Our family went in to Jaiyen to order our food to go The server informed us they don't have paper menus , and informed us to go online to their website with their menu , I ordered the food and the price online , on their website , was not the price they ring you up . If you ask them to honor their online website price , they will tell you "no, no those are old" they will not honor their online prices and they will not update their website. One of my top spots to get Asian food! They're located in the corner of Belmont and California, with some parking along side the main streets. The restaurant is fairly small but we almost always get a table for 4-5 people right away. The service is great overall, they take your order at an appropriate time and are rarely ever behind on ensuring your water is filled. I love ordering their chicken pad see eiw and one of their sushi rolls. The presentation of any sushi roll is 10/10. They make all of their foods fresh and made to order and it all tastes authentic! It was good timing because they had lunch specials going on. These specials are good any day of the week. Got the one that's about $10 for 2 maki rolls and miso soup that's soybean based. This one was the vegetarian choice, with Avocado Maki and Garden Maki as the rolls. First one had avocado of course. The other one also had asparagus, cucumber, and spinach. I have ordered from here a few times but never eaten in the restaurant. Almost everything I've gotten from here has been really good. They use very fresh ingredients, good quality fish, and everything is freshly made. I really like the dragon roll in particular. Generous portions for the price. My only complaint is that their crab Rangoon quality has gone downhill- they're not really flavorful and this is one place where I think the ingredients are not so great. On an early Saturday evening the four of us dined at the location on California by Belmont and Elston (there is another Lakeview location - apparently the original - on North Broadway). Jaiyen is BYOB and has a pleasantly designed interior. When we were not enjoying our beers, our server refilled our water glasses diligently. We ordered crab rangoon and fried calamari as appetizers, and both were pretty good and particularly crispy. I was the only oddball at our table who did not order sushi, but the sushi is presented very artistically and is apparently quite delicious as well. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, which came with miso soup and a bowl of white rice. The serving came with plenty of tasty chicken in teriyaki sauce, and I definitely had enough chicken left over so that I could take it home. There is a small parking lot just east of the restaurant that is apparently free to diners of Jaiyen as well as a couple of other establishments, but I can imagine this lot filling up fast. read more

We'e given this local business a lot of chances lately, but will now be moving on supporting others given our latest experience. We always pick up food from Jaiyen given proximity to our condo. Years back, the service and quality were stellar. Lately, not so much. The shrimp tempura roll had shrimp that were not deveined. It was disgusting/ seeing the shrimps poop track in every roll. Why not just take that out before frying it? My husband got negi tuna and Himachi rolls, and the pieces of seafood were so incredibly tiny. Not worth the money. The $7 avocado roll was black, clearly not properly storing their avocados or using very ripened and old ones. Lastly, our go to is always the basil fried rice, until we found hair in it. We spent over $50 on food, and every single item we ordered was problematic. It doesn't help that they keep increasing their prices. I would recommend going elsewhere in the neighborhood if you are looking for Thai and sushi. This place has unfortunately gone down hill and all you'll spent a lot of money to be disappointed. Jaiyen is solid, affordable sushi in Avondale with fast delivery. I will sometimes order one of the chef's choice sushi/sashimi collections, and if you are indifferent to your options that is a perfectly fine choice. Be sure to place an additional order of unagi, however, for it is excellent. I also recommend the scallops. Otherwise, grab the bull by the horns; control your destiny; write your own ticket; order a la carte! It is not as expensive as it could be. There are Chinese options as well, but aside from the baby egg rolls, fried pot stickers, and soft shelled crab (all of which are excellent), I do not venture to that side of the Sea of Japan. read more
