What happened to Poke Burrito....? This used to be my favorite poke spot in the city. Kind of a mixed bag experience on my first visit back in years. Granted the last time I went here was in 2019 to their old location just a few blocks up on Lincoln Avenue but it seems they got a corporate makeover after shutting down during the pandemic and rebranding. Maybe they have a new owner...? It's much more spacious and brighter with Herman Miller stool seats, a pinball machine and high ceilings. But with all of these new trendy upgrades it has lost its cozy, relaxing small business neighborhood vibe the old location had IMO. They added bubble tea and Mochi donuts to their menu. They also were playing rap & trap music and I honestly thought I had walked into the wrong place when I went in. Gone are the guys busy behind the counter. You order via an ordering kiosk (they seem to be popular with places cutting down on staff) made by one person behind the counter. My order was made quickly but I'm not really sure about the kiosk ordering system since you need to input your phone number. I ordered my favorite bowl of theirs, Jimmy's Creation. The first time I tried it in 2018 it was so good I nearly skipped out of the place and wanted to eat here everyday. It's still good but the rice is much more sticky, a little too sticky for my liking since I had to break it up into chunks with my chopsticks. The sauce was a bit too sweat also. Was it always this sweat...? A minor issue though based on preference I guess. I would probably return again but probably not go out of my way and trek through a snow storm like I did once years ago. read more

I've been wanting to try this place ever since it opened since I pass by it to get to the train. I had tried the Poke Burrito in the South Loop a number of years ago and was put off by how much of the fish had gristle in it. We got poke takeout from the Northcenter location last night and it was disappointing. Again the fish had quite a bit of gristle in it and didn't seem fresh. The pineapple also didn't seem very fresh. We had hopes it would be our neighborhood poke place, but we'll have to keep looking. read more

Ingredients are fresh and I love the variety of veggies, protein, toppings, and sauces that we can choose. I usually get the medium sized bowl which is just right for me-- not too little, not too much. The presentation of the poke bowls are very pretty and appetizing as well. The poke bowl here is more expensive than Aloha Poke in the Loop by a couple dollars, but this is close to home and if I am craving, this is where I'll go. One thing I don't like is the wasteful thick cardboard order sheet we fill out when selecting our poke bowl ingredients. They should consider thinner paper or have electronic tablets and let people self order and punch in what they want to order to be more environmentally friendly. read more

I've been to poke places in Chicago which is so disappointing compared to places in Los Angeles. However, this place is almost comparable! I love the option of being able to choose on paper as opposed to on a counter with people standing in front of you. I'm very indecisive so this was very helpful when deciding what I wanted and I could take all the time thinking about what I wanted. I got a large and the portions were large, not like other Chicago poke places that claims to be size "large" but it's really not. 1st and foremost- I love the size of the raw fish. The fish were not small squares. It was a good size, that when taking a bite, I know I am eating sashimi. 2nd- (as mentioned, I love the ordering on paper) 3rd- I love the options on the menu. I'm pretty late to the sushi burrito/poke game but I've been officially converted by Poke Burrito and now I can't stop raving about it. This place is worth everyone's time and tastebuds, whether you get delivery or dine-in. Inside is decorated in a minimalistic fashion, very clean and simple. The service isn't as fast as other fast-food burrito places. You basically fill out your order on a piece of paper and wait for a good 5 minutes, even when it's not crowded. However, the best part is customizability of your order. There are so many things you can pick and choose from. They have tofu options too, so it's truly great for vegetarians, vegans and meat lovers. The hype at this five star joint is real, my friends. I've been to a few other poke places and never real had an urge to go back to any. Poke Burrito is a game changer though. Super fresh, flavorful and full! They have an order sheet that you fill out whether you're dining in or taking it to go. It lists the bases, veggies, sauces, proteins, etc and gives you how many items they recommend checking off. Avocado is included in a general portion. My one suggestion would be to have explanations of the sauces. I took a guess and ordered what I thought I would like, but if it was listed on the menu (i.e. volcano sauce is creamy and spicy, etc) that would be useful! While I was there, FIVE different couples came in to order to go and two different couples were dining in. Way more foot traffic and clientele then the old restaurant. I'm so happy for them. Went in on a Saturday afternoon between brewery stops. The place was dead, which I don't care about because I assume a lot of people grab a bowl to go, but I was kind of surprised that no one else came in while we were there. The guy who made my bowl seemed confused, about everything. I'm sure I threw him off a little when I said no rice and no mixed greens (currently can't eat either without potentially getting sick right after), but I tried to add in some other things so that it wasn't just protein. Got a medium/regular bowl with (naked) tuna, (naked) salmon and shrimp for my protein. I also added in avocado and mandarin oranges. I'm pretty sure the ratio of mandarin oranges to protein was the same, which made me laugh. Took it to the 2nd brewery and had some. It was fine. Didn't taste like there was much, if any sauce on it, and all of the little tiny mandarin oranges pretty much started to overwhelm the bowl a couple bites in. The shrimp was kind of meh, but at least the tuna and salmon seemed decent. When I'm in the area and need something, this might be a place I'd go again, but honestly, I'd probably just go up the street and get a taco instead. I love poke bowls. I was going through a phase of ordering them awhile back and had to stop myself because the cost of a bowl + delivery was adding up quickly, but this spot just felt, sad. read more

