Overall, underwhelmed with the food and experience at Plow. The restaurant is undergoing some construction so that may be a factor. We sat inside at a booth across from the bar. We were very close to the kitchen area. Their pizza oven is cool, I think I should have ordered pizza. We ordered onion rings and a meatball for apps. We asked the waitress if that was too much for an app and she said no but when it came out it could have been our meal. The portions are huge. Wish we would have known. The onion rings were good but the meatball didn't have much flavor. The waitress was nice and checked in often. Unfortunately, our app order was submitted with our dinner order so everything came out all at the same time. It's always a bit overwhelming when that happens and ends up being too much food to eat at once. It would have been nice to be spaced out, especially with big portions. I had fried chicken and fries and my husband had a pasta dish. Both dishes were rich so we didn't eat too much. The table behind us ordered the pizza which looked good! They do have an awesome patio and the night we were here they had live music with an outdoor bar. Great vibe! They have a great location right on the main street with easy street parking. Solid Restaurant in an area that doesn't have a lot of fine dining options. The building was undergoing some construction when we were there, but it's an iconic, historical, and relevant building to the village of Cambridge. This said, while charming... sitting by the windows in the winter is a bit chilly. I had a rye Manhattan crafted with the local Dancing Goat distillery Rey... while I don't think this distillery is as of yet actually distilling- rather they are barrel aging their spirits... the manhattan was very good. The menu is not huge and that's fine. Big, poorly crafted menus don't really add to dining experiences. In addition to the menu several nightly specials were offered. I opted for one of them, a nice baked/broiled cod... actually seemed like it was pan seared in a French technique of basting with butter. In any case, it was very nice... I quite fancied it. I substituted a twice baked potato for the rice pilaf after seeing one being delivered to a nearby table. The cod was laid on a little bed of greens and came with reasonably portioned side of glazed carrots. My companion had the raspberry salad and was quite pleased with it. We did also start with an order of onion rings... also because I saw an order going out for service. Large, crunchy rings with a side of ranch... really quite tasty. Would I go to Plow again... sure, might avoid a window seat in the winter, and or go in warmer weather as it looks like they probably have a great patio. read more

We had an Indian goat dish that was not my favorite but to be honest it was a bit of a step out of my norm. the goat was great but rest was just not really my taste. First I'll say reservations mean nothing here. We agreed to share a table to get a seat. They have insufficient service workers and we waited an Hour and half to be seated. The food is good I've had the catfish and clam chowder before and that's what we came for -Good quality and flavor. The servers they have do try hard but they are overwhelmed. They should either hire more workers or take fewer reservations until they staff up. Dinner is going to be a three hour experience. It even took 45 minutes to get soup. But they did give us bread and water. Better that a prison detainee . I hope Plow figures it out. read more

Really was hoping this could be the restaurant this town wants and needs. A place that become a regular go to. Unfortunately it was not. We went here tonight with some friends. It took a long to me to get drinks, at which time we placed our orders. We received no service as we waited for food. It took a half hour to get drink fills from when we were empty, setting in the sun. The food took well over an hour, maybe an hour and fifteen minutes. The food was not good, and I am being kind. Cold, incomplete, over cooked, and in the instance of the pork nachos, skimpy. It took a very long time to get some of the missed items, salad dressing. They also forgot two items, to which we elected to say no thanks. Just an over all horrible experience. Others at the restaurant were expressing the same, and one table actually got up and left. read more

We were recommended Plow by a friend. He is normally a very picky person...and he visited multiple times. First off I loved the atmosphere. Very neat old building. Unfortunately we never made it out of the bar to sit in the dining room! We called for reservations and were told never more than a 15-20 minute wait. When we got there at 6 pm (Friday night) we had a few names ahead of us. After 30 minutes we opted to just eat at the bar. The food was good but service was not (a lady next to us left the bar after waiting 10 minutes w/o getting served)! We believe they were short staffed but we were never told that by anyone. We'll give it another shot at some point...but I expect better from a nicer restaurant! read more

Still trying to be a fan of this restaurant-really! A Parade of Homes site is right down the road from The Plow. A no brainer to attract customers . Yet when we get there (along with a few other customers) we are greeted at the door telling us they're closed between 2-4 to "turn over" for dinner. SAY WHAT? Are you kidding... it is a beautiful Saturday with parade of homes right down the street, you have a gorgeous patio and you say you're closed and turn people away. Unbelievable. Since I'm a complete glutton for punishment and go back after 4 o'clock...and was again greeted at the door along with other couples and they said that they couldn't feed anyone for a couple hours because they had a private party going on upstairs and turn people away AGAIN. We asked if we could have a drink on the patio and they reluctantly said yes. We had one horrible drink on the patio and no one in the 45 minutes we were out there came out to see how we were doing or update us on where they were in terms of serving food at their so-called restaurant. The beautiful patio is very unkept with weeds growing everywhere broken lanterns and just overall sloppiness. My advice is to walk across the street to the Keystone where you will get great food at decent prices and a friendly smile. Or drive down the street to the Sports Page or Lake Ripley Inn. read more

