Would be a 0 if that was an option. Scheduled a 3:10PM tee time on a Saturday and the first 9 took 3 hours and 50 minutes. It was backed up by 8 carts at one point on hole 3. Horrendous management by the course and the starter. Several calls were made with no adjustments to the pace of play. A complete scam having to pay $110 for something like this. read more

The course was in the best shape I have seen in years, greens were perfect, fairways full and green. Our entire group of players wants to come back here for our event next year. 5 Stars - Andrew and the clubhouse team took care of "our booking mistake." The course has seen good days and bad days but its been trending positive for over a year now. Suspect they got a new grounds staff or leader who knows what he/she is doing as the course conditions are some of the best in the western Fairfax/Loudon county area. For those that like to walk, this is a walkable course. Unfortunately, no discount for walking. Finally, this course is associated with Pleasant Valley which offer two good course in the area. read more

They've lost 90% of the tee boxes and this place drains poorly to say the least. An okay layout with some funky greens. Greens were okay. At least the bunkers were nicely sanded. Not a place I'll be visiting for a long while. read more

We had the opportunity to golf this course for a charity fundraiser. The course is situated inside of a South Riding community. You have to drive through the various homes to find the location. Once we arrived, we parked in the small lot. The pro shop is located inside the clubhouse. They sell various shirts and golf stuff. There is a snack shop that sells grilled foods and all kinds of drinks. Today there was a hotdog combo special for $5. Several people took advantage of that. The driving range is wide open, no cover if rain was forecasted but it was very spacious. The putting area was huge and allowed lots of practice. Since it had rained several days prior, the carts were only allowed on the path. Much of the grass needed some work. The course is on flat ground and had lots of open space. Golfing here was nice. We hope to come back and use our swag bag coupons. read more

People working there are not friendly. Starter was lecturing us. The people at the pro shop don't know company policy and stated incorrect facts. The course is very confusing trying to navigate from home to hole. Would not recommend this course. I will never golf there again even though it is 10 minutes from my home. Golf prices are expensive and the customer service should reflect better. Look elsewhere everyone. read more

I've never had such a low class experience at any course. I've been coming to this course for many years paying the $299 for an annual pass. I care about this course and do my best to follow the etiquette. But the course has hired a groundskeeper and manager with serious personality problems. The groundskeeper has harassed my son and I at least three times before about taking care of the grounds by replacing the divots and watching where we walk. We've been doing this ever since coming here for ten years, so I was perplexed, but apparently he has been unconvinced and has harassed us to do so at least on three separate occasions. He has even accused of stealing a cheap basket from the range on another occasion. There is something wrong with this man. He even complained that he had to do more work because of us. Finally when we were leaving today he followed us to the parking lot and yells at that we tear up the pitching greens every day and he's had to work to repair them. We only come here twice a week at the most, so of course I was upset and explained that we always replace our divots. I explained that we are paying associate members and we've been coming here for ten years. Why would we treat the place like we were never coming back? He shouted that we were cheap and that we only pay the $299 membership, and that we were not full members . I don't understand, the golf course offers the membership plan and yet we are cheap for buying it? I asked for the manager from the front office and they lied, attempting to tell me that he wasn't there. Keep in mind that all this time the groundskeeper followed us to the office and is standing next to me aggressively threatening me to watch my mouth and watch yourself. I asked what are you going to do? He said "Man you are not going to like how this ends". This is when I thought I better leave. As I was leaving the manager comes outside shouting aggressively at me that he was the manager and "what is your problem?" I explained everything politely, but he insisted we were in the wrong and even insinuated that we were cheap by stating that we could have the two Gatorades that we had purchased earlier for free and we should leave. I said we are not cheap low class people and you better treat us with some respect. He then told us that we were not welcomed here anymore. These are not the type of people you'd expect working at a decent golf course. Stay away from here. They have a very low opinion of you if you just purchase the Associate membership and they treat you like it. read more

The course was in great shape and the layout was pretty fun. We played on the fourth of July this year as a foursome. We were stuck behind a twosome who originally broke off from their group. This made for a 5:10 pace on a holiday weekend. After approaching the extremely slow twosome in front of us and kindly asking if they would be OK with grouping up with the twosome in front of them, they refused because "they'd just be waiting for the slow foursome in front of that twosome". They didn't understand how this impacted the rest of the course - so we figured we'd just let the marshall know (who's job it is to ensure pace of play) so he can handle it. The Marshall fabricated a story that would have made sense if it were true. "Oh... you know what happened, they were playing together and two of those guys went into the clubhouse at the turn". "No" we replied, "this had been goin on all day". The Marshall approached the twosome and came back to us and said there was nothing he could do and that he wouldn't group the two twosomes together. Nice course, but shitty pace of play. A Marshall and guests who don't understand basic golf etiquette is enough for us not to return. read more

