Underwhelming is how I'd describe this unfortunate find. My husband and I have had Thai food, authentic Thai food in NYC and this place doesn't hold a candle. After reading the reviews and making a special trip to this restaurant, we were sorely disappointed in their soups and thai basil entree. The restaurant also charges extra for brown rice. The service was lacking--because water glasses were not refilled and they could not deliver two dishes at the same time. The only time service came quickly was when they thought the payment was ready. Needless to say, we will never return to this underwhelimg place that has the nerve to call itself a Thai restaurant. read more

Ploy Thai is truly a hidden gem. The atmosphere is great, the staff is very courteous, great service and prices. My wife and I always order the sexy man roll. We want to try other items; however, this roll is SO good that we're afraid we may regret NOT ordering this roll. :) Anyway, if you are looking for a GREAT sushi place in Riverview/Brandon area, give Ploy Thai a try...you won't be disappointed! read more

I love Thai food, and had never tried this place before, so I thought I'd give them a go. I ordered my favorite Thai dish (Chicken Pad Thai) and figured even if it wasn't the best, how can you go wrong with Pad Thai? Well, apparently you can go really wrong with Pad Thai. I should have read the reviews before trying this place - a past reviewer mentioned that the Pad Thai "smelled like a wet dog and tasted even worse" and I'd have to say, that's a pretty accurate description. It smelled heinous and tasted gross. The texture of the noodles and sauce was all wrong, sticky and slimy. I don't know if it even contained any tamarind, and I DEFINITELY didn't see any peanuts in there. My boyfriend and I were going to share an entree for dinner, but we couldn't even finish 1/4 of the meal together - it was that bad. I rarely wish I could get my money back for a meal, but this is one of the few times where I was really upset and wished I could get a refund. There are tons of way better Thai places in the area, and while we all have our favorites, this place isn't even worth giving a try in my opinion. read more

Was not happy with the last sushi place I tried. So I ended up here. I came in between lunch and dinner. Staff was friendly. Ordered sashimi sampler and eel sushi. While I waited the staff was friendly and talkative. This was a takeout order so I didn't wait long. When I got home the presentation was great and the sashimi and eel were delicious. Went back a few days later and go the sashimi dinner sampler and eel sushi to go. Was directed to the bar and got to know the sushi chef. Got home and the presentation and variety of sashimi was excellent. It was just as good as the last time I was there. I forgot to mention that while waiting I tried some oysters. Yummy. A few days later ( do you see a pattern here) I decided to have lunch. I sat in the bar and said hi to the staff. They are always friendly and attentive. I ordered the, you guessed it, sashimi sampler and eel ( I know what I like). It was the same thing. Excellent! read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ploy Thai. We started with a wonderful chicken sate. The meat was moist, tender and flavorful. The cucumber and peanut dips were scrumptious. The complimentary soup and egg roll were also quite good. My husband ordered pork fried rice - he can't handle spicy and it was a challenge to get him into a Thai restaurant. He loved it. I had ginger chicken, mild. It was wonderful. I love ginger and you could taste the flavor in every awesome morsel. I even got my husband to try it on his pork fried rice. He loved it!!!! Best Shusi & Thai by far. We have been to all most every Shusi bar in the Tampa area and Ploy Thai has them beat hands down.

Best crispy duck in the Tampa Bay Area. This place is small but it's nice and cozy, also very romantic. The service is wonderful and the food prices are decent. If you go during lunch they have a very nice lunch menu that includes an appetizer, soup and your entrée. This is a must try restaurant. read more

By far the best Thai food in town. Service is wonderful and the decor is very authentic. I spent a lot of time in Thailand as a kid, and this place always makes me feel like I'm back there. It's much cheaper at lunch, so I'd recommend going before 2:30. My favorite is the garden vegetable fried rice with chicken, but pretty much everything there is good. read more

We have been going to Ploy Thai for years...it has never disappointed us in food or service. However, when we went for lunch this past week, I have to say we were extremely disappointed in the atmosphere. They have opened a sushi bar in the adjoining store and you now have access to the sushi bar through the restaurant. I have to say this is a huge disappointment because we feel it definitely takes away from the coziness and intimacy of the restaurant. The servers have also changed their outfits which now are not as bright and colorful as the original ones. While the food is still great, we enjoyed the intimacy and charming atmosphere the restaurant offered. We feel the sushi bar has diminished the authenticity of the restaurant and this is one one the main reasons we would dine at Ploy Thai. We will continue to dine there...just not as often...it doesn't feel as special any longer. I gave a 5 star rating based on the food only...not the atmosphere. read more
