​I have eaten at Ijji Sushi on many occasions, but my visit on August 20th was hands down the worst service I have ever experienced. My son and his girlfriend were visiting from out of state, so I brought them in around 7:00 PM expecting a good meal. The restaurant had a steady crowd, but it was not overwhelmingly packed. ​We ordered the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) sushi, drinks, and appetizers. It took nearly an hour before we saw any food. When I brought the severe delay and missing drinks/appetizers to the manager's attention, I was completely brushed off rather than having the issue addressed. To make matters worse, our second round of sushi took just as long. ​By 9:00 PM--over two hours later--we were still waiting on basic items. Rather than continuing to argue our dissatisfaction, I asked for the bill. For an established business, you would expect management to apologize or offer some form of accommodation after such a massive delay, but we were charged the full $206.99 without hesitation. Due to the complete lack of hospitality and unprofessional management, I cannot recommend this location. read more

I have always enjoyed going to ijji to have good sushi and good service. It's been a while, why? Sushi is no longer "inexpensive". Going out for sushi was never cheap, but service should always be good. We, a party of 3, were seated quickly and the waitress came by, just as fast and wanted to know if we were ready to order. This was a good thing. We gave her our drink order and it was now up to us to determine what sushi we wanted for 3 x AYCE. The selection was immense. I ordered the ijji roll. It must be the chef's special. I enjoyed it! The octopus was cooked just right. Not rubbery as all. The wasabi was good and hot (spicy). The first order was delivered quickly. The second order was delivered quickly. The third order was a bit longer. At this point, two things were happening. 1. It was getting busy. It was after 5:00pm so naturally, business picks up. 2. The amount of chefs did not grow. Personally, I feel that there were ample sushi chefs. But, what do I know. It's a hard thing to guess what a restaurant needs to be a success. But, something wasn't right. We ordered tobiko. Normally tobiko is crisp and when you bite into them, they pop. These little guys were not popping. If you like sushi, there are several things that you like. The aroma, texture, taste and appearance. The tobiko was not so fresh. The taste and more importantly to me was the texture. Maybe they got a great deal and ordered several pounds at a discount. It wasn't worth it and if the tobiko wasn't popping, at least one customer wasn't happy. The Hamachi, was good but not buttery soft. I was also disappointed in the spicy tuna. It had white spots in it. I tried to eat one and the texture was weird. Each white spot was hard. I could chew through it, but this is the first time I've experienced that. The flavor was good. The quantity was good too. At this point, every order that went in was a wait of 5 minutes. I know, when you're seated and hungry, it feels like an eternity. The bottom line --------------------------------------------------- Would I go back again? Maybe. I should give it another try. But, at $35 for AYCE, I may wait up to a year. Other than that, it was good. I didn't experience any reminders of what was eaten several hours after the fact. The Service was good and with a smile. It was quick with the only delay in the preparation. It was clean and dishes were picked up quickly. For that matter, the entire staff gave great service. This place has been here for a long time. I have been coming to IJJI Sushi since they first launched, so I have seen it through the different phases over the years. Food has always been decent and consistent. The rolls are good and there is a solid variety to choose from. Nothing necessarily blows me away, but it satisfies the craving when I am in the mood for sushi. Service has been hit or miss depending on how busy it is. Sometimes it feels attentive and smooth, other times it can be a little slow, but overall it gets the job done. Ambiance has stayed pretty much the same since opening. It is a casual sushi spot with a steady flow of customers. Nothing overly modern or upscale, but comfortable enough for a relaxed meal. This is my second time visiting this restaurant over the years while visiting Reno. Came here for my birthday dinner with my brother. Always fresh and delicious food. The service was exceptional. Quick to take our order and bring our food out. The lovely people we encountered that work there that made everything great were, Juan Jr., Jenny, and Luis! Thanks all of you! Ordered online for pickup, the staff was not welcoming. No hello, just handed me 2 bags and when I asked if that was everything, only then did she ask my name. I live not close by so when I got home and dished up a plate, the tempura shrimp was hard and not cleaned (still had the poop vein), the dressing from the salad soaked the gyoza making it not edible, the sushi