    The Corner Bowl
    Synphane G.

The best poke spot in town. I'm a grad student so I typically go to places during the day that can provide quick and delicious food. I love coming to this place because "The corner " bowl is one of my favorite things to eat at UVA. They let you add on extra things and I like adding extra jalapeños and spicy Mayo for a nice kick .

Mmmmmmmmm. That's really all you need to know. Stopped into this casual "Corner" spot with my mom... got her the Chicken Bowl and got myself the Rainbow Bowl. Before she could even take a full bite, my mom (who hates raw vegetables and was in the mood for fried chicken) gave a fulfilled, "Mmm!" That made me feel like I ordered the wrong thing. I tasted hers and it was indeed mmm-worthy. My Rainbow Bowl was equally as tasty, however. We spent $28 for two bowls and two drinks. Kinda pricey, but I'd still go again and again. VERY glad to hear that they will be opening a location in Short Pump soon. Delicious!

Cute spot on the Corner (outside UVA)! Filling bowls full of rice and fish. Repeat customer, but recently noticed that if you order a make-your-own bowl, you can get the same ingredients as a speciality bowl but for cheaper. Once I learned this trick, it was full speed ahead (though sad about that). Taro milk tea with boba is super yummy, but the prices are a bit high for poke bowls.

WOW. I did not expect to love the bowl as much as I did. The flavors, textures, and balance was all there. The very first time I had it last year wasn't a good experience, but I think if you build your own bowl then you will not be disappointed. The unlimited mix-ins and toppings really put it over the top. I went from a sushi bowl hater to lover REAL quick. This is a refreshing, light meal that will not disappoint.

Great food and very close to Grounds. The service here was fast, and the staff was very courteous. The pricing was also reasonable. Would definitely come back for a quick, relatively healthy bite to eat.

Tuna is not fresh enough and tasty salty. The sauce is also not in good taste. I won't recommend to anyone on this restaurant. Soba noodle is the only okay thing

I stopped by Poke Sushi Bowl for a quick lunch on my way out of Charlottesville. Poke is one of my favorite foods so I've had a few to compare to in the DMV area. Overall, everything here was fresh and tasty. Another great thing is the customizability, you can truly build the bowl to be just how you want it. My only complaint was the amount of fish received. It fell short compared to most other poke places I've been. If you're a big fan of fresh fish I'd suggest ordering a extra portion of fish because there is so much rice and toppings the fish gets a bit lost. Other than that it was quick to move through the line and the inside was clean. Seating was limited but I took mine to go. If I come again I'd definitely add more fish to my bowl.

Make your own: salmon, seaweed, roe, avocado, crunch with spicy mayo sauce.

Happy to see that the poke bowl trend has come to Cville! You can choose to either make your own bowl (up to 2 fish/sashimi options and unlimited toppings - mango, seaweed, onions, crunch, roe, etc) or from one of their specialty bowls. My husband and I chose the make your own route. For sauces, he went with the poncho citrus sauce (which I ended up wishing I had gotten - but the spicy mayo is pretty good too!) The salmon was delicious; however, I wish there was a better seafood/toppings to rice ratio (more rice than I wanted). Note: the only topping I had to pay extra for was the avocado. For 2 bowls (no drinks), it came out to be $22-23. The staff is friendly and service is quick, but there is minimal indoor seating (bar style seating) and most of seating is outdoors which can be a little tough in the summer heat so be prepared for that. Overall, a good experience.

This place is really great. I love that you can make your own and really customize your bowl to your tastes-- there are so many combinations to try. All the toppings pair really well and are very tasty. My personal favorites are the massago, mango, and edamame. It's also great that you can ask for extra of any of the toppings (which I always do with the massago). There are so many different sauces to try too! I like the spicy mayo and the ginger wasabi soy. The fish always tastes fresh, but not necessarily the most flavorful I've had. The rice could be hit or miss -- the most recent time it was mushy and very unpleasant, but all the other times were perfect sushi rice. Portions are huge too -- more than enough for 1 person, and a steal at $10 Not a lot of seating--so take it outside, or better yet, take it to the Lawn!

Extraordinarily good poke! In Charlottesville! They have a menu of poke bowls or you can create your own. You can order your bowl on white rice, brown rice or mixed greens. It's a tiny place- so you order at the counter- and we choose to sit at a table outside. The fish was very good and there was a nice variety of sauces and add on ingredients. Dare I say? It was as good as poke we ate in Maui- that good!

But guys! This is the place! They check every box, from the same exact amazing dishes done right every time (this point will essentially run everyone but Bodo's off the road), and joyful service coming out of and now persisting long after Covid. I hear they are also in the rarefied air of being in North America and having a Japan-quality rice-fermenting room (apologies for the terms back there I for sure got wrong). I very recently took some downtown friends who had never been. And they were, you know, shocked. Except this place would bang even in Paris. Which is why I'm finally getting around to writing this overdue review. Phenomenal community asset. You have no idea how much you'd miss them if they weren't here. The host has made rude remarks and comments to us when signing up, as well as to other people. It didn't feel like a place that we could have fun at -- for example, I remember the last time we were there, the host was YELLING at everyone about how many times we could sign up to sing, and if your name wasn't PERFECT spelling then they would not allow you to do so. Not only did he yell, but he also humiliated these girls in front of everyone during his 5 minute rant. That made me and my friends realize we're not coming back, because it clearly made those girls uncomfortable + the audience in shock. Other than the karaoke experience, this place is very nice and I do recommend it. Sadly, I don't think I will be returning here at night / bar vibes (regardless of karaoke) for these reasons.
