Dinner with a friend and had a good experience overall. This is more of a standard American-style Mexican spot rather than an authentic one, but the food was enjoyable and did what it needed to be done. Everything came out fast with very little wait, which was a plus, especially since the place started getting busy while we were eating. The restaurant itself was very clean and had plenty of seating. While Bradenton has a lot of more authentic Mexican options, this is still a reliable choice if you want something familiar and easy. I'd come back again depending on the mood. read more

We wont be going back. The food and drinks are good but they bring you a small grab bowl not quite 2/3 way full of salsa and chips. They do not bring you any salsa with whatever meal you get and if you need more salsa to go with your meal they charge you 75 cents per bowl. Total ripoff. You spend close to $20 for a meal and they wont give you salsa to go with it. We wont be going back. While in this area, Yelp recommended Poblanos to me. The establishment had a pleasant atmosphere, and the younger servers were notably efficient. I began with an order of guacamole and chips, which, not tableside but a side order was an ideal starter. This was followed by a fresh taco salad served in a flavorful flour tortilla shell. I had driven past this restaurant many times, and I finally decided to try it. And I am glad I did! Pros: -Free chips and salsa IMMEDIATELY when you sit down -A 3-choice combination platter (with sides) only costs $16 -They have happy hour every day from 3-7pm. My house margarita on a Sunday was only $5! -They were accommodating with my dietary needs. -The horchata (which is HUGE) is very authentic-tasting and is also included in happy hour -The portion sizes are very good, and you can easily have leftovers. Cons: -You have to pay for extra chips and salsa. -The side of seasonal vegetables is FOUR pieces: one piece of zucchini, one piece of yellow squash, and two pieced of bell pepper. Poblano's is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The Mexican tiles throughout the restaurant are lovely as is the Mexican wall decor. There is plenty of indoor seating, tables, booths and bar seating making it perfect for intimate dining or for groups. There is also outside patio dining with beautiful plantings, a waterfall for ambience, fans for the summertime and patio heaters for the winter. Our dishes are always served quickly, hot and fresh with beautiful presentation. The chips and salsa are the best in the area and their tableside guacamole is freshly made to order perfection every time. We've been coming to Poblanos for several years. Initially we were big fans. After they updated the inside we were even more excited. Unfortunately the last two times have been a bitter disappointment. On Sunday November 16th we invited a good friend to join us. I ordered QUESO Dip for the table. It never showed up & it appeared on the bill. My wife & I ordered Quesadillas with two sides for our entree. When the plates arrived the portion size of the quesadilla was like ordering a kids meal. Our go-to Mexican spot. Authentic, quick, innovative menu items and always great service. They have free chips and salsa with free chips refills! So you know it's good food when they do that, haha. If you ask for their hottest salsa, it's actually really spicy and delicious. We usually mix it with their mild one to give it a little kick. Had quesabirria tacos this time and they were good but a bit greasy for me so I wouldn't get them again but glad I tried them. Poblano's is our only choice for Mexican food (Tex-Mex, if we're being honest) in the Palmetto/Bradenton area. Service and food are always consistently above average, and we never regret splurging for one of their huge margaritas! Fresh ingredients, including the on the spot guacamole, which was really fresh and really was fantastic. Chips and salsa were served with every meal. Chips are warm. What an adorable restaurant! Very well staffed and the team worked hard to please the guests. We chose the pick two entrees. We had a beef burrito.. small but excellent! With the burrito a tostado, black beans and Mexican rice. All great. The other entree was fish tacos. Very nice representation. This is another one and done. We had high hopes and had been wanting to visit for a while but we have found another Mexican restaurant that we do really like but just wanted to change it up and see if we were missing something. That answered is a definitive NOPE! We were quickly seated and served chips and salsa with the waitress coming over in a few seconds later advising us it was happy hour so we ordered our mango margaritas. Not sure what tequila used but the drink had a smoky taste. It was fine for the price $6. Next we ordered the pollo Picasso as it was a special. Not sure why since it was the same price as the menu but it sounds tasty along with two ground beef burritos. Food did come promptly and hot but that was the end of the good expectations. The two burritos looked great but lacked taste. No seasoning used on the beef. This was puzzling since what is the point of no seasoning. This is a Mexican restaurant and it is expected to have flavor. I honestly think that most Mexican restaurants are afraid if they use spices that it would be too much for most people's pallet. This is soooo disappointing. Next the Picasso or Fiasco as it only had a few pieces of chicken covered is onions with a watery cheese sauce. This could have been due to the onions cooking out but again no flavor. Overall this was such a disappointment. This will be a one and done since we do have a place that is pretty good that we do go to. read more

Best part of dinner was our friends. Service was super slow. Wait staff were standing around talking with each other. A member of our party actually got up and interrupted the staff and asked if we could get service. Another time to ask for water. My meal was tough. Chicken quesadilla had lots of grizzle to cut thru. My husband dinner said the ground beef enchilada was good. Other enchiladas were just okay. We've been here before the same as our friends. I came here for mole and the reviews were very favorable. I had the Mole Poblano. It was good with a little kick but not great. One of our usual go to spots. They have a wide variety of Tex Mex dishes with everything from the bland palate to the more adventurous including a children's menu for the very picky if needed. I don't usually order drinks here so I can't comment on that. Always clean, recently remodeled with cute decor, IG worthy. Bathrooms could use some minor repairs. Funny story. I have a friend who belives that her few years in Texas makes her an Mexican and Tex-Mex food. We have eaten at a few places in the area and they have been fine. She called and asked if I wanted to go to Poblano's. She had gone with her mom and said "the only people that won't like this place are those that don't really know what Mexican food is". Now, also having lived in Texas, having eaten authentic Mexican food in multiple states, I would say my breath of Mexican food knowldge is greater than most, but clearly I am no expert. Okay, so Saturday night we went to Poblano's. Let me sum this up as easy as possible: 100% flavor free. I am watching my weight, so I had a simple taco salad, with beef. The finely ground grayish mush that was supposed to be beef had no flavor, not even salt. I would imagine that it had the same flavor as a Mariachi's vihuela. If you are asking, no I didn't complain, I didn't talk to a manager and I didn't send it back. Why? Because it just seemed to be how they cooked. The presentation was fine. Based on their guacamole and sour cream toppings it seemed that they were put on with an eye droper. The chips were okay, the salsa runny and lacking any real spice. I know that not every meal or dish uses any or all of the 64 different varieties of pepers grown in Mexico, but the food didn't include any of the 4 varieties carried at your local Publix. Even my friend, the "expert" couldn't justify the meal as being anything close to Mexican or Tex-Mex. This was clearly Florida-Mexican cooked by an Englishman line cook trained in the fine art of cooking with vegimite and spam. Although we ate everything (being darn hungry will do that) even the waiter didn't bother asking as how everything was when he gave us our bill; something told me that he knew exactly how everything was even though nothing was said to him and we didn't discuss our meals until we left. Would I go back. Honestly? Nope. The service was a nice fellow, did a solid job. The hostess that seated us was kind. The menu looked like and offered the typical Mexican template. (I hope the person that wrote the very first Mexican resturant menu gets residules as every single Mexican place seems to use the exact same menu) Just because I wouldn't go back doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. If you want to go, go. I hope you have a great meal, a wonderful experince and become a regular if that is what you want. For me, just to many resturants in the world to frequent those that are less than. Oh, Starting 9.1.2024 it's $1.99 for "more chips and salsa". Not a big deal, but wanted to share. I am sure it is being done to off set the money lost on "one beer and 4 basket of chips" customers and the money lost in appetizer sales because people fill up on the free chips.