was missing the toppings on the Godzilla roll, King Kong roll and the crystal shrimp deluxe. Been coming here for years and to my surprise today is the day i'd like to give my ratings. It's a pretty big place being able to sit huge crowds of sushi lovers. Service is fast and our usual waiter is always top tier in customer service. My favorite is the Bento box 3 with salmon. Good news, they have changed the beans to cucumber so i can eat my money's worth. The beans were eeekkkk and cucumber salad is much better. If you order the bento they'd give you some soup. This is the first time we've been to this location. We had a to-go order and it was ready on time. When we got home, we opened our appetizers and saw they were swimming in coleslaw dressing so they weren't crispy. We ordered Mountain, Geisha, Train, Tahoe, and Spider. I realize that they won't taste as fresh as in the restaurant, but they all tasted the same. Having a hard time rating this place, so benefit of the doubt raises it to 4 because my one roll was pretty good with ebi shrimp and avocado plain like I like it. I really liked the soft sticky rice. The problem came when I asked for cooked salmon if they had it but I specifically said I cannot have tempura or any type of breading around it being gluten free but it did in fact come fried. So that was unfortunate. My husband ate it and we didn't bring it to their attention which I feel like I could have but didn't wanna bother. I come here at least once a month. The mussels are on point and the chefs are sooooo fast. The best roll I've ever had at any sushi place is the Pyramid. I could order just that roll and be fine for AYCE. This is the first sushi place I ever tried YEARS ago and I have yet to be disappointed. The service was alright , took a while but it was busy. Usually we have a good time here but we found a better sushi place and this was our last time coming here. Over time it just went downhill and like a long relationship with ijji's sometimes it doesn't work out. I swore I'd never go to Ijjis sushi again because I got severely sick from their fish years ago. But, my partner wanted to eat here so I decided to give it another shot. The waiters seemed distant and took awhile to get our drinks/first orders out. The appetizers were not very good and the sushi did look visually appealing. However, the quality was not the best and was very bland. The dinner price (when writing my review) is $32.99 and it's definitely not worth the price. There are many places in Reno to get AYCE sushi. We came here recently because we had a gift card to use. Walking in during a late lunch hour, we found their huge space nearly empty. We were greeted promptly, led to a booth, and given the sushi menu. There are a wide variety of rolls available on the lunch menu but we would not choose many of them (those that included cream cheese or are fried). Of the ones we had, we thought they were ok. Some included a strange overly sweet sauce. Even stranger, some of the nigiri had that same sweet flavor added - not good. But we were happy that they had green tea ice cream to end our meal. One thing to note - per the chalkboard welcoming guests by the door saying to "ask your waitress how to get $2 off AYCE," we did! She said we only needed to eat everything that we ordered which we always do. It was nice to get a little bit off of our bill! I believe the menu quality and variety improved noticeably with the new management, and I can't wait to come back! The new rolls added to the menu were delicious!! We dined in for a later lunch today. AYCE lunch is $26.95, If you order dinner rolls, you'll be charged $32.95. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they have an AYCE for kids for $8.95. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of booth seating, and tables with the ability to accommodate even the largest parties; and of course bar seating if that's your thing. It's been a few years since I had been here to this specific sushi joint and the my only suggestion would be to ease up on the sauce. Besides that, we had two servers and they took care of us and our boys just fine. The last time service was not acceptable. There weren't any long waits for our food and thankfully the restaurant wasn't too busy. I left a pretty happy camper and ate myself into a sushi coma. I have been to this Ijji location for over 10 years since the very beginning when it first opened. The owners are amazing and very friendly.. I love that we are always greeted and welcomed in when we come to eat (and this applies at all of their locations) The menu consists of a large selection of raw and cooked sushi. Ny husband loves the raw nigiri such as the salmon and tuna and I love the cooked sushi such as the ninja and wayne's. This place is also kid-friendly, my two bots love the ninja rolls and the chefs are always accommodating to make sure of my son's peanut allergy and also to their likings if they want to leave something out of a roll. When we go to a sushi restaurant, the appetizers have to have baked mussels