I wanted a light dinner, but not as light as what I got. I ordered a regular bowl with spring mix. For my choice of two proteins I had spicy tuna and poke salmon. I have no complaints regarding freshness or quality. My gripe is with quantity. The "scoops" were each incredibly meager, only a couple of tablespoons per fish. There was an up charge for a lot of ingredients that are commonly free (like imitation crab and seaweed salad), with a pretty limited list of free extras. I come here once a week on average, sometimes more. I used to indulge when visiting State street and now I make a point of coming to State just to visit my favorite Poke place. I've tried the other new places in the area and they simply can't compare. Some of those places emphasize their atmosphere but the food and wait times are pitiful. Poke Plus is the real deal and the food is fresh and amazing. I always get seaweed and kani (crab salad) in excess with full ice cream scoops of sushi. If I had the same amount in sushi rolls, it would run me $50 or more. A large bowl here with three protein options is a big dinner for about $14. What a deal. The staff are always super nice and efficient. We sometimes get the teriyaki, which is also great, and the timing is quick from kitchen to table. They now have a gender-neutral bathroom! You should eat here -- it's outstanding. Plus, chances are that I'll be here since I can't get enough. read more

The poke bowls I have had from Poke plus have been awesome. The proteins are fresh and great quality. They have selections (octopus, squid) that I have not seen at other poke restaurants. Their rice is great, their sauces are delicious, their ingredients are fresh. All poke can be kind of expensive, so in terms of price, this is basically up to par with the rest of the places you can get poke. This is definitely becoming a go-to for poke in Madison. I'be been in many Japanese restaurants, from high end one to the to go ones and I gave at least 3 stars for each of them. However, this restaurant is an exceptional to earn "one star" in my opinion. First impressions when I walked in was the food layout pretty like Chipotle. So I decided to order beef teriyaki, one of Japanese popular dish. The price was about average compared with other restaurants. Well, here come the bowl, it looked pretty promising. I took a first bite with a piece of beef, and split it right out, because it was not a beef. It is tasted like undercooked pork and it was very hard to chew. Well maybe I had bad piece, so second one, it was the same as the first one. The veggies were fine. The moment I tried the rice and come to conclusion, this is NOT a Japanese dish, because the rice was lose and undercooked. The cooker who added more teriyaki to the dish sauce than it should, causing the dish so salty. I ended up to toss the whole dish, because I couldn't eat it. Sorry, I tried to figure out what is other positive about the dish so that I can bump my review to 2 stars, but there is none. read more

Glad a poke place had finally made it to State Street! I had half greens and half brown rice with a build your own. Greens leave little to be desired, skip 'em unless you like iceberg lettuce. Price point is about right for a poke place, but maybe a little expensive considering other nearby options (~13 for a large, BYO). I had salmon, poke salmon, and poke tuna. Fish tasted fresh and toppings were plenty! I appreciated that they offered tobiko as well. Sauces were solid, I had poke sauce and spicy mayo, neither of which overpowered the bowl. It was a solid combo that was savory and so so so filling. Service was fast, seating is limited, so be prepared to take your meal on the go if many people are around. I'm so down for the explosion of poke places in Madison, Wisconsin. I was in Hawaii last summer and literally still dream about the abundance of fresh, buttery, flavorful poke that you could find there pretty much any place you went. I've not yet made it out to other poke places in Madison but if they're anything like Poke Plus, I'd say Madison is in pretty good poke hands. This location replaces the old Disco Fries restaurant, which I never entered but walked by every day and was not surprised to see go under because I hardly ever saw anyone in there. I think the location works much better as a poke place - it's a quick light lunch you can grab to go and the service is quick and efficient. The fish is fresh and the sauces are yummy - probably the only qualm is portions are a bit small for what you pay but it is poke so I'm happy to pay it. I also got their salmon teriyaki too go one day and it was very satisfying - a surprising amount of fish and very flavorful. Definitely will add Poke Plus into my rotation of "i'm on campus and want to have lunch but don't want to eat at the Union" places. read more

pretty lit, way better than the fries place that was there before. it's kind of like a qdoba style restaurant but instead of making a burrito bowl you're making a sushi bowl. some of the toppings cost a bit extra but not a ton. the sizes might look small but it surprisingly fills you up pretty well. the quality is pretty good and the fish tastes fresh. it's pretty small and has limited seating, the couple times i went it seemed pretty popular but we were able to find seats. i don't know why so many poke places are opening up in madison lately, but so far i like this one the best. it also has a pretty convenient location! read more

Asked to stir poke into rice before adding ingredients, a simple task. The counter girl told us they can't do that, but the poke store down the street, Poke It Up, would do that. The counter girl got the manager who berated us for asking for that preparation. Very cold interaction. What the manager doesn't realize is that I will now walk to Poke It Up and get what I ask for. Stumbled across this place when I was having one of those not sure what I want to eat moments. Had the regular poke bowl. Two proteins (tuna and salmon for me) along with a nice selection of additional ingredients. The staff was friendly and there was a steady stream of UW students coming in. While it wasn't the very best poke I have ever tried, I was glad we stopped. Enjoyed the poke sauce and the portion size was big enough for what I wanted at the moment.
