It's a small place but such a gem! There were so many things they do well here. The dirty martini was actually dirty! The service was top tier. Everyone was super friendly and we received our orders in a timely manner. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the prices. $20 for one piece fish dinner and a side seems like a lot to me! The wedge salad was HUGE and cost $10 to upgrade. It tasted great but could've used more dressing. The bread is a MUST order. For $5 you can't go wrong. If you add shrimp to your meal be warned they are GINORMOUS haha but tasty also. Overall, the vibes of the place were so great. I would definitely eat here again, and I would DEFINITELY get another dirty martini!! Still a great experience. Classic supper club atmosphere with friendly service from everyone; hostess, bartenders and the server. Real wood fire in the fireplace. Stopped in New Year's Eve and they were busy as expected. We had a cocktail at the bar and a nice chat with other patrons while we waited for a table. I've eaten twice at this cozy spot perched on the bank of the Rock River in rural Jefferson. It's not much to look at from the outside, but the food and atmosphere lives up to the "supper club" moniker. It's dark inside with a very low ceiling (watch your head) with lots of nooks and crannies including the picturesque "porch" area with about 8 tables and lots of windows with a view of the muddy river. We sat on the porch on our first visit and on our second, as we had six people we were in a "booth" which was more of an enclosed private room-vet private. The menu features all the traditional fare from steaks to fish. Having been disappointed by the lake fish fry on my first visit, I opted for the 8 0z. Tenderloin steak this time which was cooked to perfection. Entries come with a side-baked potato or wedges (steak fries) and a house salad with choice of dressing. At $48 this was a pretty good value. Be sure to try the cheese curds served with ranch dressing and you must save room for an ice cream drink-grasshopper, brandy Alexander, Cadillac or pink squirrel to finish things off. Service was a bit leisurely but as it was storming outside on our most recent visit,, we weren't in any hurry. The do take reservations if you call, but note like many spots like this the crowd tends to favor the early time like 5 or 5:30. We dined at 7 on both visits and were one of the last people there when we left around 8:30. A nice spot for a traditional Wisconsin dining experience. read more

Most Wisconsin supper clubs feature relish trays, dinner rolls or some kind of complementary first course. Nothing like that here. Disappointing. A very cute lakefront restaurant that serves quality food. Everything was delicious, the lamb was the best. Our waitress was very funny and nice even when I accidentally tipped the wrong amount and had to redo the transaction. read more

We enjoyed our visit. Both of us had the whitefish fish fry. It was generous and excellent as were all of the sides. Everyone on the staff was cordial and most helpful. The Edgewater is a charming place with outstanding prime rib on Saturdays. We had a marvelous dinner and the views of the river are beautiful. We all thought our waiter was outstanding, too. Our one concern, and for our group it was a major one, is that we were told the place was ADA compliant, and it was far from it. A member of our party had to be carried to two areas to get in and out. A portable ramp would do this place a lot of good. We felt a bit deceived. read more

Two thumbs down for The Edgewater Supper Club this evening. After spending several hundred dollars in fuel for our airplane to fly to the Edgewater for dinner, fully expecting a great experience as we have had in the past, tonight we were greeted with a hostess who seemed to be on some sort of power trip and refused to seat us, despite about 2/3rds of the tables being vacant. She hummed and hawed and made us stand around for 15 minutes, then announced it might be another 10 minutes, maybe longer, she didn't really know. Finally, we had enough and walked out and the Edgewater lost two good customers and all of the goodwill we have brought them over the years. There are so many great restaurants out there who are literally dying for business, that there is no need for this sort of behavior toward paying customers. It's one thing if the restaurant was full with a long line out the door, but another thing entirely when we are standing around looking at a majority of the tables empty and being unable to be seated. Oh well....live and learn. A restaurant can have hundreds of good reviews, but bad service will always catch up to them. If good service is of value to you, recommend you take your dinner plans elsewhere. read more

We have been hearing about The Edgewater for a while now, and decided to finally try it. It looks like a dive bar in the middle of nowhere, but when you get inside, it's like you stepped into a cave. Cute and cozy bar area, and they do take reservations! We checked in and were seated a short time later. We were lead into a gorgeous dining area with low ceilings, and were seated on the patio. This is the funnest spot, but not for the easily motion sick. Everything is leaning, they even get glasses that have an angled base to compensate. Makes for a fun experience! We had a fun server who didn't mind our questions or repeating a special item. There were four of us, and none of us had one bad thing to say about our food. We had deep fried shrimp with a loaded baked potato, bone in filet with a loaded baked potato, regular filet with a baked, and the catch of the day with homemade broasted potatoes. So delicious! The salads were amazing too! The Cesar comes with little Raviolis instead of croutons, and we tried their spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette; which had SO much flavor! The prices are competitive for a great steak, but just be prepared to spend around $75-$100 per couple. We will definitely be back! read more

