DD and I went here mid-day on Saturday while getting her last few items before she goes back to school. Usually we go to PokeHub (I know sacrilege to mention a competitor, but hey, full disclosure here) because it is closest to our house. We found ourselves in Sterling and poke is what she wanted. How can I say no to my DD? The decor was minimalist and clean. The service was friendly and efficient. If this was closer to us I think I would go here instead. They offer eel, yellowtail and more kinds of seaweed mix ins, which PokeHub does not. The portions are a bit smaller which is actually good so I don't feel like I am wasting food, since I can never eat the whole bowl. I did a "make your own bowl" with white rice, salmon and spicy tuna, mix ins were pineapple, jalapeño, tobiko, cucumber, seaweed and extras were seaweed salad with Shoyu sauce and spicy Mayo. It was delicious. I did wish they had not mixed the tobiko into the other stuff, but will remember to ask for it separate next time. DD got a Dragon Bowl minus edamame. She really liked hers and downed most of it. Poke is our "go to" when she is home. All in all, very solid and edged out my closer go to place. read more

Loved this place so much had to come back - ordered two create your own poke bowls so both my husband and I had very delicious dinners that night. We ordered online so it was ready when we arrived. The only issue this time is that they forgot my husband seaweed salad. We ordered a strawberry green tea and my husband got a mango lemonade - both with jelly. This is probably the best poke bowl I've ever had. Got the spicy California and the Hawaiian, both on a base of soba noodles. I added yuzu to one and wasabi shoyu to the other. Definitely will be coming back! Plus they are open late. The coconut cream on the Hawaiian mixes in well with the soba noodles especially. read more

I would say the brown rice could have been cooked longer and there could have been less of it. The lack of shoyu sauce made the brown rice drier too. Portion wise, I would say that they put a lot of brown rice and there were approximately 4 pieces of ahi tuna and 5 pieces of salmon. I guess that is standard since it's just 2 small scoops of protein, but it didn't have the same firmness that fresh salmon and tuna have. Portions are significantly small compared to other poke establishments at the price point, and that's coming from someone who usually can't finish her pho, chipotle, etc. I made my own bowl with salmon and eel. Be warned - the eel takes a bit to warm up so you won't get it like immediately "to go". The sauces are good (tried spicy mayo and I think it was the regular shoyu?) - kind of overpowering so you may want to ask to go light if you don't want everything to taste like the sauce. read more

Even though this place opened very recently, we were eager to try it. Usually, we give a place time to work out the kinks before we go there. However, we planned to go to Sterling so we decided to take a chance and stop in. It's good to see that Sterling finally has a place for poke! We were were around 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday. At that time, there were only 2 customers ahead of us. A second employee came out from the back to help us. Their poke bowls only come in one size. Pricing is determined by what protein you order for your bowl. At first, we were confused as to just how their pricing worked. The most expensive proteins are salmon, yellow tail, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, eel and shrimp. You get up to 2 proteins. If you want a third one, it's an extra $2. I asked if I got ahi tuna, do I pay extra for that second protein. He explained that you are only charged for the most expensive protein you choose, then you add a second protein for no extra charge. Once all that was cleared up, I chose sushi white rice for my base, while my husband chose brown rice. The employee worked on both our bowls at the same time. My protein choices were ahi tuna and spicy tuna. My husband chose ahi tuna and shrimp. For my "mix-ins" I chose edamame, masago, and hijiki seaweed. My husband got a more varied selection of "mix-ins" than I did. Next up were the sauces. We both chose classic shoyu. Finally, step 5 is "top it off". I got sesame oil, seaweed salad and seaweed strips. My husband skipped that step. As he made our bowls, he would sometimes go back and add extra of some ingredients. In my bowl, he added extra spicy tuna and edamame. I'm not sure as to why he did that. Perhaps, he did so because I didn't load up on "mix-ins"? I wonder, as time goes by, if they won't do that as it may turn out to cost them money. We'll see... One thing to note --- the refrigerated case with the drinks is just past the cash register. My advice would be to grab your drink first before ordering your bowl. There were a lot of interesting soft drinks in the case. I wish that we had chosen first because we wouldn't have felt rushed to grab something. Thus, we ended up sharing a bottle of Pellegrino water. No sooner did we order, a steady stream of customers kept arriving! Most were doing takeout. We ate our bowls there. The dining room is spare but does have plenty of seating. We did enjoy our bowls! I did notice that the classic shoyu has an undercurrent of sweetness due to the cane sugar that is in it. Interestingly enough, the sweetness competed with the spicy tuna. I would think that the spicy tuna would have drowned out the shoyu sauce. That didn't happen and it made for an interesting flavor combination. My husband, who didn't put anything spicy in his bowl, also commented on the sweetness. The end result is that we plan to return here. The place is clean and the staff does an excellent job assembling the bowls. Two bowls plus one bottle of Pellegrino cost $25 + change. We wish them long term success! read more

