I've driven past this unassuming place many times...when I stopped in today, I was pleasantly surprised! Not only was the staff super friendly and accommodating--the food was fantastic! This is authentic Mexican food. Some of the best in the area. Sadly as of late the prices have went up substantially. We used to go every week because they offered great food at an affordable price. That's no longer the case. Prepare to spend $50 for 2 if you go there now. The staff I used to be fast and friendly but the last visit we had was not typical. There was plenty of staff but they were more focused on what appeared to be friends that were outside rather than what was going on inside. I was very disappointed. Sort by most recent first. That is my advice for yelp and you may be able to avoid the trap we just fell in to. At one point this place used to be very good apparently. Based on current reviews something has obviously happened. The server was nice and pleasant and the ability to sit outside is nice. However, our kiddos chicken fingers and fries were OBVIOUSLY undercooked. The chicken tacos were average at best and light on the meat if nothing else. The steak burrito meat literally looked like chopped steakums not an actual cut of steak. We haven't been this disappointed in a long time. Cafe bueno was no bueno. We tried Café Bueno last night because we had wanted to try it for a long time. I have to say that I was not overly impressed. The burrito I had was decent although the steak was of average cut. The shrimp inside the burrito were great. It was tasty so I will give them that, although it would be nice to have some sour cream for the top of the burrito like I get at other places. Additionally, the refried beans were a little thin. Not watery per se, but just kind of runny. The chips were fresh, although the one thing I really didn't like was that we had to pay for them and the salsa, which was bland. Virtually all other Mexican places bring you chips and salsa to start your meal. And honestly, for what I got, I think it was kind of pricy. I think there are much better options out there in the Frederick area for Mexican food. I'm not really sure what all the hype was for this place. read more

I got the Al-pastor tacos which were very flavorful and delicious. The waitresses were very nice too and the salsas were great. However, their pricing is kinda odd. They charge over $6 for the spicy salsa and there's no free chips and salsa on the house before you order (like there is at basically every other sit down Mexican restaurant). And if you tell them you want the hot salsa with the chips, don't be surprised when they do not provide the standard salsa that comes with the chips because they want to charge you extra for each salsa. They also don't give you a plastic bag when you want to take food to go so you have to carry all the boxes/containers separately. This is my go-to for lunch about once a month. The staff is always very friendly and they offer great service. The location itself doesn't have a ton of parking available but there is a parking lot behind it that is shared with other businesses. The inside is small and appears very clean and they also offer a large, covered outdoor seating area. The chips and salsa aren't complimentary as many others in the area are so you'll have to order them ($4.99). The food itself is reasonably price with good portions. Aside from their regular menu, they offer lunch specials as well. I ordered the Fajitas Texacana which comes with corn or flour tortillas, Guacamole, Rice, and Beans. They also bring out three different salsas for your entree which all vary on the spiciness. Recently, they are selling house made corn tortillas to go for about $6 which is a great deal. My wife and I tried Café Bueno for lunch today. This restaurant did not serve complementary salsa and tortilla chips... but with the economic difficulties all restaurants are facing I guess I understand why most Mexican restaurants do not offer complementary chips and salsa anymore. There was a luncheon menu, but it did not include fajitas. There were no luncheon portion size fajitas available. So we ordered the normal steak and shrimp fajita portion which is quite large and split it. The fajitas were very flavorful and tasty, as were the refried beans, Mexican rice, and guacamole. The "fixing" plate did not include shredded cheese, Pico de Gala, nor salsa..... when I inquired about the salsa, they did bring a small container of salsa. It was nice having the menus right at each table and not having to wait for somebody to bring them. Service was good, but not outstanding. Our waitress refilled my diet cola with iced tea (my wife's choice of drink) but it was an honest error and she apologized for it. The venue is attractive with a nice, Mexican decor. Two unisex bathrooms are clean and neat. Cost of the fajitas and one soft drink, and one ice tea, including tax was $25 and I added a $4 gratuity. Splitting the full-size fajita portion was a good choice for us because we ended up eating everything and not having to take anything home. I would have awarded five stars, if the meal had included complementary chips and salsa, as well as shredded cheese and pico de gala on the fajita fixings plate. All in all, it was a very tasty and satisfying lunch... We will dine there again when we are in Frederick. I can recommend this restaurant..... try it , I think you'll like it. read more

Cafe Bueno is an awesome find here in Frederick and is a great lunch spot if you work nearby. This is a go-to at least once a month if you want some decent Mexican food. The food is good but it's not "write home about it". Most Mexican restaurants serve complimentary chips and salsa so if you crave those bad boys like I do anytime you eat mexican, you'll have to pay $4.99. I typically get a burrito for lunch but decided on their Chimichanga lunch special and it wasn't good or bad. It was crunchy and completely stuffed but a little watery inside, but the flavor was there. There is enough parking spaces to fit the amount of people that can fit inside this smaller restaurant but they do have outdoor seating which is nice in the warmer months. However, you do have to deal with the noise from East Street traffic since it's right there. The service is pretty good as well, but I would not count on anyone coming to check on you after you get your food. You typically have to stop someone and ask for a refill, although it depends on which waitstaff is there that day. All in all, I would recommend this place to someone! read more

Both me and my partner are Hispanic, so we were looking for an authentic Mexican place. Cafe Bueno is Mex-American, the clientele is more American so the plates end up being Americanized. No real variety between foods: quesadillas, burritos, nachos, tacos, very simple stuff. We ordered a Torta Cubana for 11.99 and enchiladas for around the same price. We added rice and beans to the plate. The torta cubana had some flavor, the meat was a tad bit chewy but overall it wasn't bad. It was packed so for the price I find it a good deal. The cheese enchiladas were disappointing, no real flavor it was just store bought melted cheese and chewy tortilla. Personally, I wouldn't come back here. I felt like it wasn't authentic at all, but I wouldn't knock it until you try it read more

