We've always wanted to try this place, but whenever we were craving Peg's Loco Moco or Portuguese sausage, we'd pass right by! Well, we finally made it in--and they did NOT disappoint! They have poke bowls, appetizers, ramen dishes, bento boxes, and more. We ordered the Shoyu Black Garlic Ramen, Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl, and Bento Box #1. Everything was tasty, and there were so many other dishes we wanted to try! Unfortunately, we didn't have time to sample more, and we were definitely full after what we ordered. But that just means we have plenty of reasons to come back! Great service from the owner as well! She got busy while we were there, so I wasn't able to get a picture of her this time. I love a good ramen place and I think I found my new favorite with friendly service. Alike most ramen shops, it's small but comfortable. Shrimp tempura and takoyaki for appetizer. My husband loved it and wants to go back - Haru still has my heart but they are always closed when I want ramen The waitress was very attentive (almost too attentive since we were the only ones there at first) But she was meticulous and brought an extra bowl and utensils for my kid. What a cute hidden gem! I had no idea this place existed. A small, intimate setting. They serve ramen and poke as well as other appetizers and some desserts. Service was quick! We started with the tempura shrimp that was served with sweet chili sauce. So crispy and yummy. I opted for the tonkatsu. The chashu was cooked perfectly and I added shiitake mushrooms for $2 more! It was not very flavorful, it definitely tasted like black garlic but it didn't have the chicken broth base I was looking for or any other kind of spice. I work near this location and have gotten take out two times from here so far. I'm vegetarian and so I was excited to see they had a vegetarian ramen option. It's easy to find and the parking was easy during weekday lunch at least. The interior is pretty standard, there are a decent amount of tables to sit at, nothing overly fancy but it looked new and clean. The first time I got the tofu ramen I was a little concerned the portion would not be enough because it seemed rather small, but by the time I was done eating I was appropriately full so the takeout portion ended up being good after all. One thing I did notice right away was the quality of the noodles is very good compared to the place I go in South Reno near where I live. The broth and tofu are always tasty as well. The only negative I've experienced is I usually get a thai ice tea to go with my ramen, and one of the times the half and half that was used looked separated and there were chunks floating in the tea. I did not have that issue with the thai tea the other time though. Aside from the half and half issue the tea does taste good, not overly sweet. Good lunch spot for takeout! read more

The ramen featured bamboo, egg, fish cakes, pork belly, and a lot of noodles. I got sick of the noodle portion because there wasn't much substance of anything else. On the menu, extra pork belly was listed at 50¢ so imagine my surprise when the receipt listed it for $4. I'm pretty sure it's 50¢ per pork belly slice. You know when you see a place for the first time and check out their menu and you're positive it's going to be great but then you get disappointed upon arrival? This was the opposite; the place where all your hopeful expectations are actually met. My co worker and I came for lunch on a whim, ordered the harumaki and wontons to start, then the coco curry and choose your own poke bowl. It was all so delicious and the service on point. I really don't like commenting negatively on small Asian-owned businesses, but unfortunately, 79 Ramen and Poke Bar wasn't one to RAMEN-ber. We tried their salmon poke tacos, which contained very fresh, sashimi grade salmon, but were drenched in an overwhelming soy sauce/teriyaki sauce that was too salty. We also ordered the spicy miso ramen and tonkatsu ramen, which were both bland and average when it came to broth taste. We ordered the spicy miso ramen and the coco noodle--which is actually ohn noh kauk swe, a traditional Burmese noodle dish--and both absolutely blew me away. The coco noodle in particular was perfect; rich, comforting, and deeply nostalgic. It instantly brought me back to the warmth of my Burmese family meals. My husband and I went on a poke spree to see which places were really worth it. Off the bat, the restaurant seemed pretty clean. The lighting was a little dim so it felt cozy. I got the black garlic ramen and my hubby ordered the katsu. We also got one regular poke to split. The ramen was a decent size. The charsui was a little fatty but thats fine because I'm also a little fatty. The katsu was a tad saltier than I would have liked. The broth however, was amazing. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Garlic Edamame and both were really good. The Edamame was the best part of my meal if I have to be honest, it was well seasoned and can really taste all the garlic and butter flavors. The ramen was also really good, I had the Chasu with it and i enjoyed the smokey taste to it. The noodles can be a bit cooked more but thats my personal preference and my partner said it was just perfect so it varies on person to person. This was by far THE WORST restaurant experience I've ever had in Reno, hands-down. Where do I even begin? If you are looking for Ramen, this is not the place... shoot if you are looking for anything this is not the place. When I sat down, I grabbed the bottom of the chair to move it forward and Scooch under the table and put my hands into something disgusting. Of course, this resulted in me needing to wash my hands so I went to the restroom. If I was smart, I would've walked out at that point. This was literally the most disgusting restroom I've ever seen in a restaurant. This restroom was could absolutely rival with some of the worst gas station restrooms I've ever experienced. It was