For the price, this was by far the worst course I have ever played on. I think it would be worth it to play twilight on a weekday only since most courses in that area are expensive. I have played on courses that were half the price and in better condition. The tee boxes had little to no grass and expect to fix 1-3 ball marks if you have a longer putt. I've always enjoyed playing this course and have been an associate member for years. It's a great layout, the staff are always welcoming and friendly, and the rates are reasonable.Regrettably the management company and those responsible for the course upkeep have allowed the course to go downhill. Many areas on the fairways and rough have been damaged by their own equipment or the public and they are never addressed or repaired. Many of the areas alongside the tee boxes on several holes are devoid of grass and never get roped off or reseeded. Areas of the fairways with tire ruts or mowing equipment are left in a state of disrepair all season and are never roped off and repaired. Several tee boxes have more weeds than grass, and several of the cart paths will jolt your teeth with their potholes or cracked blacktop. It's a shame because it could be one of the best courses around. Corporate seems to be looking for as much profit as possible and appears to care little about making improvements for the benefit of their patrons. It's a shame because more and more people I talk to are complaining about the conditions. read more

Probably just as good as Pleasant Valley, the sister course. The only bad thing is the course is nestled in a residential community. That can mess with some peoples heads when they're playing. There are a few houses on the course that are "hittable." SR is more of a traditional course. They also have the GPS equipped carts. The practice facilities here are smaller than PV. I like to play here just to change it up so I don't play PV too often. read more

I would say that this place is worth $40-$50 at best. It's on par with any of the Montgomery County Municipal courses. As for their course in general, their fairways are wide and it's not very hilly so there's not too many blind shots. If you want to feel good about your golf game, I guess you can come here. Just not for the price. They do offer free range balls and GPS is built into the carts. And I do like the fact that they encourage you to drive on the fairways which helps with the pace of play a lot. But for close to $100, I would expect to play at like Lake Presidential or something. read more

Good course complete with a driving range, chipping area, and putting green. Well maintained fairways and challenging greens. Rough was a bit high in certain parts but I think that was due to the recent rain we received. We slipped out of work early to play on a Thursday late afternoon (4:30) and easily got in the full 18. I played mid-week with a Groupon deal ($40 incl. lunch). It seems like a good course that should be worth a $60-75 cost incl. cart on weekends, little pricey at $90 even with the cart and range balls. Due to it's relatively easily accessible location, i'm curious how crowded or backed up it might get on the weekends... I will definitely play again, but likely only play after work especially at the twilight rate. read more

I played this course a few weeks back, and the place is doing an EXCELLENT job of repairing the bunkers. There are still numerous holes that require attention on the front nine, but the entire back is done. Kudos to the course for investing on these improvements. Fairways aren't narrow by any means but course can be a little unforgiving. Nestled in middle of suburbia (at least to us inside the beltway folks!), this golf course weaves its' 18 holes around a complex of homes in South Riding, VA. Many holes have homes lining one side or another making for some interesting shots. I didn't find it to be a distraction though and it just served to keep the course interesting. In addition to the normal things that you would find on a golf course (i.e. dog legs, shooting over water, and that annoying little branch hanging over the fairway that you somehow always manage to hit), I found the fairways to be fairly open. Beware though, go left or right and your hazards will include tall grass, high shrubs, and dense clusters of trees. Good luck finding your ball in that... The course is also pretty long at 6400 yards (blues). Things I liked included golf carts with GPS, driving range, beer carts that came by every couple of holes, and decent pace of play. We went on a Sunday and got done in 4 1/2 hrs, with nobody pushing our foursome. Things I didn't like was the cost of the round (thankfully we had a groupon), a number of sand traps with water in them, and fairways that were beat up in a number of areas. Overall, I enjoyed my round so I can't complain. I'd play again. read more

I played South Riding for the first time last month and for the $60 greens fee, I was hoping the bunkers and greens would be in better condition. The bunkers were hard packed sand with weeds growing. It looks like SR has given up on maintaining them. The greens had some ball marks and small divots the greens keeper should address. There was also a weird section on a couple of the fairways that felt like there was water under the grass (i.e. waterbed feel). read more

This course is nestled into the south riding residential community. I think course was built as a selling point for some of the home owners. There was staff on hand, although what they do I have no idea. I felt like I was interrupting them by trying to play or get items from the snack bar. the snack bar by the way was worthless if you ever could get someone to wait on you. Golf carts were scattered and you had to search for a clean one. The staff was too busy BSing with each other to do any work. Fairways were in good shape, the greens were sub par. The signage dictating where to go to the next is hole missing. I have seen lemon aide stands marked better. Price was too high. If you live close by it might be ok if you get a deal. I would not drive out of my way to go to this course. The driving range is too small. This course is living off of the perception that since it is in south riding it is a top notch course. Management should be ashamed as to how this place operates. It looked like a teenage/college hangout spot with an occasional golf cart around. read more