Cool place inside, very eclectic. Food not great and overpriced. Ordered porterhouse special but had no idea it was $69. Ordered medium, charred black on outside raw inside. Same with salmon, $30 was charred and hard outside and raw inside. Had a pecan butter on top that was so salty I had to scrap off. Mentioned to the owner and was told they could cook it longer but it was already burned on outside. Salad was different, not in a good way as it was mixed with cole slaw mix and chopped cabbage which gave it an odd flavor. Dinner rolls were good so we ordered some more since we got 1 each but then was charged on our bill $5 for extra bread. Crème brûlée and drinks were good. As a small town boy raised in the Northwoods of Wisconsin I've been through the doors of many of the finest Supper Clubs in the state and must say, The Edgewater is number one in my book. This place is a pure vintage roadside Wisconsin Supper Club. Don't be fooled by the outside, shut your phone off, go inside and enter a world of days gone by. The bartender is on point serving up hand crafted cocktails, he even brews his own beer and offers it on tap. The dining room is very cozy and is my favorite spot but, many folks prefer the four season porch overlooking the mighty Rock River. The food is superb. Nice salads, good soups, and fresh bread come with your meal. The Saturday night prime rib is great, as is their Friday night fish selections. There are other specials that are dynamite such as their roasted duck. The service is incredible- very attentive and delightful. Before you visit another $$$ restaurant in Madison or Milwaukee wash up your favorite vehicle, grab a companion and make the drive to the Edgewater and you will not be disappointed. Reservations are accepted and recommend calling ahead. They also now take credit/ debit cards. read more

This place is perfection. Walking in feels like visiting grandpa's basement... if your grandpa was a super swanky guy who ran a supper club in the 70s. The drinks are well made. The service is authentic and friendly. The atmosphere is accidentally kitschy-hip. The food is of the same caliber of many high end restaurants and priced very fairly. I honestly cannot believe this place is not packed nightly. It's pure supper club perfection. I would move here if they had a spare bed. Friendly owners and staff who are happy to talk to new comers about the history of the building and restaurant...which is more than 100 years and storied. Well once again I find myself in one of my favorite environments, a supper club. This one comes with all the great history you would want. Great back story tied to prohibition. Let's start with a few negatives. Parking lot is small and so is the restaurant. I hope you're not tall. If you're over 6 ft. you will likely bump your head on things. Positives, just about everything else. Although small, very cozy dining room. Drinks; had the classic, brandy old fashioned sweet. Excellent and just $5. Staff, very friendly and professional. Very limited menu but I'm ok with that. I ordered the prime rib special. I'm not a big fan of prime rib. Too much fat to deal with but I enjoy the taste. Taste wise, this did not disappoint. Came with choice of potato and soup or salad. I took the potato wedges and the blue cheese wedge salad. Love a wedge salad. Is it cheap? We stopped here on our way home from Milwaukee back to Madison. What a quaint little spot. The front door is very nondescript and really is the front door. Very little parking, but once you get inside, quiet and cozy. You have to walk through a small bar to get to the hostess. I'm pretty sure the owner was running the hostess stand the night we were there. She did ask if we had reservations, but we did not. She didn't like my attempt at being funny about "needing" them. They sat us at a nice table in what I would call their main dining room. We had the walleye, prime rib and baked cod. All were wonderfully prepared. I wasn't a fan of their potato wedges, but they are still good. What was amazing was their desserts. We had the crime brûlée and the cheesecake. All desserts are homemade and incredible. I must say I have never written a restaurant review before but my experience was so bad I feel I have to warn people not to waste your money here. We were literally the first people to walk into the restaurant and the hostess made us feel horrible for not making a reservation so we had to wait 45 minutes to get a seat. The bread was good - that was the best thing about the meal. The place is a dive bar. I don't mind dive bars if the food is good, but the food is not and is WAY overpriced. $45 for a burned rib eye that was raw in the middle (ordered medium rare), the salad was wet and soggy with one tomato, the baked potato was tiny, and the two sodas we bought were $4 each and not even filled to the top. Four dollars for a soda? The potato wedges are just leftover baked potatoes and were terrible. They make tons of money here with their overpriced food but obviously don't put it back into the building. It doesn't look like the decor has been touched in decades. Overgrown weeds outside their doors. ugh. Never again. Please don't waste your hard earned money at this place. read more