This place reminds me why the movie the puppet master is a horror film. You will walk up to the empty plastic vestibule to a marionette window to grab your food. There you can choose to grab your food- or whoever's food you want any because no one is there to confirm your order. -if you have any issues you will be in for a long wait for the shop gardener to greet you at the window to tell you they "do good work" and what's in the bag IS right- And will not offer to correct it but then will instead take your food from you and walk away- taunting you to beg for the mis-made order because it took longer for the gardener to show up at the window than it did to make your food. You will either be relegated to begging the shop gardener that it was in-fact your mistake because you spent your whole day off watching iron chef on Netflix and the hunger is really getting to you- hopeful that someone else assembled your fish and rice with gloves on because the amount of dirt under the gardeners nails couldn't be the hands that touched your food right? Was tempted to order the Jimmy bowl based on photos, but I was in a customizing mood, ordered a custom large poke bowl ($12.95) and a sushi burrito ($12.95). Great variety of toppings. Went with the employee's recommendation on sauces. There's a seating area so we dined in instead of doing carryout. Of the two items, the poke bowl easily won. Tasted fresh and delicious. I've ordered from here twice in the past few weeks for takeout and this is my favorite poke bowl place in Chicago! I ordered on Yelp app and the pickup time was short. I loved that once you pick it up they have a no contact pickup window where your order is already packaged with your name so it is easy and safe for takeout. I got a custom bowl and I loved that there is no limit in what you can put in your bowl but I lived how fresh the tuna and salmon was. I really liked the size of the bowl and the sauces. I just moved to Lincoln Square about two months ago and I have been exploring the food options. I have never had a Poke Burrito before so since I was picking up a growler from Half Acre I said "Why not stop by for lunch?" Boy, I am sure glad that I stopped by on a Saturday around 1:30pm. I came during an off hour so there was no one there. But there were a few pickups for delivery. The place was very clean and had a contemporary feel with a decent amount of seating. If you have ever been to Aloha Poke, then Poke Burrito is pretty much the exact same concept. They have some chef creations, but you can also create your own. Take a card and go to work. They have a ton of different ingredients, sauces, and protein choices (up to 3 choices) for customization. The combinations are almost endless. I ended up ordering one with naked salmon and tuna, house sauce, and pretty much the works in regards to ingredients. The burrito took about 10 minutes to make after ordering. The presentation was on point as it was neatly wrapped even with all of the ingredients I had. The burrito is about half the size of Chipotle so the size for normal human beings. Two words can explain the burrito. Fresh and tasty! Like Aloha Poke, the poke was super fresh even with it being Chicago. The Poke were fairly big chunks, which was a pleasant surprise. The flavor packed quite a punch and had a bit of crunch! My burrito fell apart a little bit towards the end as the seaweed wrap is a little thin, but whatever. The only con about Poke Burrito is that, as a bigger guy, the burrito wasn't filling enough to justify the price. I paid about $14-15 for the burrito and to be fair that is a fair price for fresh fish. Just you get more for your money at a Chipotle or with an Aloha Poke bowl. This place is relatively new. I've always wanted to try out a sushi burrito -- the two things I love, combined in one. Setup was pretty straightforward. You get a sheet of paper where you tick-off what you want. Pick your protein, type of wrap, toppings, sauce, hand it over to the cashier, and you're good to go. I ended up getting the burrito with salmon, tuna, and cooked shrimp. Topped it will some tempura crunch, cucumber, regular seaweed paper, and edamame for the extra protein. There's a bar style wall seating along when window, a few couple seats and a couple of booth seating. There was a water container for those who opt for water, or you have your standard choice of pop available as well. Food took about 10-min to get, place wasn't too busy at first. At the day I went, it seemed like there was only one person preparing the food, so I guess I can see why it took somewhat longer to get the food. I got my burrito in a tin tray, inside a plastic basket. The burrito was not super big -- it aint no Chipotle burrito, but was a decent portion, considering that we are talking about sushi after all. The burrito was cut diagonally down the middle. Biting into the burrito, it was easy. I was curious at first because seaweed can be tricky (think of some sushi rolls), and sometimes requires a bite and a tug, with the inside falling apart, but there was no problem here at all. It had the perfect combo of crunch (from the tempura), a decent sized shrimp, and some tuna. The dish also includes some wasabi and soy sauce, which was great. Overall, the sushi burrito definitely lived up to the hype, and I would definitely go get another one. Staff behind the counter was super nice and friendly. BATHROOM REVIEW: Single bathroom coed. This should probably be 3.5 stars--my husband and I decided to try take out for the first time. He got Jimmy's Creation bowl and I decided to order the new Spicy Tuna bowl. The online menu has pictures of all bowls but that one, but it does list the ingredients. When I got mine, the tuna in it wasn't like his or any of the other pictures--it was ground up tuna, so it had a really mushy texture. I was expecting nice cubed fish like all the other bowls. I tried to call the restaurant to see if that was intended, but the man who answered had a very limited grasp of English so he couldn't answer it. I called the South Loop restaurant and asked if it was supposed to be ground up and he said "yes". It also didn't come with sesame seeds, masago, nor green onion like the description said. I will say the flavor of the bowl was good besides the tuna. My husband's bowl was good, but a little bit under seasoned. My suggestion is that they change the description on the website to say GROUND tuna, and to please upload a picture so everyone knows what they're getting. read more