Our first dining experience in Cambridge, WI! We had excellent coffee across the street at Kindfolk and read the mostly positive reviews for the Plow. We ate a late lunch at the bar and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is a combination of rural farm and contemporary bar, and there's a roaring fire going inside the pizza oven. I ordered the steak & blue cheese flatbread made in that same oven. It was perfect. I also enjoyed a Manhattan made with local-ish Limosin rye. It was also excellent. My date had the crispy chicken sandwich which looked delicious and I'm told tasted even better. It was served with potato salad which looked pretty good. She said it was fine. The only minor downside to the experience were the potatoes served as a side to her sandwich. They were soaking in the oil too long and were dark brown and greasy. Since she wasn't expecting them, she wasn't disappointed at all and they went uneaten. This led us to a discussion of "jo-jos" and whether these qualified as such. I don't think they did. As we were finishing, the owner (I think) offered us a taste of his pumpkin pie whipped cream. It was especially delicious and was a really cool thing to try as he was just perfecting the recipe. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience and I look forward to trying a few more items on our next visit. read more

I had really high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, the more recent reviews were accurate, and our experience was similar - long waits, food was hit or miss. The woman who seated us "didn't know" we were seated? and didn't inform anyone, in fact the kitchen was closed before we ordered (an hour after we were seated) and had to be reopened. To his credit, the owner did his best to get food out to us quickly, and the bartender did a great job of picking up the slack - it was his first day on the job and he is really what made our night. It's a great space, and some things were actually good - the catfish fry and the eggplant Parmesan were decent, but we we sent back the Mac & cheese (tasteless) and the NY Strip (overdone - we ordered MR and got MW, even confirmed with the owner/chef ahead of time). Lack of attention was a huge problem and I hope they find a way to resolve this, I'd love to see them succeed. read more

I visited Plow tonight for the first time and fell in love with the place. The bartender and servers were welcoming and friendly when I walked in. My aunt and I got a cozy table next to the fireplace which was perfect on a chilly evening like tonight. I ordered the grilled salmon and the chef came out to talk to me and make sure he cooked it to my liking. Talk about good service! Our server was attentive and incredibly friendly. My salmon was cooked perfectly, and my aunt's pasta was delicious. The salmon was fresh, never frozen. The meatballs that came with my aunt's pasta was from a local farm. The clams in the clam chowder were fresh from Boston, also never frozen! It was all fantastic. The restaurant has a charming, and cozy atmosphere. I loved the lighting, and the fireplace. There is a large patio in front that I'm sure would be great to enjoy in warmer weather. I would definitely recommend!! Five stars all the way. read more

We've been here twice now and really like this place! It's such an awesome concept: the owners are also the farmers that provide a lot of the restaurant's ingredients. A true farm to table! The Wednesday pizza menu is my favorite! Roasted veggie pizza was out of this world. We were also impressed with the mushroom appetizer and the Friday fish specials. Like other Yelpers have said, service is pretty slow, so don't come starving. Or at least, be prepared for the food to take 45+ minutes. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience of hosting a small wedding reception of 40-plus this weekend with the help of Charles and Trina Fiesel and their entire staff at Plow. With access to the main dining room, well-planned to accommodate the party, with a buffet of ample and uniquely delicious appetizers and full-bar service. Everyone present commented on the food and presentation and as the Parents of the bride, I can say that their restaurant made for an effortless afternoon of family gathering. My wife and I were strolling around Cambridge, WI on a Saturday and stumbled on this restaurant. Their sign recommended to come in to enjoy a $10 lunch. We decided to give it a go, and we were glad we did. Everything on their lunch menu was $10, so it didn't matter what we ordered. I had the BBQ brisket flatbread and my wife had the French dip. My flatbread was quite good. The BBQ sauce was mild, and although I prefer something with a little more bold, but the other flavors of the beef and cheese made up for that. The crust was very good. My wife's French dip was very good. The beef was tender and flavorful. There was a nice cheese on it, and the dip was delicious. Hers came with cole slaw, and it's very good. The next time we go there, I'll be certain to get that again. This restaurant is a farm to table place, the farm being the owner's farm. In fact, he has two farms. (We met him during lunch, and he was very gracious and not shy about answering questions.) he produces his on pork and lamb, and he assures us that he us non-GMO, free range, and humane in his treatment of the animals. He gets his beef from a beef producer with much the same standards he holds to himself. After our lunch, he took us on a tour of the back room and basement. He also talked about plans for the business. The basement room has some tables, and he uses it to hold cooking classes. There is a wine cellar, and he told about how it was the spot where they had a water wheel. Upstairs in the back, there is a high efficiency wood burning fireplace (which also provides ambiance). On display is the scale used to weigh grain. Upstairs is a loft dining area, and although we didn't go up there, we were told it holds about 40 people. My wife and I were very impressed with everything about this restaurant. Our plan is to go back and try their dinner. I suggest you do to! read more

