on August 14, 2021. We ordered 2 Grill Combos and 1 Burrito Gordo. Staff were nice however one of the grill combos had chicken that tasted like it was going bad and smelled like it was going bad as well. One of the shrimps in the combos was the same way, smelled bad. The other grilled combo steak was tough. The chips that were included were stale. Normally love their food and friendly service. Ordered through Grub Hub, they obviously over committed for our order at 5:58 pm made our Grub Hub driver wait over an hour and a half for the order. All in all after the original time commitment, we waited over 2.5 hours for a meal. I sat and watched as our poor Grub Hub driver was made to wait 1.5 hours while she could have been earning money making more deliveries on this very busy food night. Steak was tough as nails, which is NOT the norm for this otherwise excellent eating place. They were caught off guard, unprepared for the flood of orders on this Cinco de Mayo which happened to also fall on a Taco Tuesday which made Mexican eateries very, very popular tonight. Grub Hub not at fault, their driver not at fault. Poblano, next time you get more orders than you can handle, stop taking orders. This is a hidden gem/hole in the wall type of place that a co-worker introduced me to a while ago and I have loved it ever since. By far the best value of any Mexican restaurant in the area. My husband and I can easily get dinner for 2, with apps and a beer each, for $25-30. Or if we are just getting take out, we each order a burrito or chimi and it comes out to less than $20, and they nicely package your dinner with chips and salsa and beans. The food is good and fresh. We love this place. Whenever we go, it's never crowded, although I'm told during the week at lunchtime it's packed- all the Ft. Detrick employees go there since it's right outside the gate. The food is great, comes out fast, and is reasonably priced. The ambiance is less than appealing, (We think it's kind of funny, but EVERY TIME we go there the same Mexican song is playing over and over and over) but if you're looking for a good Mexican meal, overlook that and dive in.