and calamari. Ijji has both and both are amazingly delicious. This Ijji location has a lot to offer but the reason why I give this location a 3 star is because the quality of food is not always consistent. For example, sometimes the rice is not fresh or the mussels are not cooked right (have a fishy taste) or sometimes the avocados on the rolls taste a bit off. Little things like that but this doesn't happen all the time but when we do end up at this location, we have a 50/50 chance on fresh and great quality rolls. For this reason we always try to go to a different IJji location but sometimes this one is more convenient. The last time we went to this location though, we did have a great experience! We went beginning of this morning on a weekday for dinner with a party of 7. Truly disappointed! My daughter and I both ordered a Bento box and we couldn't get past how inedible it was. Honestly the best thing offered was the edamame and they only had to boil that. My daughter got the teriyaki chicken and it was PAPER THIN, she only took 1 bite. It was so dry and cold. The California roll that came with it was old. You could tell it was made way to far ahead of time. The rice was gummy and the Avocado was mushy. The tempura was ok, nothing to boast about. I had the steak teriyaki and it was like a kids meal. I have never in my life been served a steak teriyaki bento where the steak was Diced into cubes, small dried cubes. It was horrible, dry and again served cold. I asked for the manager, and I was pleasant when explaining how disappointed we were. She was ok, but she took it personally instead of just apologizing. She had the audacity to tell me that the customers like the chicken extremely thin like that and have complained in the past that it was to thick. Excuse me! What! No one would ever complain about getting a nice sized thick piece of chicken or meat for that matter. I have never heard someone say, please take this thick juicy chicken away and give me a paper thin dry one. I can wholeheartedly understand if she had come from a truthful place but that reason was a bit far fetched. My husband had the AYCE sushi it took forever for his order to come. When he mentioned it to the manager when I was done speaking to her, she said, it's coming, I only have 3 chefs and they need to serve the whole restaurant. Again, she could have not taken it personally and just responded with, "let me go check on that for you" . She did take our meals off of the check, which I appreciated as I didn't even ask for it. I really just wanted them to know that what we were given was inedible. Additionally, on the way out 2 servers approached us and apologized for the food and bad experience. That was a plus, I told them I appreciated their concern and thanked them. I still tipped our server for what the bill would have been it wasn't her fault it was inedible. I was really disappointed with my experience here. The food quality was the biggest issue. The rice was not fresh at all -- it was hard and tasted like it had been sitting for a couple of days. On top of that, the fish was dry and warm, which is completely unacceptable for sushi. Freshness and proper temperature are the most important parts of sushi, and this completely ruined the meal. The service made things worse. Our server, Jenny, seemed very unprepared and disorganized. She forgot several items we ordered and had to be reminded multiple times. It didn't feel like there was much attention or care for the table. To add to that, the sushi chefs confused parts of our order, so even what we did get wasn't correct. Altogether, between stale rice, dry warm fish, and poor service, this was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences I've had. The mistakes, lack of freshness, and overall carelessness make it very hard to recommend this restaurant. With so many other sushi options in the area, I will not be returning. And for sure not recommending to anyone, avoid it if possible, there is better sushi restaurants in Reno like (the joint) Also, ambiance was not great either. read more

They have very unique sushi rolls. A lot of them were combinations I had never heard of. I would recommend sticking to the classic sushi rolls you know and love. Some of the more creative ones were not very good in my opinion. One of the rolls was covered in a thick sweet mango sauce. And another roll was lacking in flavor. The shrimp tempura rolls and the salmon avocado rolls were best. The pot stickers were also great. The miso soup was standard. Overall, there were some rolls I liked and some that were not great. The portions were large, and we felt obligated to eat most of it since it was all-you-can-eat. The service was good. One critique is that the sushi menu and the order card do not match up, so it is very confusing to order rolls from the paper card they give you. Ordered some food and a ride in about 15 minutes, however it was not prepared. Had to wait between 10 to 15 minutes. Did not seem that busy, however they had about three tables and five workers.