In short, some good food with really, really, slow service. 45 minutes to get food and 30 minutes to get our bill back. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night. We had a party of 4 and arrived at 6:10. We were told to wait to be seated so the kitchen could catch up. Then the bartender had to ask for help (10 people max in the bar area). Much of the staff seems either new, or lost, or a combination of both. We were seated and after about 15 minutes our server appeared. After ordering, it was a 45 minute wait for food. Mind you the place was at about 60% capacity max. Simply put, the service was unacceptably slow given the number of people in the restaurant. Food - perch was very good, the coleslaw was also great. You can tell this place puts a lot of time to get their food right. It is a shame that the restaurant has such good food only to have such poor service. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend Plow until service improves. read more

We live in Madison and my brother and his family live in Whitewater. We were looking for a spot somewhere in the middle to have a nice fish fry dinner. Plow was perfect. The fish and other sides were delicious. The menu was diverse enough for our non-fish eater. The ambiance was cozy and service was outstanding. A disappointing Saturday lunch that was WAY overpriced. I found a small, limited lunch menu, which was fine, but $10 for a BLT? And another $5 for a small cup of no-flavor soup? While I was there, the staff had five tables they were serving - a total of 12 customers. The servers seemed frazzled and frantic the entire time. The water I asked for was never delivered. The soup was brought to the table and eventually the sandwich; unfortunately I never saw my server until my bill was delivered. The BLT was okay, but I'm trying to figure out the giant piece of decorative kale that took up half the plate and the pile of shaved raw onions. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here and everyone at the Plow did an exceptional job to make the meal perfect! They had decorated our room with fresh flowers and tasteful decorations with phrases about love. It was incredibly thoughtful and unexpected. We had 24 guests and they immediately took our drink orders and got them to us quickly. I enjoyed their local beer offerings and my fiance (now wife) enjoyed multiple mixed drinks, especially the Paloma. Plow had arranged ahead of time with me to choose three main courses to simplify the menu for our group so we could order quickly and ensured the week before that they'd have the meals we'd be ordering. The planning ahead made it really easy to get our meal orders in. Although it was tough to choose only three items, I don't think you could make a wrong choice because everything sounded delicious on the menu. When the food came out... the presentation and smells were fantastic! I got the steak which was cooked to perfection (I ordered it rare and the red was a consistent color throughout, without any bands that would imply it was frozen or cooked too quick). And the compliments can't stop there. The mashed potatoes were so fresh and naturally mashed. And the beans! I've only known my grandma's beans to taste so good; the attention the chef gave to the beans demonstrates how much he cares about every last bite you'll taste on your plate. The staff was so wonderful and made our night before our wedding extra special. When one of our guests thought they had forgotten a bag at the restaurant, the person on the phone went out of their way searching everywhere for it. (it turned out someone else in our group had grabbed the bag to bring to the wedding the next day) It was such a comfort to know how much concern he also shared for our missing item. We live near Cambridge and were excited to see that a new restaurant opened up in this beautiful building. The food was very good, and much of it comes directly from their farm! The salad was filled with an abundance of fresh vegetables and the dressing was made in house! In this area, it is hard to find a restaurant that serves a side salad that has fresh greens and croutons! My husband had the garlic chicken breast and it was very flavorful. Our dessert consisted of the fresh berry cobbler (berries from the farm) topped with vanilla ice cream. I can't give this a full review as i usually do as we only had drinks and appetizers - but our experience was excellent. I've always been a fan of the location and the historic building housing Plow. The ambiance is great and we entered to a warm greeting. Super friendly bartenders and very fun drink specials. The Old Fashion was excellent and my wife tried a Mule with Gin that was very good. For apps our group of 5 tried fried mushrooms, calamari and the Margarita Flatbread. All we excellent - tasty and cooked perfectly- I especially liked the mushrooms as they were topped with cheese and herbs and we SO much better than your average mushroom app. Friends of ours did stay and have dinner - the fish fry and a Salmon pizza or flat bread. I did not try these but the looked great and I'm pretty sure our friends were more than pleased. The restaurant is FARM to Plate and the owner and chef stopped by to talk with us and told us about his farms. Service we excellent and I can't wait to go back again to try more. read more

