I took advantage of the Jumbo Shrimp lunch special on Monday, while hubby opted for the 20 piece shrimp with fries and it was well worth it. Everything was well seasoned: from the shrimp, to the fries, to the sauces. Maybe I would've enjoyed a little less seasoning on the fries to balance the shrimp a bit more, but I'm sure the fries would taste perfect on their own. Could have been seasoned more. The hush puppies were good. The fries were horrible...greasy, un seasoned and soggy. The roll had a weird texture. I ended up throwing it in the trash. My husband ordered food from this restaurant via GrubHub about a week ago. He couldn't stop talking about the quality and the freshness of the fish, so we came in this past weekend to try it out. It appeared to be a clean and family owned restaurant. The music they were playing was rockin'. However, it was much too loud for a Saturday morning. I even had to leave the restaurant to sit outside because I almost couldn't hear myself think. The music was appropriate for the venue, but it was just much too loud. It appeared that the staff had a friendly and patient demeanor about them with new customers, who were coming into the restaurant, to look at and question the menu. I met a man outside with his puppy and the staff came out to greet the puppy as they were all trying to be friendly with everyone. However, a few minutes later, the man entered the restaurant with his puppy, and it was clearly not a service dog. The dog was inside of the restaurant for a few minutes before they collected their order of food and left. I did meet the owner and she was very sweet and easy to converse with. I also met her brother who is the co-owner of this place. They said they just had their grand opening about a week or two ago. The owners stated that everything was homemade and you could definitely see they have a passion for food, and interacting with all those who enter their place. My husband and I had the fried catfish and fried salmon, along with the coleslaw and collard greens. I'm not a big fan of collard greens since most of the ones I've eaten are either too salty or bitter, but these ones were probably the best greens I've ever had. The fried catfish and fried salmon were cooked perfectly and my only complaint was that the sides of tartar sauce- and hot sauce- should be much bigger. I did get an order of french fries, too, and they tasted like typical frozen crinkle cut fries baked in the oven... but hey, I like frozen french fries. I think if the fries were homemade like everything else in the restaurant, then this place could be a hit on every angle. I think as novice restaurant owners, there's definitely room for growth. I do believe that this small business in its humble dwelling of a shopping center, will do well, if the owners continue to take the suggestions from their customer base and learn from previous decisions. It seemed as if they already had a large following of regular customers in such a short period of time, which is phenomenal, given the current state of our economy, and the current state of Covid-19 amongst our communities.
