Service in the pro shop. It's December!!! Using prepaid golf cards from last year. Must use by 12/31 or it is lost. I had two left for myself and my son to play. Pro shop guy said I only could use one and was adamant about it. Did not offer an exception or a viable alternative. You already have my money!!! Put yourself in the customers shoes. At South Riding they take as many as you have, if you want. Hard advice, skip the pre paid annual card and the hassle that follows OR just skip PV and go to South Riding for greener pastures. I'm sure one greens fee is not going to put this place out business. Get it together man. read more

Bad place, bad staff. Course is always in bad shape, especially for the prices always being around $100. Went to use the range one time since there's a grass range, they didn't tell me beforehand that it was mats only. Before I put my experience today, I think the main thing that people need to know about this course is how easy it is to lose your ball. There is no first cut, second cut, etc. There is the fairway, and then gone. If you're off the fairway, your ball is gone. Just know that. However, this review isn't about the course, it's about my experience with the staff on a range day. I came out to PVGC today to get some range time in. As I was walking up, I saw that there was a cart staged for the wash bay. As I've always been allowed to take a cart staged for wash to the driving range, I looked inside the wash bay(from outside the wash bay) to see if anybody was working that I could clear it with. As I'm looking in the second bay, I hear somebody yell from behind me, "Hey, what you want? What you looking for?". Based on the tone, I think somebody is clearly having a bad day. I turn around and let this guy know that I'm looking for who is working the wash bay, as I want to take this cart to the driving range. His response, "You have tee time?". I tell him I don't, I'm just here to use the range. "No, you can't use cart. Cart only for tee time". I explain to him that I don't think he's the one that makes that call, as I've always been allowed to take a cart to the range when one is staged for wash, so either you're wrong or everybody else has been wrong. "They are wrong, I am right. Carts only for tee time." At this point, I can see this guy clearly shouldn't be talking to customers and is just looking to argue so I walk away to let the GM know that I'll be leaving and why. I go inside and ask the guy at the counter who's in charge. He lets me know that he is for now, but that the head pro is outside and would I like to speak with him. I decline, and just let him know what just happened and to pass it on. Complete professional. Took no position on it at all, just said he would pass it on and apologized for "that". I think his exact words were, "Yeah, I'll pass it along. Sorry about that." So I leave the pro shop and, I kid you not, the guy on the cart is parked and waiting for me and as soon as I walk out the door he shouts from almost the wash bay, "So, am I right? Hey, am I right?" I swear, he's like a six year old. I told him I have no idea because my business in the pro shop wasn't about carts and driving ranges, but about how one member of the staff doesn't know how to speak to customers and shouldn't be talking to the customers. Groundskeeper, cook, sure, but not interacting with customers. He then drives his cart up to the starter and yells, "I didn't do anything! I didn't do sh!t!" How the starter is involved in any way whatsoever, I will never know. I looked over at the commotion as I was walking back to my car, but the starter just looked at me normally as I passed, so I have no idea what his involvement could possibly have been. I would have only talked to him if I was asking for a cart from the front, which I'm fairly certain can't be used to go to the driving range. I don't know for sure, that's pure speculation on my part. Reviews: Driving range: No idea. Never made it there. Staff member on golf cart: F. If you have read any reviews of the course, they are fairly accurrate about the condition of the course. Granted we had short term heavy rain, but this course doesnt drain well. Aside from the drainage problem, they have a pretty close to 6 or 7 deplorable tee boxes. I specifically mean that the grass is TORE UP or non existent. If there is grass on these boxes, its weed crab grass in patches. The other bad boxes are covered in seed sand. So here is where I am going with this. I got an $88 online tee time. I live in Fairfax. I habe the choice of about 10 courses within 30 min of me. How about some good customer service and say something like, the course has a lot of water and we need to keep the carts on the path at all times. The tee boxes arent in great shape, but we are going to give you 15 bucks off today... Would $75 be bad to the course? If no one is on the course, nothing is made. If someone is on there and doesnt feel like the got ripped off they may come back. The course with minimal work could be an excellent course. Right now its a place I would go to if they had a great deal at the time I wanted to play, maybe. read more

I played at this course on November 5th 22. This charged $94 for a round. The greens, fairway and tee baxes were in bad conditions. There was not ball washers and drink cart on the course. It was not worth $94 . I would never going to play there again. read more

The course that takes 3 steps forward and 10 steps backwards. PV is known to do "upgrades to their course" and then the overall quality of the course goes downhill fast almost simultaneously. One year they upgraded their bunkers and driving range which then resulted in laughable fairways and tee boxes. This year they upgraded their golf carts and cart path. Immediately following, their tee boxes, fairways, and greens made the world worst county course look like pebble beach. For how much this course charges the owners should be thrown in jail. This place is a laughing stock. read more