I play South Riding 5 or 6 times a year and enjoy it. It is challenging for a local course, but not so much you go home feeling like you got kicked in the nuts. Not sure how often people who complain about the condition play, but I have been there probably 20 times in the last 4 years and I'd say it is in very good shape and has beautiful fairways and greens most of the time. (Caveat - I never play Nov - Apr so o clue then). Whites are pretty solid if you are a decent golfer and blue is a test if mediocre. Was able to played this course over this weekend with friend. First the positive is that all the carts have GPS, which makes it simpler to judge distance. But most courses in the Chantilly area has GPS. I can't say I have a great experience. The course is relatively new. It needs time to mature. The staff wasn't very friendly. The greens were very slow; they need to be rolled. Grass clippings well left all over the rough, including the greens. I don't understand why that can't be collected for compost during cutting. For the same price, I rather go over to Reston National. The only thing is that Reston National is a bit more crowded, because it is a nicer course. read more

Their conditions can be suspect and they built too many houses on what would otherwise be a terrific Dan Maples design. The range is small and squeezed into the course, next to the club house. It seems like your typical early boom golf course that had to maximize revenue, which is a shame they are wasting such a good layout. read more

The course is nice and staffs are very friendly. However I would never join membership or buy player's pass simply because their range hours are crazy! Last year I was told that the range would close at 6 p.m. due to short staff, this was mid summer season when sunset is around 8:30 p.m. Many many times they would close the range because it's little too wet. I would call other ranges and other golf courses in Chantilly area to learn that they are open. It's too bad for both parties because I live in South Riding community and retired from work. South Riding staff just told me that it's too wet to open the range and I just called 1757 golf course. 1757 range are open! I guess I would consider full membership at 1757 golf course. I'm not writing this out of frustration. To play round of golf, South Riding is very nice. To take advantage of range time, this is wrong course to join membership. read more

This course has a nice layout and is in decent condition, but good luck finishing a round before dark. My last round there took 5.5 hours. My advice to the course would be to put a starter on the first tee and have a ranger on the course encouraging people to play ready golf. In October, you should be able to tee off at 1:30, play 18 holes, and finish with daylight to spare. It's the course's responsibility to enforce an acceptable pace of play. read more

I've always liked this course and have been playing it since it was built when there were only a handful of houses there. Not so any longer. South Riding rivals Piedmont and Virginia Oaks in the number of houses and town homes that surround almost every hole. That said, I found the course to be in very good condition. Greens and fairways were very good. The only knock is the bunkers. I have more sand in my fish tank than in 95% of the bunkers on this course. Most were unplayable with the exception of a few on the back nine that have been renovated. We were told that bunker renovation would be ongoing, I certainly hope so. The bunkering issue seems to be a common problem at the high end courses here in NO. Va. as I seen the same issue at Bull Run, Westfields and Stonewall at one time or another. Is sand that expensive? If it is, maybe they should consider making a lot of these bunkers into grass bunkers. The other complaint I have is that while all these course have grass tees on their driving ranges they never seem to be open and you are left to hit off mats which is one of the worst things a golfer can do. With green fees being what they are I find this somewhat puzzling. read more

This place has a ton of potential but most of the staff doesn't seem to care or don't have a clue. The exception are the pros that teach my kids( Chad is great) and pro shop staff are pretty decent. For the rest of the review I will focus on the way the 'manage' the driving range. They apparently have no concept of safety. When hitting from the grass, they allow way to many people into the tiny space they have allocated. It is down right dangerous. The practice mats are in horrible shape. Pace of play here is abysmal, it's an automatic 5 hour round on weekends. The course is not maintained well - 5 inch unkempt, patchy rough around the greens, and the putting surface is chewed up with unfixed divots. Yet they have the audacity to charge $80+. Really bad experience. read more

The course is Ok, but don't even bother playing it if you are a woman. I played today with my husband and a male friend. The maintenance guy spraying chemicals on the course (who was folloing us around), repeatedly waited for the men to tee off and then drove right back out into middle of the fairway before I got to the tee box. Guess he just didn't see me. Until the hole where I didn't have to drive to my tee box and started walking toward it as soon as the men teed off. Didn't make any difference; he still drove out in the fairway in front of me. On 9 (our last hole), he drove between me and the green while I was getting ready to chip onto the green. While spraying chemicals. When I complained to the General Manager, I got "oh, we've never had any complaints before. I'll talk to him". Not a sincere expression of apology, and the offer to give me a discount if I called before I came out again was pretty lame. Doubt very seriously I will be doing so, and certainly won't be recommending the course to my friends.. read more