Thats 2 days in a row! I could order it every day in fact. Tips - first online order is 10% off. After you use that coupon, you get one free small poke bowl with any future $20 order. Delivery fee is $3. The most expensive burrito or bowl is $12.95 adding extra meat is $1.75. It's very reasonable considering the fresh ingredients. Marianos would cost way more for the same meal. I feel like poke places are popping up all over the place, and I have no qualms about having one in my hood! This corner spot hits the spot! You can opt from their pre-selected ingredients, or customize a bowl/burrito. We opted for bowls (isn't a poke burrito basically uncut sushi?). I love that you get the choice of three proteins. I opted for the marinated tuna, marinated salmon, and shrimp. I added on a ton of veggies and, quite frankly, don't remember what I all threw in there. I do remember that corn was an option, which isn't something I've seen in other poke places. It was a fresh addition. The portions were large. I went with the large bowl but probably could have gotten away with the regular bowl. The prices are reasonable, in either case. This place is set up more as a stand. You order at the counter and they call your number. No table service and no alcohol options (also doesn't seem to be BYOB). I love the renovations they did to clean it up after the last tenants. It's modern and welcoming. The upside is that the place seems to be getting a fair amount of business, but the downside means that seating is limited. I'll definitely be back! read more

Literally my new favorite Poke place!! I am a huge fan of Aloha Poke but I will now be traveling here to get my Poke fix. Everything was fresh and the order came out pretty quick, definitely less than 10 minutes. Considering every order that goes through the kitchen is different I can appreciate the attention and time needed to make sure each bowl is right since Im sure it can get confusing seeing the same list of stuff over and over. Ive had other Poke places rush and I end up with incorrect toppings. I made my own large bowl (with almost everything lol) and the price is right: $10 for a regular and $13 for a Large. I also like that I get to mark my own order sheet. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back....soon! read more

Oh man. It's finally here--the closest thing we'll ever get to San Fran's Sushirrito. If you're thinking "meh, there are other sushi burrito places in Chicago" you can just miss me with that BS because none of them hold a candle. I love this place. I assumed it would be an order-at-the-counter-type spot with no ambiance, but it's actually super cute and clean af inside! You order by filling out a card and selecting your options. There are TONS of options, and they don't charge extra for multiple sauces or extra veggies, etc. We ordered takeout once and delivery once (violating my lifelong rule of never ordering sushi for delivery). Both times the burrito was FABULOUS. Easily some of the freshest fish I've had in the city. Both the in-store staff and the delivery person were friendly and our orders were perfect both times. Yo. Finally, the perfect lunch spot opens in my work neighborhood. It only took like ten years of North Center being a restaurant wasteland! Better late than never. Plain and simple, this place executes Poke the right way. It is what similar concepts in Chicago have attempted, but never quite nailed. The option of a bowl, salad or burrito is perfect. Sticking with the Chipotle method - smart. I think the most well done aspect of this restaurant is their ingredient selection. They offer sweet and bright fruits like pineapple and mandarin oranges, which is exactly the kick that I like in my Poke creation! I ordered a Poke Burrito with salmon and crab. Two types of fish eggs, some veggies and of course fruit. It was seriously the most delicious poke dish I've had to date. And I am a sushi-poke-anything-asian-but-mostly-japanese-and-hawaiian connoisseur. I eat a LOT of the stuff. I would tell you more but I think it would be better if you came in to try it for yourself. You will not be let down. Give this place your business! It didn't look great or fresh or appetizing. In fact, I really didn't want to eat it at all. My husband felt the same. The lettuce was old and lifeless, and (thankfully) there wasn't much of it. I had ordered marinated salmon, marinated tuna and naked tuna. The naked tuna was some kind of mush that I had never seen before. The texture and taste were off putting.