I play here quite often. I always get the Players Pass which is a card that enables you to use the range anytime, discounted golf, discounts at the shop, and free rounds of golf. If you buy early, you get 5 rounds and 4 if you wait. You also get reciprocal privileges at the sister course, South Riding. The course is set up links style. It is very open so if it's windy, you'll have to adjust. You can still lose golf balls all over the place. One of the benefits of playing here is the GPS equipped carts, which are included in your greens fees. Like most courses, if you plan to play later in the day, plan for the backup you'll encounter. It can take up to 3 hours to finish 9 holes on busy weekends. On weekdays, make sure there isn't a tournament or company outing before you try and play. They tend to book a lot of outings. read more

Completely garbage course and way too overpriced. Would not recommend. Only go here if you like playing golf at a subpar course.

Decided to play this course because the others we wanted to play were going through aeration. We would have been better off playing recently aerated courses instead of this one. Conditions were the worst I've seen in at least 10 years. Tee boxes were either dirt or crab grass. Every one!! At least 15 of the holes had little grass in the fairways that wasn't soaking wet with lots of mud instead of grass. Greens had unrepaired week old divots. Is there a head greenskeeper? He should be fired immediately. Do not waste your money on this course. read more

Solid golf course. Hope you hit it straight off the tee because there are some demanding holes. From tee to green the course was in great shape. Problem is the greens were either slow or really slow (depending on the hole). Another is the pace of play was also not great. Decent range (where there are almost always extra golf balls left behind) and a good sized putting green. Not a place I'll go out of my way to play, but if there's a deal going on why not. read more

I want this place to be better, but it's got too many issues. The conditions of the course are pretty good. The fairways are in great shape, and the course isn't too "Mickey Mouse," meaning unnecessary gimmicks on the course (see the 18th at Whiskey Creek). But, at least at the time of this posting, the blue tee boxes are a 5 on a 10 scale. The tee boxes for playing the tips are great though, 8.5 out of 10). And here's my biggest gripe: the greens are too firm. I'm guessing that they haven't been aerated yet. On the 7th, a par 3, I sent in a nice, high 8-iron. The ball came down 10-12 feet in front of the flag and LITERALLY BOUNCED OVER THE STICK. I did not hit one green all day, because the greens are unable to hold anything. Aerate the greens!! Also, maybe it was just me, but the bunkers have great sand... almost too much. I was in 5 bunkers, and on 4 of them, the ball was buried at least 80% below the surface. Obviously, you're not supposed to be in the bunkers, but this is absurd. wedges buried, as did 5 irons. Also, the place of play here is abysmal. I have played here twice in the past three weeks, and both rounds of 18 holes took over 5 hours. 2-3 groups at EVERY par 3. There are two ways to help address this: 1) Use rangers. I saw a ranger once over both rounds, and despite waiting on every tee box for the group in front, when we were on the 9th hole, the ranger said we need to keep up. We started to explain that we were constantly waiting, and he interrupted me to say, "All I know is what I see, and you're behind." We so finish the 9th hole, proceed to the 10th... where the group in front of us still had not teed off. I should mention that you can see the 10th tee from the 9th green; this ranger sucked. 2) Since this is a common problem, stop booking tee times 8 minutes apart. I know that you'll lose a little money because you'll book fewer foursomes at this rate, but you'll also get more repeat customers who won't be subjected to 5+ hour rounds. read more

I bought a player's pass at PVGC because I thought at the time it was a "good deal". I am a beginner and was looking forward to the promise of unlimited access to driving range. Only I was not told that the driving range is closed most of the time; at times it feels like it is closed permanently. I would have to come at a certain time of the day and a certain day so I can use the driving range. They also did not tell me that you are limited to only two buckets of balls a day with player's pass. read more

Really nice layout, but the conditions were pretty shaky. The greens were quite bumpy, with lots of poorly repaired ball marks. Couple that with their great speed and some tricky pin placements, and the putting was quite tough. Tee boxes and fairways were "OK", but I expect much better than OK for the price. To PVGC's credit, it is trying to address the issues with its long time bunker problems. There is tons of new sand in the bunkers (it's quite literally like a "beach"). Therefore, the bunkers are nearly unplayable for now, until they (hopefully) settle. I was surprised to arrive for my round and find out that the range was closed due to some recent rain. PVGC on a windy day is enough of a challenge. Not being able to warm up properly made it all the tougher. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was pretty good. Need to eat in the clubhouse though...the cart girl didn't carry much food. I played on a Groupon for about $40 or $50, which is about what this course is worth in its current condition. I definitely would not recommend playing here at full price until/unless conditions improve. read more

Not bad for a public course. Nice layout with a good mix of holes, not many houses around. Kudos to the greenskeeper for the great, and I mean great condition of the bunkers. These have the best, and most consistent sand of any public or upscale course in the area. Bull Run, especially, should take a lesson. Pace of play mid-week was excellent. read more