my friend's birthday, it was raining and she wanted Ramen so I sat back down and tried to move on with our lunch. We opted for Thai tea, which took a while to get and when it did, it was completely watered down, with only two half melted ice cubs floating around, warm and disgusting. Then my Tonkatsu came, which was like no Tonkatsu I've ever seen before.... Looked like chicken Ramen broth with zero flavor and zero spice. My friend ended up pouring soy sauce, chili oil, and rooster sauce in there in an attempt to make it edible. No dice. The waitress realized we never drank our Thai tea and asked us what is wrong. We told her and she did take it off the bill. We did get an appetizer of shrimp prawns, which has sweet chili sauce with it and it was edible at least. Two soups we couldn't eat and shrimp for $45. We both left hungry. I highly recommend you avoid this place like the plague. What I should do is call the Department of Health and see what they think about that bathroom and I'm gonna pray the kitchen did not resemble what was going on in the bathroom. Having been raised mainly in Hawaii, my husband was very excited to try this place. He loves Poke. We're also new to the Reno area and still trying to find good places to eat. We entered and stood for a second trying to figure out if we were supposed to wait to be seated, order at the counter, or seat ourselves. The setup is a little odd. The young girl behind the counter in the back said something that we couldn't make out until we walked right up to her and she repeated herself. 'You can sit anywhere'. We could still barely hear her. We sat down and took a look at the menu. A minute or two later the same girl comes up and asks if we're ready to order. My husband was, I wasn't. So to buy some time, he tried to make small talk with her asking where she was from. He assumed she was a part of the family who owned the place. She wasn't and said 'I'm Mexican. They just hired me. The family is some kind of.. Asian.' He asked if the family who owned the place had any connection to Hawaii and she didn't know. Mind you, the whole time shes answering, it's using minimal words, it's barely audible and shes awkwardly giggling. At one point my husband misunderstood something she said about her mom and made a joke. We all laughed. ALL. Her included. But he could tell she was still nervous, so he said 'im just messing with you', lightly poked her on the leg and then clarified what he had said. Immediately after, she walks away from the table. She didn't say she'd be right back, or that she'd give us a minute.. she just walked away almost mid conversation. It was very odd. I looked at my husband and he shrugged. We assumed she heard a sound from the computer or something that indicated an online order came in, cause a moment later shes at the bar putting a bowl together. we gave her a minute unsure if she was waiting for us to let her know we were ready to finish ordering and then my husband tried to get her attention and told her we were ready. Another minute passed and as Im looking at my menu I hear someone say something, I look up and this waitress/hostess has herself shoved sideways between the glass windows and table we were sitting at. I looked at my husband confused as to what she was doing, then I hear her say 'you. do you know what you want?' I look at her, look at my husband and asked him 'what happened? Shes making me not want to eat here.' He immediately looked at her and asked 'Did I do something to make you uncomfortable?' to which she replied 'Kind of' then giggled. My husband was so caught off guard, he immediately apologized and let her know that was not his intention. she just backed up and walked to the back of the restaurant as my husband and I got up and left. I was confused about what the hell had just happened but also PISSED. From the time we entered, she made the experience awkward, but made it worse by her suddenly, and unexpectedly, claiming to have been made 'uncomfortable' by my husband. He was beyond offended as he had never been accused of making anyone uncomfortable before. He asked me to go back inside to ask for a manager. I did, but of course there wasn't one there at the time. So I was handed a business card with contact information. I'm still waiting for a callback. To be clear, I am completely aware of how annoyingly sensitive, woke and cancel culture happy all these younger people are. However, if a person this sensitive is going to take a position dealing directly with the public, it shouldn't be at a place like a Poke bar, where there's a higher chance of dealing with customers from a variety of backgrounds and different cultures. Otherwise, they need to come in with a full understanding of how to interact with all kinds of people. Theres a possibility of offending cultures and/or generations who have different views, mannerisms or behaviors than she was brought up having, which is exactly what happened here. My husband is not from this country, and she knew that because it came up in the conversation he attempted to have while I was looking at the menu. She was offended? Well, she offended us and respect is a 2-way street. Whether it was what he said, how he said it, his accent, or his mannerisms, whatever offended her was something cultural-based, and I can't apologize for that. Nor should he have. He didn't do anything wrong. I'm not sure if she was hired as a favor to a friend, but shame on whoever did hire her. She is completely unqualified for that job. Outside of her being uncultured, she was barely audible when she spoke, she didn't know how to start, let alone hold a conversation, she was TOO shy, awkwardly giggling, and she didn't even introduce herself. It's like she had never interacted with the general public before. I, nor my husband, have been so quickly offended by someone. If I could give zero stars, I would. She owed US an apology, and at this point, I expect an apology from this restaurant on her behalf. read more
