We love poison ivy for its Bloody Marys. It's hard to find a real fun bloody in town and Posion ivy does it right. The food in general is really good. I've tried the burgers and had no complaints. The Ruben was my favorite. I would say for the area it's slightly more elevated. I think when I saw the word "pub" in the name I was initially expecting a dive bar but it's very nice inside. I went there with friends to unwind after work and when you sit in the bar, there are about 25 seats it appears . The owners or manager or whomever it was took up about four seats with backpacks and purses and laptops, conducted bar business, talked in depth about barn staffing, discussed scheduling and really should have done this elsewhere -when you have a full bar of patrons whom are trying to unwind after work - it stressed me out. We will keep going there as we are hopeful, this is a great local place and note the bartender was fantastic, Scott.- he's been there for a long time and he used to work under the previous ownership, it was great to see him there as he's very customer service driven. read more

I like this place and have good memories from going when back from college. The food was always delicious and I appreciated that they had live music/ a more lively atmosphere. Service I remember was pretty typical. Nothing incredible, but decent. I will definitely be going again at some point. She cleared the area where I sat at the bar so between me saying Hi and her clearing the area there is now way she did not see me. She severed the couple that came in right behind me. A much more elevated experience than we expected for Roscoe, both for beer and food. Pleasant decor, and a fun inside+outside vibe when nice weather lets them leave the big rolling doors open. Since Poison Ivy was bought by new owners we thought we would give it a shot. It was not busy. First thing, we sat at a table, we ordered our drinks one drink came quick the second drink I had to remind the server and she said the bartender was still making after waiting 20 minutes. With that we decided to split an appetizer (honey garlic wing 8 ct) and a Caesar salad w/chicken. Both horrible. The server never stopped back at the table to check if we needed anything. We did not finish the salad or the wings. The waitress came to clear the plates and give the check and did not ask how it was and was not friendly at all. The best thing about this place was the guy playing guitar and singing and the atmosphere is nice. We will never go back. Yuck. read more

I used to love this place. In the past couple of years it has just gonna further and further down hill. I moved to Roscoe in 2013 and it was a popular place with awesome food. The service is absolutely horrible and they recently changed their menu and it's very basic and unimpressive. The only good thing is I love their recent remodel and the outdoor space is great. I read on Poison Ivy"s facebook page, "new menu." The Iowa Pork Tenderloin is the same as what I was used to growing up, so I had to try. I recommend this to you. We were greeted as we walked in, and the waitress was so nice. She got our order and we just relaxed while waiting. The menu had great selections of salads, burgers, and a great choice of appetizers. We knew what we wanted and forced ourselves not to change our minds. We will return. The waitress asked if we would like some cheesecake for desert. My husband and I both were so full. It sounded so good, but we had to pass on the desert. What a nice spring day to have a great lunch at Poison Ivy Pub in Roscoe IL. Prices were average $12-$16 per person and so worth it. Wow! This might be my second review ever but this one is a must. The service is absolutely horrible. My son and I walked in yesterday Fathers Day to grab a quick lunch. We walked in 3 employees at the bar just looked up at us a couple times but did not say anthing. So I walked up to the bar and asked if we should just seat ourselves? Finally we were acknowledged!! They said yea. We sat down and had to wait for at least 15 min for a server to come to our table. Someone at the bar did yell out to us and said sorry will be right with you. Really there were nobody sitting in the reasturant and maybe 5 people at the bar. I asked what kind of soup they had she said they have French Onion so I ordered that to find out they don'y have that. We both ordered the smashed burger which was horrible. My son ate 2 bits of the burger and she asked if he wanted a box to take it home and he said "NOPE" The server should have comped that meal and she did not!! They had nothing at the table no salt or pepper no silverware and napkins. I had to ask for napkins after our food came to the table. The service and the food suck and I will never be back at this establishment. Paid over $50 for the worst experience. My 11 year old son said to me as we were waiting for service that his mom took him there about 2 years ago and they walked out because they were waiting for a server to approached them. A must try! We are new to the area and are struggling to find a "good" place to eat. And by good I mean something that is not far with delicious food, excellent service and a warming, inviting and moderen atmosphere. So, this is it. We had the manager/supervisor servicing us and he was FANTASTIC! Extremely welcoming, very chatty, asked us if we've been there before, told us all about the menu and made some recommendations. He was fabulous. The food was delicious. I get tired of the same options at every restaurant. No one dares to be different but this place takes a chance. I had a sandwich with grilled peaches and prosciutto and a mac and cheese with a little hot chili/jalapeño in it. WOW!! So tasty and an exciting combination. The place is clean and beautiful inside. Very moderen with Cubs/sports memorabilia and several TVs with sports playing. This place has a nice big bar to hang out in. We didn't sit outside but did walk around after lunch and I can say I can't wait to go back and enjoy lunch outside. We took pictures by the ivy wall outside and admired their plants. We will definitely be back! Couple things to note. This place is not "cheap". But, if you want a good place like this you kind of have to pay for it. Like the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." The other thing is after the manager took care of us we later had a waitress who was less then eager to "serve". She barely spoke, never came back for refills. I had to wave her down for help at times. But, that's minor and won't keep me away. I just hope not to get stuck with her next time. Can't wait to return!!! read more