Course is nice, challenging..greens were in great condition and play tough. I think $98 for a round here is a bit excessive given the overall condition of the course. Certain holes were quite chewed up. Overall, decent experience playing Pleasant Valley, but seems a little bit over priced. Bonus that cart fee and range balls are included, however. read more

So disappointed...Wanted to treat my nephew to a nice round of golf this weekend and I mistakenly chose PVGC. I want to preface this by saying that I rarely complain about a course because I just enjoy being out there playing but what a mess that place is. First I think it is disgrace that courses don't offer junior rates. Aren't we supposed to be promoting junior golf? Their response was "Of course not. Not during the weekends. We could potentially arrange something for during the week if you want." So basically they don't have a junior rate. I can get past that because, after all, it is a business. However, the course conditions were atrocious for $78/person. The fairways are horrible. They clearly weren't cut for a few days and the divots were crazy. Whatever person was responsible for putting out the tee markers should either be fired or should have to take a class on what not to do. If you are going to charge your most expensive rate on the weekends, the least you could do is make sure that the course is good to go. The tee markers were on the downslope (front) and upslope (back) of every tee box. At first I thought that someone made a mistake with a few of them but as the round progressed it seemed like it was deliberate. Like they were trying to protect the middle of the tee boxes...on a weekend. I looked on the schedule and there were no events scheduled so clearly not saving them for someone more important than us. There is no excuse for that. Needless to say, I played from a flat spot regardless of the tee marker location. Secondly, the driving range was closed. The "excuse" was that it rained a lot last night. I went up to the driving range to confirm. While there were some spots that were wet (and they were few and far between) I was really upset that they didn't tell you that up front. I had to go in and ask about it. I would have gone to play somewhere else if they would have told me that. Once again, a deliberate action on their part. Closing a driving range on your busiest day is just dumb. Lastly, they didn't even bother to check the accuracy of the flags on the GPS. The flags were in the wrong locations on several holes essentially making the GPS unusable for your approach shots. Yes, I am perfectly capable of calculating my own yardages but this was just the last straw. I will make sure to never play that course again or it's sister course, South Riding. I know a few members that have recently terminated their membership because of a number of other issues. A great course ruined by deplorable management. read more

Just home from the course and what a pleasant surprise at Pleasant Valley! The course was in terrific shape, best I have ever seen for it. I played there a lot a decade ago and remembered it as a strong "B" grade course. They now deserve an "A" rating, A kind winter and spring gave the efficient greenskeeper & co. much to work with on the excellent layout. They have done their part and then some to make this a top course. The staff were friendly and professional at every point of contact. Do yourself a favor and play this terrific track before the summer heat does its damage to all our area links. read more

We found this place from a special on Groupon and my buddy and I had a great time here. Clubhouse & pro shop employees are very pleasant and helpful. Course is very well taken care of and challenging. The only negative, which is the only reason that dropped my review down from a 5, was the starter. He was very pushy and rude. Course conditions were great for me, a low 20 handicapper. After nine holes, I caught up to two groups of two players. Pace of play slowed a bit, giving me time to practice extra putts. After twelve holes, I lost one in the thick grass and spent time looking for the ball. After completing the hole and driving up to the next hole, a single player out of nowhere was waiting in the tee box (back tees) for the group ahead to tee off. I asked where did he come from. He thought I was asking for his Nationality. I told him I have been following the two groups ahead and have not finished playing 18 holes. I asked him if he had played 18 yet and he said yes. I told him he should not jump ahead of me and that I should be teeing off next. He began to yell as I went to the tee box. I teed off, and before I cleared the tee box, he teed off. We had further words and since his ball was further down the fairway, I let him finish the hole. I called the golf shop, but attendant was unable to send anyone out to settle the situation. I finished up behind the Jumper. Needless to say, what was a pleasant afternoon turned into a tense situation. read more

A decent track with good rates, but not a course you are going to remember. Very slow pace of play and the morning round took almost 5 hours. Played late afternoon in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Both times in a foursome. The fairways were in great shape, and the greens were above average. Fairly wide fairways on most holes. Water was available around the course, but the jugs were empty by the start of our second round of the day and were not refilled. Nice that they had several Don's Johns conveniently located throughout. The staff was courteous, but not overly friendly. The staff in the snack bar seemed like they had been up all night, and the starters just seemed to be waiting to get paid and go home. There was a cart on the course until around 2:00 and the young lady was friendly. The greens were slow, and mostly flat, so not much worry with where you hit your ball to. The sand traps were in decent condition. Most players did not bother to fix their divots so the putts will be a bit jumpy if you don't fix them yourself. I would play again, but would not make it a regular on my list. I had three ticks get on me during the round and I was never near the weeds or in any area where that should have happened. Make sure to coat yourself with bug repellant. read more
