On the past I have purchased shoes here, however today I showed up planning on buying a new pair but I guess I came to late? The agent told me it was to late and they were closing. That would be fine but closing at 4pm whose idea was that? Also if your a neighborhood store you should at least let the last customer continue with their purchase. When shopping in Arcata this is a go to spot! It's a cute little shop about a block away from the square. The staff are all friendly and helpful. They have all the great brands dansko, earth, naot, jafa, l'artisan, uggs in the most current and trendy styles. They also turn over their shoes frequently and have an excellent sale selection!!! I was in need of new shoes while traveling (I'm from Germany), as my old ones started to fall apart. I walked into Plaza Shoe Shop and was served remarkably well. The lady who helped me was incredibly friendly, spent almost an hour's time with me looking for the "right" pair of shoes, and when it looked like there's no perfect match for me (I'm a size 12 1/2) she even sent me out to look at other shoe stores and a thrift store. I ended up buying a pair she found in the last minute, the cheapest of the lot and the perfect choice. They're pricey but I'd shop there again for the incredibly friendly, pressure-free service. Note: they require ID when you pay by credit card, so make sure you have some on you. No idea whether that's customary for smaller businesses but it was the first time it happened to me in the US. read more

I went to this shop for years, before the current owner ran it. I think he took over from his father. I went in one time and was treated with a lack of respect by the owner, and called a liar for a simple claim I made about how long I'd been a customer. I've never been back, and take all my shoe work to Eureka (Grundmans) and buy shoes elsewhere. read more

Okay so they have a real cobbler... And that makes it okay to charge a lot more money I guess. They carry a selection of very high quality shoes but they ask top dollar. They do carry shoe care products and that is the reason I go here, but again you pay top dollar. I figure they cater to the University professor and local attorneys that can afford the prices. There is another place to buy shoes and they have real podiatrist on staff, Strehl's in Fortuna. It's worth the drive and prices are more reasonable. read more

Hi, my name is the Plaza Shoe Shop, not because I fix shoes, but because I like to WALK ALL OVER CUSTOMERS! I know we're the only cobbler in the greater Humboldt County Area with regular business hours and I like to stomp all over my customers for it. Not only do I fix stiletto heels, I like to stab my customers in the back with them. I like to charge an exorbitant amount to put on plastic heel tips and then I jab my customers a hefty $28 price tag. As a special bonus, I make customers wait a marathon amount of time- over 1 month! Not only to I stab you in the back, but I might as well kick you in the face. I'm rude to customers and pretend that we're SUUUPER busy. I repeatedly tell all of you lowly two footed creatures that, "if you don't wanna wait, you're out of luck!" Well, not to worry fellow shoe wearers- there is solace. Run and mail your shoes to a cobbler out of town. It will be cheaper (get the $5 "if it fits it ships" mail bag each way, and pay for a $10 for a repair). Another cobbler will also be able to repair your shoes and have them back to you within the week and without the attitude. Sad, but true. I read the reviews and considered myself warned. Since I did not heed my fellow yelper's warnings, I will suffer some consequences. I needed my boots repaired. I walked in there determined to make these people like me. The owner was so rude to me. I could not believe how rude these people were. The woman inspected my boot and rolled her eyes at me. She took my boot to the cobbler, just behind the counter and they both laughed so loud at me while pointing. Granted, I did grind my heel down a considerable amount, but come on...doesn't everyone know better than to point and laugh at someone???Especially when they are a brand new customer and just asking about a repair? I have never done this shoe repair thing before, what a terrible way to experience something new. After they were through laughing at me, I was lectured by the cobbler about how soles are like tires...get them in before they become a problem...he repeated this to me 5 times. I read a couple reviews on here that their return policy is poor. When I asked questions, they were met with resistance, rude looks and suspicion. I haven't received my shoes back yet. If they do a good job, I may raise them a star or more...but I have to say, their customer service is TERRORABLE. It will take them 2 weeks to fix my shoes, it will cost 38.00. Took them over a month to fix my shoes and they broke within an hour of me wearing them. Super rude staff when I dropped off and picked up the shoes too. Aaaand they called me a few days after i was originally supposed to pick them up to tell me it would be extra to fix! Shady business practices. I would take my shoes to Eureka or mail them in to a better company elsewhere. They're also often closed and their employees are constantly out of town. Anyways, I don't think it should take a month and $25 bucks to repair a sole that's going to break in an hour. Boooo plaza shoe. read more

I was in Plaza shoe shop today for the very first time I felt very comfortable and the sales reps were very attentive the whole time and patience with me they even made me custom shoe laces which I've never seen before. Reading the prior reviews of this store I was a little skeptical going in but I was pleasantly surprised as to how good of an experience was. I will definitely be back! read more

Super disappointed in the service I received. Took 2 and a half weeks for them to simply glue the soles of my leather sneakers...when I got them back they weren't even repaired!!! I had to leave my shoes again overnight. And now just a few months later the soles are totally unglued again. read more

