I've been getting my curly hair cut by Mary Lou for several years. My hair has been through texture changes and thinning and she never fails to make it look its best. I've gone to many salons, some very expensive, for a dry curly cut and walked out disappointed. I've never felt that way after a cut with Mary Lou. She seems to be really intuitive with hair, listens to all my concerns and doesn't push anything. Okay, not a high-end salon; quite overheated on a July, hot-humid day; but since moving to Y.H.'s over seven years ago, and trying many of the 'local stylists' (read: stupid - expensive) in town, with horrible results, I hate the idea of having to continue searching for a good haircut; and as long as Plaza Salon offers value for services, I'm totally in! 'Cynthia', the stylist I happily stumbled upon, has now given me the two best haircuts I've had in years! She works six days a week, and I doubt that any other stylists push themselves so hard to do their jobs! Cynthia really seems to know her craft, and I feel confident about putting my hair in her exceedingly professional hands. Nothing any nobody's perfect, but I endorse and applaud Plaza Salon and Cynthia! This salon needs a lot of attention to make it acceptable in many ways, but I'm willing to put up with the discomfort, to get a great haircut from Cynthia! I HOPE THAT PLAZA SALON HEARS THAT THEY REALLY NEED TO RENOVATE, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, GIVE IT A THOROUGH CLEANING!! I understand that the JV mall is severely lacking in business these days, however the salon's owner simply must do something to retain customers. I have been going to Plaza Salon for years. Lori cuts and colors my hair, love the way my hair looks. I have used other stylist when Lori is not there, and have never had a bad haircut. Walk-in's are welcomed but I usually make an appointment. They sell a large selection of great hair products at good prices. I am shocked by my experience in this hair salon. As a first-time customer, I decided to give this place a go when I visited this mall. However, I was abosolutely stunned by the Asian hairdresser in this salon: she is a straight up RACIST. She just non-stopped disrepecting other workers and other races...I guess she considered herself as model minority and felt it's ok to make fun of other minorities. I could not even believe what I heard. Others workers seemed to be friendly and nice people. If you have to come to her, AVOID her at all costs. Her trashy words will ruin your day. read more

I use to go to Rae & she was good for the price range. She hasn't worked there in quite some time, so I figured I go to someone new there in quite a rush to do a new look, I made an appt with Jan. The only worse experience I've had with results from a hair salon was about 10 years ago. Full head highlights ended in two different colors on one strand!!! So top of my head is 1 color & the bottom is another. Haha!! How do you even do that terrible!!! Then haircut went from 1.5-2" to about 6". Not an exaggeration folks. Cut quality was TERRIBLE. Ends were chopped rather than slightly layered. So the bottom looked bushy. I asked her to fix. I came home & realized I've never had more damaged hair in my life. I couldn't blow dry my ends out to be straight because they were so damaged & little fuzzy curly. Days later, my hair continues to break. I used a conditioner you get when you buy color in a box from Walgreens & saw a dramatic improvement. She couldn't have used a treatment?!!! I know hair gets a little damaged after color, but not like this!!!! Now I know, it's a salon in a mall. I should've known. But the late hours & Rae made it good!!! I still have nightmares about this place. I've been a costumer here on and off since I was a young teenager, then I decided to work for them for about 4-5 months before I just couldn't do it anymore. If you miss middle school drama this is the place for you. The majority of the hairdressers don't even like eachother, making it quite an uncomfortable experience. The two women who run this place are not the nicest and they often say terrible things about their customers once they leave. It's quite over priced for the service you receive as well. I've never been impressed with any of the hair dressers work. None of them truly want to be there and they make it KNOWN. The only nice lady is an older, outwardly racist, Asian women. She's the only person who ever made me, and a lot of other customers feel welcome despite her racist remarks. Most of those remarks are directed towards other co workers as well. Not a friendly place, certainly not a clean place. I highly recommend taking your business somewhere else. read more

Popped in while shopping to get a haircut. I wanted 2 inches cut off my hair. they told me $25-30 which included wash and blowout. First of all the girl who shampooed my hair barely touched my head! I usually enjoy the shampoo part as most places will massage the shampoo and conditioner into your scalp. not here! The lady who cut my hair was very nice and I told her I only wanted 2 inches cut off my hair which is exactly what she did even though she recommended more. She said she had been a hairdresser for 40 years so I thought she would know what she was doing with a hairdryer! nope. Her technique was just awful, I didn't know what the heck she was doing, My hair was a frizzy mess, she actually said 'Im going to leave it a little moist' huh??? Then she saw my face and dried it fully and it was still frizzy and not smooth at all. And when I went to pay they charged $35! If I had just gone for a blow out because I was going out that night I would have complained but I mainly went for a haircut which she did an ok job of. I wouldn't go here again. My experience was absolutely TERRIBLE. I asked for light brown with blonde highlights, I'm a medium brown. And they dyed my hair BLACK. This place is horrible. The manager is VERY rude and They are SUPER UNPROFEESSIONAL. All the staff were arguing in front of all the customers, I had an appointment with a specific person and the receptionist sent me to someone else who had no idea what she was doing. They got bleach IN MY EYE. And then let me leave with my hair SOAKEN WET, because apprarently drying my hair would cost me more. This place DOES NOT KNOW what full service is and I would never recommend anyone goes here. As I was walking in the place I saw a hairdresser being extremely rude and confrontational with a customer. Another woman, who I believe was the receptionist, said something rude about me loud enough for other employees and customers to hear. If you go plaza salon DO NOT go to Cindy! I have been going there for years now and everytime i go i don't ask for anyone specific everyone does a great job i always leave happy! This past recent time i got Cindy and she did the complete opposite on what i wanted! I just wanted a simple trim , take off the dead ends . Instead of her paying attention to what she was doing with my hair she was looking around at other stylists and other clients and ended up chopping off my hair . I was very upset at the end results! Also the entire time i was getting my hair done she was talking down about her co workers and saying how i shouldn't go to certain people in the salon and that they will do a terrible job! Not for nothing but i would totally disagree with her i think everyone there is wonderful i haven't had a bad experience there until now! I'm very shocked at the fact that the owner of the salon would even allow that to happen! I would give the salon a 4 rating and Cindy a 0 . Horrible place. The hair cut was poorly done. I was very disappointed with what was left of my hair. I still kept calm and very politely asked the lady cutting my hair to help fix it. The manager stepped in and rudely said that my hair looked fine. I told her that it is not even closely fine as I walked in with a decent set of hair on my head and all I had asked for is a slight trim. And the hair cut lady shaved off way too much hair and I now have no ability to part my hair. The manager then commanded Rosemary to stop right away and not even try helping fix the situation. I had to walk out looking worse than I could. I still left 25% tip what I usually do with all my hair cuts. The damage is already done. I have important meetings all week and would end up living with a horrible hair cut. While everyone has their own style and preferences and may not experience what I did, one thing is for sure - the rudeness of the manager, and despite the ugly haircut, forcefully insisting that it looks fine and offer no help, would not be appreciated by anyone. My humblest suggestion - find another place if you can. Anyone else would provide better service!!! read more
