I said that lack of professionalism was distressing, I was taking time off work for this appt. and I'd be deducting the value of my time from their bill. They objected, saying they HAD apologized. I said waving it off with a brief 'sorry' was insufficient. They canceled the appointment.

We originally called Detemple on an emergency basis and agreed to an overtime rate. It turns out…read morethat the clock starts ticking from wherever that plumber happens to be when they get the dispatch call. So it is more than just the time spent working. We didn't know this until billed a month later. We mistakenly opted to hire Detemple on a time and materials basis to install a new hot water heater. They knew in advance what model it would be yet showed up without numerous parts to complete the job. Those parts purchsed nearby that day were then marked up 300% which they later explained to me is"well within the industry standard." We were also billed for the plumber's brief lunch and the time it took him to write up the job. The opaque billing practices of Detemple plumbing remind me of a used car dealership. My advice is to get a not-to-exceed price before working with these folks.

We asked Nick to come out and give us a quote to replace a macerating toilet with an actual…read morenot-disgusting, working toilet. This involved cutting into a wall and then into concrete in the basement below the bathroom to run a sewer pipe (the old pipe from the macerating toilet was zip-tied to the wall in the basement). Nick was very responsive to email and text messages and kept us in the loop at all times, which is one of the reasons we ultimately hired him. He always let us know his ETA whether it was arrival for the initial estimate or the work that needed to be done. He listened to our somewhat uninformed ideas about what we wanted to do, and gave us reasoned options backed up by years of experience. We were very happy with the plumbing work completed (Nick made sure to clean his area each day he was here and brought his own drop cloths to protect the floors) and it was obvious he knows his trade. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, we liked having Nick at the house. He's very personable and friendly, and as an added bonus, our dog loved him (and vice versa). We plan to ask Nick to do some additional plumbing work in the basement bathroom once we get our act together.

Incompetent and dishonest…read more I hired Wolcott Electrical to trouble-shoot and replace a malfunctioning smoke detection system in my home. They analyzed the already-installed electrical system and gave it a clean bill of health, then installed an entirely new set of smoke detectors, five hardwired Kidde off-the-shelf smoke/carbon monoxide units. My primary requirement for the new system was that, owing to my house having high ceilings, I needed something that could be turned off remotely in case of a false alarm and not ones that required you to physically press any reset buttons on the installed units themselves. Within two weeks, one unit within the newly installed system malfunctioned and sounded a short (but extremely loud) false alarm late at night. They sent out their technician the next day, who could still find nothing wrong with either the electrical system or with their newly installed units. Six weeks later, the entire system (all five detectors) failed for a second time, this time issuing 16 separate false alarms from all over the house between 6:37am and 6:58am in the morning. At this time it also became apparent that there was no way to deactivate the system except by physically pressing a reset button on a detector; that is, the critical requirement of being able the turn the system off from floor level had not been met. Given that they had examined the electrical system three times and could find nothing wrong with it, that they could provide no explanation for why their units were issuing repeated false alarms, and that they therefore had no way to prevent the problem from re-occurring in the future, I instructed them to remove the malfunctioning detectors from my house. Their offer to make good on this completely botched job, which had failed twice in only eight weeks and which they were unable to repair, was to refund one-half of the $1,629.00 they had already charged me, leaving me out $814.50 and with no smoke detection system. They justified this theft by now claiming that the electrical system in my house, which they had examined and passed three times, was responsible for the failures. And then to add insult to injury, when their meager refund showed up on my credit card statement a few days later, they shorted me on even the 50% refund, crediting me with only $773.39. I am investigating pursuing legal action. DO NOT HIRE.

The technician removed a short section of copper pipe, connected a short section of PEX pipe to the existing plumbing, installed a new angle stop and supply line, and tested for leaks. The total charge for this repair was $1,204.47. After reviewing the invoice and speaking with other plumbers, we learned that this type of repair typically costs a few hundred dollars, even accounting for a service call. Jonathan explained that Apollo operates on flat-rate pricing. He first presented a $13,000 plumbing replacement option, which did not seem relevant to the emergency repair we had requested to restore water service. He also offered a membership plan. The invoice lists a flat-rate package titled "Repair 1/2" Copper Pipe up to 10'." In reality, only a short section of pipe was removed and replaced with PEX. While the repair restored water to the house, the price felt extremely high relative to the scope of work performed. I recommend homeowners get multiple quotes before approving work, especially for emergency repairs.

Suddenly, without much warning, we had no water one morning. Nothing. Nada. Zip. 'A'ole. This is not good news for people who depend on well water like we do. Before 8 a.m. I called Steve's Pump Service; we'd had them out here years and years ago. We knew our well pump was bad; it was original with the house, which was built in 1966 and I knew it could go any time. Actually, I figured we were overdue. Steve told me he'd have someone out by 11 a.m., and he was true to his word. Jason, his son, arrived promptly and went right to work. He discovered a couple of different problems with it, but got the pump running again. The problem was that we had no idea how long the pump would last since it was so old. It could be years, it could be a day. In the end, we decided to replace it. Another huge expense we weren't planning on! It took several hours, but ultimately we got the new pump put in. It was a fascinating process to watch. These guys really earn their money, let me tell you! Jason was on the ground, then hopping up onto the truck, then down again, wrapping pipe to pull it all up, wrapping pipe to put it all down again. I was really glad it was a cool day, and not raining. Talk about hard, dirty, exhausting work!. This is no sitting behind a desk job. Jason has been helping his Dad since he was a boy, and knew what he was doing. Through it all, he and his partner were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They made sure we didn't have to stay without water, installed the new pump quickly and efficiently (even though we weren't on their schedule for the day), and cleaned up after themselves. In the Winter of 2024 we had 2 big fir trees fall on our house. We used our rebuilding contractors…read moreheating subcontractor which was Abvanced Heating and A/C. They did the retrofit of our heating system. Prior to the tree falling on our house the furnace was located in the attic which made servicing and repairing it a pain. We had the furnace relocated to the garage and Advanced Heating performed all of the work from designing and installing the new supply and return ducts throughout the house to installing a new furnace in the garage. The point man was Greg and he was easy to get a hold of and talk to when I had questions and needed more information about the furnace that we were having them install. They did a great job with the installation, when we fired up the furnace for the first time there were a couple of problems but they were quick to come out and take care of it. Since Advanced Heating installed the furnace I plan on having them service it. I can't speak for others but my experience with Advanced Heating has been easy and worry free. I would recommend them.

I want every consumer reading this review to be aware and do your research. There are good small business out there that are honest and deserve your business.
