I was very pleased that the food came in a timely manner and was packaged in a way that prevented any leaks or spillage. The meal was SO good. I stopped by Poke Sushi Bowl for a quick lunch on my way out of Charlottesville. Poke is one of my favorite foods so I've had a few to compare to in the DMV area. Overall, everything here was fresh and tasty. Another great thing is the customizability, you can truly build the bowl to be just how you want it. My only complaint was the amount of fish received. It fell short compared to most other poke places I've been. If you're a big fan of fresh fish I'd suggest ordering a extra portion of fish because there is so much rice and toppings the fish gets a bit lost. Other than that it was quick to move through the line and the inside was clean. Seating was limited but I took mine to go. If I come again I'd definitely add more fish to my bowl. read more

They have lots of pre-made combinations you can pick from and even customize, or you can make the bowl from scratch. So many possibilities--the crab and eel are my faves, but raw fish like tuna is game too! Toppings range from seaweed strips to edamame to tempura crisps, and you can choose white/brown rice or leafy greens as a base. The one thing I haven't liked as much recently: they used to keep the fridge stocked with Japanese drinks. Calpico, Ramune, and Milk Coffee Gold especially were some of my favorite beverages to order... but as of late, these are mostly gone. I get the feeling these drinks are being phased out. Best poke ever. My friend and I recently stopped for apple picking at Carter Mountains and decided to drive to The Corner for some food. We were really craving sushi but all the suggestions we got were for the local hit places like Trinity and Revolutionary Soup - not sushi places. By pure luck, we were walking toward one of the dumpling places from our parking spot and were passing by Basil when we saw the Poke Sushi Bowl. I really enjoyed how it was a create your own thing. Very Chipotle/Mezzeh style but for sushi. I got the salmon and ahi tuna with some veggies, tempura crunch, seaweed salad, Hawaiian sauce, and spicy mayo sauce. It was AMAZING. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and spice to it - a crunch to every bite, and they mix it together for you so you get the whole taste in every spoonful. I'm not usually one to give 5 stars but honestly it was so fresh and flavorful. They give you plenty of meat and the portions are great. There's also so many options to choose from, from various fishes to shrimp to chicken to tofu, so it accommodates for everyone in their dietary restrictions. You can choose either 1 or 2 types of protein so I got ahi tuna and salmon (you pay for the more expensive of the two options). I had a debate with myself the entire wait in line as to whether I should be healthy and get brown rice or stick with what I know and get the white sushi rice. Luckily, impulse didn't get the best of me and I went with the healthier brown rice option. I am glad that I did because it was actually delicious and went really well with all the ingredients which I was pretty surprised by! The tuna and salmon were delicious and they gave large portions of them which I appreciated. You can get UNLIMITED TOPPINGS which is amazing. For the mix-ins I got everything except jalapeños. My favorite mix-ins were the mangoes and edamame! For the sauce I asked for a bit of shoyu and spicy mayo. They mixed well with the bowl! The final step was the toppings and I was so excited to see that there were 3 different seaweed toppings (seaweed salad, seaweed strips, and the topping with seaweed+sesame seeds+seasoning). Thoroughly impressed! I've heard about Poke bowls for some time now as they have dominated my IG feed and seem to be really growing in popularity on the west coast. This was my first time trying it as a matter of fact. If you're unfamiliar with Poke think of it as sushi deconstructed into a bowl. The exact same bowls they use at Roots as a matter of fact. I got the volcano bowl. A little pricier, but it had tuna and yellowtail for protein. Bowls were between $9 and $12. A couple bucks more than Roots but sushi fish is a lot pricier than tofu ya know? They have a big table of toppings and you can add as much of whatever you'd like. Also, it's pretty cool watching them sear your fish with a blowtorch haha. Quantity was a hair below Roots I'd say. But enough. And If sushi is not your thing at the very least this place will help reduce the "Roots Rush!" Overall great addition to the Corner food scene. I think this place will be well received.