Just Ask Your Waiter For The Chef's Recommendation! Where should I start? It seems the Owner of this facility took a great time in selecting every detail. As soon as you walk in, you get the feeling you are in some place special. It may have been the lighting but it was welcomed. What's better than walking into a steakhouse and getting the feeling you are being swept off your feet by a masculine subtle ambiance. I am extremely picky about steak but this place was spot on. There is nothing like mistakenly cutting your steak with a butterknife and it ending well. No this isn't' your average steak and potatoes spot. Our potatoes were a medley of buttery, nutty and mildly sweet potatoes. The chef brought out a number of things for us to try. The overall experience was not only pleasing to the eye but satisfying to my insatiable appetite. Our waiter took note that we loved red wine and spared no expense in making sure we were satisfied with our selection. Try it! You just might find yourself pleasantly surprised. read more

Our table of 6 were in agreement that the server Treena was the worst server we ever experienced in our dining out.They were busy according to Treena so don't ask for any special requests, she answered any questions we had very snottily. One server did not show up for work but we could see empty tables throughout the restaurant so we figured it was the kitchen staff short-handed. It's like Treena gloated in not being able to serve us.It took an hour to get our food and it was lukewarm at best. We had to go to the bar ourselves if we needed anything for beverages. Everyone wants to love Plow but the folks who run it can't seem to get it together. We have been there three times, and each time had major issues. Long wait times for food, between 30-45 minutes, every time. The wait staff look stressed out and over worked. Unfriendly greetings at the door. They act like you bothered them when you show up. The biggest issue is the food. Horrible. The flatbread is just bad pizza dough improperly cooked in their wood oven. The chicken breast my wife had was improperly cooked and dry, and had so much balsamic vinegar the bitterness overwhelmed the dish. I have not tried everything on the menu, but everything I have tried had some type of bitter balsamic glaze drizzled on it. This isn't 1990 in California. The balsamic craze is over for good reason. Pro tip: If you season and cook the dish properly you don't need to garnish with an inedible balsamic drizzle. Conclusion: Go here for drinks and apps. Put up with the grumpy staff and enjoy. Try the smoked prime rib on Saturday nights. It's really good. (Just ask for it sans balsamic drizzle for shizzle) read more

We keep trying to like this place. We've lived in Cambridge for 15 years, and have watched other restaurants come and go from this unique and very cozy location. The food is always very good at the current version... The Plow. Last night we enjoyed some of the best fried calamari I've ever had. Perfectly breaded and friend, not greasy at all, very flavorful. We also had the muffuletta pizza. Fantastic! The problem, as is pretty much always the case, is the slloooooow service. We walked in to see one couple at the bar and a few tables occupied in the dining area at 6pm on a Wednesday. We were greeted quickly and seated by the bartender in the bar area. He took our orders, but then the wait began. It was close to a half hour on the calamari, and another 30 minutes after that for the pizza. All the while, since we were within earshot of the kitchen, we could hear terse words from the kitchen. The bartender apologized and said our food was coming right up a few times, and then he offered an excuse about a large order being placed ahead of ours? I checked. There were six people in the whole place besides us. No sign of a large take-out order going out the door. We do keep going back, because we like the food and want to support local businesses. That said, I can't really recommend The Plow unless you know going in that a diner experience that should take under an hour start to finish will always take another half hour or more here. Even as they seem to have simplified the menu, that can't get the back of the house to work efficiently. read more

OK... We recently stopped for dinner and sat at the bar while waiting for a table. The bar tender didn't have a clue about the bar! She had to ask how to make drinks and where to find various liquors in the back bar!! NOT IMPRESSED!! However, the dinner was rather good. The liver sausage appetizer was so good we asked how we might get some. We were told it's available in their "market store" which was closed! We've traveled twice now to Cambridge to get some liver sausage at the Market Store and it's never open! We've tried repeatedly calling the phone numbers listed on line for the restaurant, store and owners to find out when the store might be open but they never answer the phone nor respond to messages! A wood fired oven and no pizza...??!! Forget them.... pat read more
