We came here on Friday for lunch and ordered three Laos-style dishes. Everything was excellent--very authentic flavors and great service.

I have been told multiple times that I needed to try Zaap Lai and finally did it this week. Everything we got was delicious and I know I'll be craving more of it in upcoming weeks. Highly recommend giving Zaap Lai a try!

So happy to find a restaurant that serves delicious Thai dishes! The establishment can seat 30 people maybe more; we visited on a Sunday afternoon and there were a couple of large parties dining. There were also several patrons who were placing to-go orders. This looked like the place to be. There was one young lady managing the front of the house, sitting patrons, taking orders - to go and for sit downs, prepping the tab, bringing out orders; it was definitely a lot for her to handle, but she managed well. Our orders came out very quickly and my did it taste so delicious! We had missed Thai cuisine since moving to the area, and we are very happy to have come across Zaap Lai. I'm looking forward to returning here and trying more from their menu.

Zaap Lai is a good Thai restaurant. It's a relatively small restaurant in a shopping center, but there are several seats available so you can dine in. The night we went, they were really busy and a little short-staffed, but they handled it pretty well. The call-in orders were also really heavy with lots of people picking up to-go orders. We ordered Basil Fried Rice and Chicken Tandoori. The Chicken Tandoori was really good and had good flavor. The peanut dipping sauce was also good. The Basil Fried Rice was good, but it could have used a little more flavor, and the rice was a little overcooked. Overall, I thought Zaap Lai was good. I give it a 7/10.

SUPER delicious. Insanely fast, hot, and fresh food. Hands down the best crab rangoons I've had in my life. Hurts your heart to know you can't go every day if you stop while passing through the area. 10/10 debating moving just to eat here weekly.

We are quite versed in Thai cuisine,…read morehave only become interested in Vietnamese cuisine in the past few years, but are completely ignorant of Lao food. The portion sizes here are huge! Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently.

Service was amazing and food was even better. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had.read more

Good thing I took a picture of my receipt when I had written the tip very clearly. The restaurant decided to instead change the tip and put whatever they wanted. This is fraudulent and is being reported to the appropriate institution. Original: Good food, decent service, decent atmosphere. To start off, food is actually pretty good! Vegetable spring rolls are crispy and tasty, however the duck sauce that it is served with is a little weird. It is not sweet like any other restaurant. They also have a decent hot and sour soup, however, the real star is their tom kaa soup (coconut soup). That soup is really flavorful and is great with steamed tofu. I also should suggest asking for the spice rack so that you can add a little spice to the soup. Make sure to get the spicy basil fried rice. This is really flavorful, and we got it hot (on their spice scale). This was a real stand out. We also got the pad Thai noodle dish which was pretty good. I do think the restaurant could've done a little bit more to make the dish flavorful, as the noodles were definitely on the lighter side for taste, and they were also clumped into one big mound. Lastly, we got the yellow curry with steamed tofu. This was pretty nice and mildly spiced. Big chunks of potato, pineapple, and bamboo shoots are the default vegetables in the curry. The restaurant is able to make many dishes either gluten-free or vegan. If you have either of these dietary restrictions, definitely check with the staff as they are able to accommodate. Now, service was OK. We were only checked on one time during our meal, and we had to keep getting the attention of the staff to provide us with extra utensils or bowls/plates. Our waters were left empty for a decent amount of time, and it seemed like staff were indifferent. This wouldn't be the worst, however, the restaurant default forces a 20% tip on groups of six or more. As we fell under that, I expected better service. Please also be aware that the restaurant forces a 3% surcharge for credit cards. This is a little disappointing as most credit card assures charge restaurants less than 3% for a transaction fee, so this restaurant is just passing on more fees to the customer, even more than what some credit card companies add. So just be prepared if you come as a party of six to pay an extra 23% on top of your bill (20% mandatory gratuity and 3% credit card fee).

A dish that clearly advertises various vegetables came out as mostly noodles with barely any vegetables at all, and another dish was lacking in flavor. For the price, the value just wasn't there. We're not looking for any sort or compensation. We are just hoping to give others a heads-up, because we would've wanted the same. We were looking forward to a wonderful spicy dish with lots of vegetables and then got this. It was just so disappointing.

Everyone at our table received their food in a timely manner--except me. I ordered the hamachi kama and was told it would take about 20 minutes to bake, which I was completely fine with. However, after waiting... and waiting... and watching my entire family finish their meals, we were then told my order had been messed up because the restaurant got backed up and busy and would take another 10-15 minutes. At that point, nearly everyone was done eating, so I asked for my meal to be boxed to-go. We spoke with a manager, Chris, who apologized and told us the meal would be comped--which felt like an appropriate resolution given the situation. But after sitting there for almost TWO HOURS total, my husband and son went to follow up, only to be told that my order had been completely canceled. The reasoning? That they "weren't going to comp something and let you walk out with free food." That response was honestly shocking. I never asked for anything extra--just the meal I ordered, even if it had to be to-go at that point. Instead, I left without eating at all. The lack of communication, the excessive wait, and the way the situation was handled at the end completely ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory night. Really disappointing experience. We didn't even want to order the desserts we planned on ordering because at that point, they didn't deserve another dollar. The environment would've been enjoyable if we weren't focused on food missing and the lack of customer service.

The restaurant and staff were typical Chinese vibe. I'll be honest, coming from NY, my expectations weren't high. I didn't even take pictures at first because I assumed there wouldn't be a review (and I usually won't post a negative one). When I tell you SHOCKED isn't even a strong enough word... I'm not kidding. We didn't want leftovers, so we ordered a few things to share. They brought kimchi and pickled cucumbers to the table. I'm not even a kimchi person, but this one was delicious; and the sweet, tangy cucumbers were fantastic. Wonton soup is always my barometer for good Chinese food. The broth was flavorful with just a little kick. The wontons were plump with filling and had a super thin wrapper-absolutely delicious. We tried both the egg roll and the spring roll-both spot on. The duck sauce and Chinese mustard were excellent too. For our main, we ordered General Tso's chicken (mild spice) with white rice. First of all... the platter was HUGE. Aside from being slightly spicier than I personally prefer, it was AMAZING. And yes...WHITE MEAT CHICKEN! Big chunks of juicy, crunchy chicken, large slices of onion (which I love), pieces of pepper, and a delicious sauce that coated everything perfectly. Halfway through the meal I realized I HAD to take a picture because this review was happening. This wasn't "good for Tennessee." This was genuinely DELICIOUS Chinese food. Yong Asian House-BRAVO!