Poison Ivy is a great place for both drinks and food. I have been coming here for about 10 years, and the consistency has been present since day one! Whether you're looking for a place to hang out and have a few drinks after a long and stressful day, or if you're looking for a nice and intimate space to have a decently good meal at, Poison Ivy is ALWAYS a great choice. The owner is very friendly. When he is not helping out in the kitchen, he is at the bar talking with his customers. I have had the opportunity to speak with him on many occasions. Sarah, behind the bar, makes some pretty amazing drinks that never disappoint. She is also one of the friendliest and hardest working people that you will meet. They make a very inviting atmosphere that makes it hard for you NOT to want to come back. I've driven an hour on a few occasions just to sit at the bar after a long and stressful day, and Poison Ivy just doesn't miss for me. On the bar function, they get an A+. I can't find anything wrong with the bar. The atmosphere and space is updated and beautiful, the staff is great, the drinks are great.. what more could you want? I also can't necessarily find anything wrong with the kitchen. The food, in my opinion, is worth every penny and leaves me feeling full and satisfied. They have a large menu with a wide range of items, and they also do special meals for holidays. I have came here and dined on Thanksgiving before, and the food that was prepared was just as good as what grandma would make. Who would've thought from a bar? You also may want to make a point to save room for dessert, because they often carry a good variety of cheesecakes. I will note one thing... During these difficult and unprecedented times, staffing and talent retention has been a huge issue for businesses; especially in less populated areas. I really wish that more people would understand this dilemma. I can say that I know Poison Ivy is one of the businesses that have been negatively affected by some of these very common struggles, so please be mindful of this if you are planning on bringing a large amount of covers. If you are considering bringing say 20 people around the time that a bar would typically start to get busy, it would likely be a better idea to buy some place out for the night. Maybe a place with experience handling such parties. Possibly Poison Ivy! Because their food is good. I know for a fact that their front-of-house staff bounces between the bar and dining room, wearing multiple hats, and it is worth noting that a pub will likely push preference towards their bar. Just food for thought if you are planning something as such. I personally have not been affected by the staffing issues. When I come, I feel taken care of by the team always. I have great service, great drinks, great food, and most importantly: a great time. I truly recommend trying out this business if you are in the area :) read more

Food was good but very expensive, service was poor, they weren't busy. They had seating outside, but the restaurant had overhead doors, so even sitting inside you were still exposed to the bugs, diesel exhaust, loud mufflers and all that other crap you didn't want be exposed to by sitting outside. It was chilly outside that evening. We asked if they would close the doors, but they didn't comply. Would I go back? Don't think so. Food Expensive, lousy service! Bloodys & friendly staff - our first time here & they said it's a new menu just out this week. The decor is cute & there are a lot of big tables for groups. Cheese curds & cheese cake were amazing! We were excited to try the bruschetta from old yelp posts however it is gone now - server said they likely will bring back old favorites as a specials in the future. We went for breakfast on Father's Day and were the only ones in the restaurant- ordered at 10:45 and still did not have our food an hour later. I told the waitress we would pay for our sodas but were cancelling our order and leaving. The manager told the waitress to have us pay our full bill without giving us our food and we said no. We were cancelling the order. Our food then suddenly appeared and My husband told the owner to fix the situation and the owner yelled at us and told us he would fix it , grabbed the food and told us to get out and never come back. The building is adorable & we loved the outdoor seating, although it was too breezy to enjoy it this day. The inside is also cute, but a little worn. When we got there the staff advised that they were running slow and behind. We were confused how they could be so behind when only the outdoor patio area was open (due to COVID) and mind you- this is not a huge outdoor patio area. We proceeded to sit down to eat...not expecting it would take TWO hours for 6 tacos. It took 20 minutes to be waited on for a drink and a menu. When we ordered the"$2 Tuesday margarita special" they advised us that this was no longer a special due to "trying to get back on their feet because of the pandemic" (which I understand). Regardless of the margaritas not being on special we still ordered two margaritas. A long while later the 'TINY' margaritas arrived. It was close to 45 minutes until someone came to take our food order. We ordered two orders of tacos (6 tacos total). During our TWO hour wait they brought out two more margaritas (we assumed this was because of the HORRIBLE service) FINALLY, after our stomachs had shrunk and we were about to fall asleep, the tacos arrived!!! Wow I never thought the time would come that out 5 course, gourmet meal (sarcasm) would arrive. I asked one of the waitresses for a side of salsa and she gave me a mean glare, said nothing and then walked away. The chicken tacos were below average and would not order again. We were charged for the two margaritas that we did not order. Bills were not all correct. Couples came, ate, and left while we were ignored. I spoke to the owner at the end and he was rude and unapologetic. Said he would never take such a large reservation again. When we arrived and ordered we had several empty tables around us and the business was not real busy. They filled up after we ordered. Everyone around us, who arrived after us, got their food and some even left before we even got our food. Most of the food was cold when it did come out. How is this place still in business? We decided to give it ONE more chance after having not so good experiences previously. We came in for lunch and drinks and they had a gal taking drink orders and delivered them fairly fast. We ordered a beer and Coke and the Coke came in a screw top plastic bottle (not cold) with a flimsy plastic glass with ice. After being told they were short staffed, no one came back to take our order for over 30 minutes at which time we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. There were 2 tables near us with 6-8 people each that was getting their meals brought out one by one! Also, since the business is completely open, why is everything served on paper plates and plastic utensils? For the price of your food, use a dishwasher!! read more
