My husband raves about this place and clearly reviews agree, but not me because you straight up served me a rotten avocado. I wasn't feeling well and Chris G has been trying to get me to try this place but I'm not a poke girl. I guess I always knew.... He returned with a very very simple bowl with only three toppings, chicken shrimp and the doomed avocado. I really have nothing else to say because I couldn't eat it after seeing and smelling it. My husband would have taken it back for a refund but he was on his way to a bbq. I should have followed my gut and just told him no. Super frustrating since that was supposed to be my dinner. Solid but not outstanding. Many of the toppings, such as the crab, cucumbers, furikake, and spicy mayo were good. There was a lot to like. There were some minor issues. The avocado topping that I got was not good. It was slightly oxidized, there was one piece, and it wasn't very creamy. It was like the cheap stuff from the discount store. I really wish sushi rice was offered. Just take normal rice and add some rice wine vinegar at the end. Easy. And then there was the fish. It was fine. It wasn't great. I think next time I'll just go to the fish market, get the frozen sashimi grade fish and make my own. Anyway, it was good. There was room for improvement. My husband and I tried this place on a Saturday evening. We were surprised that it was absolutely empty. It smelled clean and seemed well liked since people went in and out while we were there. It was a create your own poke bowl style with a few options from a menu that were their specialty creations. The employees were friendly and greeted us and explained the process to us. The place is clean and the selection of what you can get in your bowl is huge. Ingredients were fresh and tasty. While the portion size overall of the entire bowl seems generous as a whole, my only complaint is the 3 "scoops" of protein (the most important component IMHO) are pretty miniscule scoops. I think most 'clean eaters' expect to pay a lot for a modest portion though and can see how the bowl overall is satisfying because of all the other ingredients. But I finished asking "where's the fish?" A big pile of greens, cucumber, corn and edamame, etc etc doesn't impress me. At least they've kept the bowl price below the $19 price point. But in reality they are skimping on the poke portion size but still impressing most patrons by camouflaging it with the less expensive healthy ingredients. It's staffed with sweet wonderful people who seemingly want to provide each guest with a great experience and they actively work to make sure what they're serving is beautiful and delicious. The menu offers a few bowls they've put together, but of course he can go to custom route too. Mobile gets salmon and spicy tuna along with the base of rice and greens. Throw on the shoyu sauce and some Ponzo add a ton of cucumbers, edamame, pickled ginger, fresh jalapeños, crab, green onions, and Tobiko, then top with a little bit of the fire poke sauce, which is a habanero spicy mayo, and a touch of teriyaki for a little sweetness. I will say that the protein scoops are not as generous here as other places, but a couple extra bucks get you an extra scoop and it's well worth it. I'm still thinking about the fire poke sauce, which was just incredibly delicious and I could've eaten it with a spoon. This has become a go to for high-quality high protein, lunch and dinner. My bowl was beautiful and tasty. I did get a bit overwhelmed with the sauce choices and would suggest a cheat sheet of descriptions for us newbies. I had a two sauce combo but I think I didn't get the sweet soy spicy taste combo correctly that I was after. Not on them at all! It just means I need to frequent this place to hone in my favorite preferred sauces. Very fresh, clean, and nice. The ladies working there were very helpful in navigating the menu (especially when serving g two hungry young kids) and the assortment of fish and toppings all looked very fresh. We made a full size poke bowl which was perfect for the two kids to share and for the grown ups to sample. However, I suspect some factors might come into play: 1. Lack of curbside signage (like sandwich boards, or even something that drapes over the patio fence). The entrance is set back farther than the street level (compare it to Safeway's entrance), so it's easy to miss if you're driving by. Additional signage might help 2. There's a fence around the patio area, so there might be some psychological barrier to newbies just wandering in 3. Lack of awareness around poke. When we went it wasn't busy at all so it was nice to eat inside and wasn't sure if the person who took our order was the owner but he had talked to us for a bit when we seated down to eat. Very nice man. The bowl was quite big, I was not expecting that. Other places I've gone to around Reno are usually the small bowls but here you'll definitely get your moneys worth.
