Their warehouse style tasting room doubles as their barrel room. The winery is located between Shenandoah and Fiddletown Roads several minutes back and up the hill. This winery focuses mainly on Syrah varietals with several blends including a GSM and a Zin/Syrah. I am not a big Syrah fan, but I did appreciate the more traditional GSM with a more subtle blend. Their Zinfandel uses a different yeast profile relying more on natural yeasts for a more lively taste. The room is also a nice escape from some of the more fancy places down the road. Distant does lack a wide variety of varietals, and their location is a bit remote. However, Syrah fans should seek out this winery for a more unique take on Amador blends and Rhone wines.

The bottle labels and wine names were entertaining in themselves. With an extensive list it was hard to choose a few to try. I started with three of their five sparkling wines. The Almond, the Peach, and the Strawberry. I have an office full of girls that enjoy their sweet bubbles. So they got some that day. For me, I like the reds. I thinks it's truly annoying they have to refund the entire wine pick up and recharge you again. It's not a friendly user experience and should be reviewed. Credit the two bottles and recharge the 2 bottles. I think it would be a simple process for the customer and the winery, and still have good accounting practices. I asked if we could have the complementary breadsticks everyone else was eating them and the girl behind the counter said we are all out. OKAY! I really love the Chardonnay it's my favorite. Rombauer makes some great wines. Bottles can be costly, but once you open the bottle and you have your first - three sips, you know why you're in the wine club. As a member your tastings are complementary which is a nice benefit. I'm happy that they hold our wine club bottles until we come to pick them up usually twice a year. It would be nice if they did complementary shipping for a penny all the time.

I had to show them the email confirmation. It was fine and we were still able to sit down right away. The inside wine tasting room is kind of small but the outdoor patio and area makes up for it. It is quite big and open. I think someone can host an outdoor concert or a wedding. We got to taste about five type of wines (Sauvignon Blanc and few blended red wine). They were all good. I particularly like the 2020 Interlude and purchased a bottle for my sister. We also got to sample from their gallery collection library club that's like 20+ years old ( I forgot the exact year) and that was special. They also have dumplings and spring rolls for purchase. I skip that because I wasn't sure if that would go with the wine. We bought some cheese with us and we had that with our wine. Of course, we asked for permission before bringing in our own cheese and crackers. The gentleman that served us was really nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed and wine was poured at a good pace. I do want to mention that most winery at Amador will comp at least one tasting with purchase, but not at Di Arie. If you're not a member, be prepared to pay the full wine tasting fee per person.

In my opinion, they are doing so many things to enhance the wine tasting experience, it could blow away the competition. Examples are as follows: 1. Rebuilding, refinishing and updating the tasting room and facility. 2. Hiring the former Sous Chef from Taste restaurant to create food offerings/pairings and provide a small bite sample with wine tasting. 3. Display unique and unusual art in and around the property. (They have seven full size panels from the Berlin Wall adjacent to the tasting room.) 4. Staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. 5. The wine pricing is reasonable when compared to the quality. 6. Both the food and wine are excellent. That said, I think the one possible stumbling point could be their attempt to blend in their east coast sister wines and styles with this region. It might be an interesting idea, but I am uncertain people locally will appreciate or understand the effort. The Amador wine region is not Napa Valley, and I don't think it possesses the international appeal, notoriety or demographics that will support the concept of bi-coastal wines. In any event, we will return to further experience the ongoing evolution of this remarkable winery.