I want to start with that I usually love eating at Cafe Bueno. Last night was not the same experience at all. I ordered the steak enchiladas and while the steak part was good, the diced radishes were not an addition I appreciated. I actually looked on the menu to see if it was listed as part of the ingredients. So I took the other two home with me and took the steak out of the first one this morning to put on a salad and left those radishes or whatever they were go to the garbage. This used to be our go-to Mexican restaurant in Downtown Frederick but after our most recent meal, it no longer will be. I don't know what changed at the restaurant but our meals were horrible. Watery nachos for appetizers: the refried beans were more like bean soup, making our nacho chips soft within minutes. The jalapeños looked like they came straight out of jar and overall just not enjoyable. My Al pastor taco dish wasn't anything like what Al pastor should be: the pork was too spicy with weird red coloring added. Again, not authentic and not enjoyable. Lastly, the house margaritas were too syrupy sweet and not well made. Like I mentioned earlier, it's a big disappointment for us. Please go back to how you used to make your food which was great. We decided to try a new Mexican restaurant as we were traveling through Frederick, Maryland. I looked up reviews and Cafe Bueno had a high rating. We sat down ten minutes before the lunch specials were over. My husband had the chicken California burrito, I had the regular chicken burrito, and my mom had the taco salad. All our meals were very tasty. They do not have free chips and salsa like most Mexican restaurants, but we didn't mind because our entrees were filling. Service was attentive and we were seated in a nice booth in a back corner. Menu seemed a bit limited with no combination platters but huge selection of burritos. Very very unhappy they charge for chips and salsa. Rip off red flag. Wanted cheese enchiladas but not on the menu and waitress said had to order 3 of the same, which seemed restrictive for no reason. Ordered beef which came with tasteless rice and mediocre refried beans. Probably good the servings were not generous. No sour cream and maybe a tablespoon of salsa on the side. The enchiladas were mainly greasy bits of low quality steak wrapped in a smallish tortilla. 3 of them. Husband ordered the al pasture burrito which was large. Always wanted to try this restaurant for a long time and finally went. There was no chips and salsa on the table but that was Ok just strange. The waitress brought us two beers quickly however when I asked for water she just asked what our order was. My parter only wanted 2 different tacos but we were told it only comes in an order of 3 and they had to be the same. So we got 2 orders of what he wanted and I'd take a plate and swap some tacos. The waitress asked if we wanted rice and beans and we said sure. We were never told of an up charge of $1.50 each. Even when I added an order of guacamole it didn't come with chips. What they have against tortilla chips I have no idea. Would not recommend. The food was ok I guess you're paying extra for the ambiance. read more

This is one of our family favorite Latin restaurants in the Frederick area. Currently due to COVID, they only offer outdoor dining and take out. But the outdoor seating is covered and the tables are six feet apart or more. As we were seated, they offered the menu to be looked at online through your phones. During this visit we ordered the guacamole and chips as an appetizer-the chips are made fresh! We usually enjoy coming on the weekends since Cafe Bueno offers the Suadero beef burritos. So so yummy! We love adding this to our list of places to visit and it's definitely a local gem. read more

This is one of the best Mexican Restaurants I have ever been. The service, food, and decor are all phenomenal! The way they cook their meat is amazing, they are so juicy and flavorful. We ordered the chicken quesadillas, chicken and chorizo tacos (Mexican Style), and Taxeno (mixed meat fajitas). All three dishes were great, and I highly recommend anything with chicken. I would all three dishes again. For dessert we had the fried ice cream which was the weakest dish and mainly due to the batter was chewy instead of crunchy like others I have had. This Mexican restaurant has grown on me over time. I've probably been here 6 times now just because I have a kid at the dance studio and what's better than a meal and drink while waiting? The margaritas are really potent and taste great. They have Modelo Negro ON TAP (bonus points). I went off menu this week and got one of the specials which was the chicken mole enchiladas and OMG wow they were incredible tasting. I highly recommend their mole line of food. I'm really impressed by the specials so I'm going to stick to them for the future. I'm sorry I didn't snap a pic, but the portions are huge. Cafe bueno was no bueno. I had high hopes for this place after hearing about their burritos. Overall the service was meh but if you're not ordering a burrito don't bother. I ordered a basic margarita which is pretty standard at Mexican restaurants. It came straight out the bottle and was so lukewarm. It wasn't worth the calories so definitely don't waste your time ordering from their bar. we also got an order of queso which came with maybe 15 chips and when we asked for more we got charged extra. Again the queso tasted heated up and straight out of a bottle. The chicken burrito was the only saving grace of the meal and is the only reason Im giving 3 stars instead of 2. It was a pretty disappointing experience given the seemingly good yelp reviews. This place just needs to devote a little extra time to the food they serve and they could be a lot better. Cafe no Bueno.... If you want ordinary tac o bell type food this is the place for you. I had a pork burrito with Salsa Verde. The pork was minced and the salsa Verde was missing in action. My wife had shrimp tostadas with rice and beans nothing special about them but the price, $17 for a tiny pittance of shrimp. The burrito was $14 with rice and beans. Meat portion is a little bit small. They fill up the taco salad bowl up with a lot of lettuce. The meat flavor (fajitas) is good. The cheese that they use is not the traditional cheese that goes on Mexican. What they used was regular salad mix cheese. That really brought the flavor down. Table ordered chips and queso and they give you a really small portion, even the guac. The benches are really nice and the place is small. For a Thursday night, service was adequate. read more