I used to love the Plaza Shoe store - when they were on the plaza. They were friendly and helpful. I bought many pair of shoes there and had my Bitkenstocks re-soled. Last pair of Birks I bought from them (at their current location) had a weird flaw with the finish and I brought them back and the staff accused me of causing the problem. Maybe i had spilled something on them, they said. I had worn the shoes for about a week. It took much painful interaction to get satisfaction for expensive shoes. I have never been back. One can buy the same brands elsewhere and get repairs on-line. read more

This is a wonderful little shoe store--they have knowledgeable, friendly sales people, and they carry only high-quality products. Clean and pleasant interior, and they also have the really great perk of a free boot-oiling station where you can come in to oil up anything you bought there. They also used to have a great cobbler who, at least at one point, could re-sole anything they sold. Sadly (for the rest of us), he retired recently, and they no longer do on-site repair. They can mail a pair of shoes back to the manufacturer to re-sole, but that's all. read more

Wow. The negative and sarcastic reviews really surprise me. I've been taking my shoes to Plaza Shoe Shop for years and have always had really, really good service. My foot is hard to fit and they will stretch and re-stretch and stretch again without extra charge to make sure my feet are truly comfortable. They have re-soled my favorite shoes and sandals multiple times giving me a lot of use from each pair. It is true, you do have to wait, but that's because a lot of people bring their shoes here so the shoes queue up. I really like their selection of well made fashion shoes and fun socks, too. I Love Plaza Shoes!! Yes their brands cost a little more, because their worth it! I don't buy cheap shoes, and was thrilled to find such a great selection of great quality shoes! I would give you 5 stars, but I too, feel you should extend the length of your return policy. To be fair I spent over $1000.00 in your store since I found you... I will say the 1 time I needed to return, I was only offered an exchange because of your policy... I do love your store very much and will return! I feel all the people that work here are exceptionally friendly and helpful! Being the shoe junkie that I am, I shop Zappos VIP, alot, and I will say that this store has alot of styles I can't find other places..including Zappos! Buy. Local. Anyway. Right? When I can buy shoes for significantly less expensive online I go to a brick and mortar shoe store for customer service. Some of the employees are condescending and seem put out if you ask for help. In 1989 after I cut the end of my foot off with my mother's lawnmover, the owners of Plaza Shoe Shop made me a custom-made pair of heavy-duty shoes that I have been wearing ever since. I have become personal friends with the Plaza Shoe Shop people who have been very good to me and my feet. I have had them resole those old shoes 3 times now and I had them make me a second pair that I only wear on special occasions. Over the past 22 years, I have received only concerned, polite, competent, and friendly service from these good people. It is unfortunate that more of their numerous satisfied and loyal customers do not take the time to express their appreciation; but, that is typical - complaints are much more commonly expressed than is satisfaction. read more

Bought some Wescos here because they were cheapest around. Soles fell apart within a year. Not sure if they get the boots so cheap because they are faulty. It could be my walking too. Either way, I took them in to get looked at, was told the repair man would give me a call in a day. Over a week, never got a call. Went back in and got my boots back and just sent them in to Wescos as they do a resole for cheaper than PSS including shipping and actually do what they say. They also sewed the new soles with kevlar and screwed them in for free. PSS didn't even call them on my behalf to try and get me a deal. Don't bring boots to get repaired here. Thought since I bought them here they'd hook me up...Don't count on it. They won't stand by the products they sell. Would've gone to Grundmans but he is booked for months. read more

I bought my daughter a gift certificate with cash in December 2016 for her birthday because the store no longer carried Bogs boots. They said that she could come in and place an order for the Bogs. She ordered the mid calf boots and the wrong boots were received. We live 45 miles from this store so it isn't as if we can come daily. I brought the incorrectly ordered boots and was told that because they were purchased with a gift certificate that I could not receive a refund. They did not provide the correct boot, they would not refund the purchase amount. Do not shop here. There are other stores in the area that will not frustrate their customers. read more

The owner was very rude to my aged mother who had a pair of unworn shoes she wanted to take back after talking to the salesgirl who said that might be a possibility. The sales girl should have known the SEVEN DAY return policy and told my mother that was not a possibility, so that when my mother tried to return the shoes, she would not have had a very ugly confrontation by the owner who was very rude. Don't shop here, there are better places to spend your money locally, with longer return policies for unused merchandise and with nicer salespeople and owners. read more

I first viewed the reviews here and wasn't sure what the service would be like. However I noticed that the reviews were old, with the newest being from 2014. Also I know that people who receive bad service freely share that experience, while those who receive good service seldom do. The one good review got it right - this is a very good store. I was greeted immediately on entering along with a friendly smile. Shoes here may be pricey for some, but judging by the brands carried, I would say prices are in line with other stores offering the same. It may be that the bad reviews have some merit, but not in my book. read more

I have had several pairs of my Frye boots repaired by the Cobbler at the Plaza Shoe shop, and had them put rubber soles over the leather soles they had. I also have had my Husband's vintage boots repaired there. It is a bit costly, but the work is done very well. I have been told long waiting times, but then was happily surprised when they were finished in half the time. The quality of work is great. read more