Tried this spot for the first time over the weekend and was very happy with the freshness of the ingredients. I got a soba noodle bowl with double salmon. There was a good variety of standard poke toppings and I opted to top it off with the ponzu citrus dressing. The flavors combined well and was light enough for a hot day. There is room for improvement though on the fish to carbs ratio-- there was too much noodles that even when I mixed everything up, the noodles still got in the way. I love noodles so this is not a typical complaint for me. My husband got brown rice and had similar complaint about the ratio. We live nearby and told our neighbors about the spot. The salad portions are not what they've come to expect as regulars of other poke spots in the area. Note that the salad bowls here are in the same containers as the carb-based bowls, which means there isn't quite enough room to fit more greens. Parking was easy to find and we were in & out in 5 minutes. Looking forward to coming back but hope there are improvements made to the ratio. read more

I really wanted to like this place as it is close to home... but, it fell short in many ways. I usually try to avoid comparing establishments, but in the growing Poke market is almost impossible not to compare. My disclaimer is that I am comparing Poke Bowl with PokeHub in Reston Town Center. They have a huge space with many tables, which is nice as I always stress out that I won't find a free table at PokeHub (small space with few tables). However, the ambiance seems sterile and not in a good way... it's just not inviting. Whereas PokeHub is cozy and has much better decor. Staff was friendly... they are even on this score. Although Poke Bowl is a dollar cheaper ($9.95 for the chicken - 2 portions of protein), the portion is much smaller. Poke Bowl uses the same bowl for the salad and for the rice entrees. PokeHub uses a similar bowl than Poke Bowl for the rice entree, but a bigger container for the salads... which makes sense since the salad is less dense and you cannot pack much in the small bowl. So this is my biggest complaint... the salad entree in that small bowl was just barely filling. Whereas the salad entree at PokeHub is always filling. Last but not least... they do not recycle. Shame!! Especially a business that serves all their food on plastic bowls. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back to Poke Bowl... PokeHub is still my poke place of choice. read more

My gang and I decided to go the chipotle route and customized our bowls and we scarfed ours down. Obsessed with the seaweed salad!!!!! And the macadamia nut as a topping. I would suggest building it your way because you have more topping selections!!! The spicy tuna and spicy salmon tasted pretty smooth because they did mince it which was unexpected but seems like the new trend. Will probably come back but the only thing that was offputting was the smell when walking in I hit a wall of fish smells but the food it self tasted fresh and when I sniffed the fish it didn't have a weird smell!!! Lovely new age interior, very trendy with cute little succulent and wooden tables. Service is much like cava or chipotle, you choose base and protein and add whatever you like. There's also pre-made bowl suggestions which I tried as it was my first time. I had the dragon bowl and added in some things. Omg so good. Absolutely delicious. First off, I will preface this by saying I was a very loyal customer to the Fredericksburg location when I worked in that area, so much of my review is in comparison (it IS a franchise...). When I walked in, I was overwhelmed by the smell of seafood. Yes, they are a "sushi" place, but I'm talking like a hit-you-in-the-face fish market smell. Maybe they were in the process of getting some product delivered, but WOW was it strong. The decor doesn't really "flow" at all, kind of random. Especially the huge wooden chairs. They do have a very large table in the center, so that's great if you are bringing a group. The small "bar" by the front door seemed kind of awkward to me. Not a huge drink selection, I was missing the complimentary cucumber water Fredericksburg always had! No napkins at the cutlery station. I know this location is new, but PUH-LEASE label all of the items! The poor guy in front of me was having to ask "what's that?" as he pointed to EVERY topping/mix-in. It's very helpful to new customers, especially since 90% of people have likely never had Poké. As far as the food goes, I was SUPER disappointed that they are using (obviously) CANNED pineapple!!! Yuk! Fresh pineapple is a million times better! They also don't peel the skin off their cucumbers before dicing them... wouldn't seem like a *huge* difference, but it makes for a really weird texture if they aren't peeled. It seemed like there was a little too much rice and not enough of the sauce. Ended up with some rice at the end with nothing to eat with it. Cashier was friendly, made a couple suggestions to me, but I already knew what I wanted. A+ to him. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. Was hankering for poke and too far away from my beloved Lei'd (check out my review!) so we settled for the closest poke place, which happened to be Poke Sushi Bowl! I will admit, I did not come in with high expectations. Well, what my mom said about making assumptions was right because I could not have been more wrong about this place. There was definitely room for improvement from an ambience perspective (which is why I knocked it down 1 star), but the food and value were excellent! Food: They use sushi rice for their poke (one of my non-negotiables) and offer generous portions of fish. I was also very pleasantly surprised to find that they offer eel as one of the protein options! They warm it up and top it with eel sauce - it is perfection. Unlimited toppings. Value: $10.95 for a poke bowl in the DMV is unheard of! They didn't skimp on the portions either. Ambience: This is where I found Poke Sushi Bowl to be a bit of a miss. Even though it was evident there was some effort to decorate inside, it still felt cold and cavernous. Could possibly be improved with warmer lighting and maybe a lounge area? There's a large section of the floor that's not being used, so there's definitely space if they choose to add some couches / alternative seating options. Another poke bowl joint...this one in Sterling. Thought it was good. Typical setup where you select your base, protein and toppings. A few differences- they offer yellowtail which is pretty unique compared to other poke joints. They also have a good choice of toppings. Everything is fresh and tasted good. On the other hand, the wife wasn't as impressed. She thought the protein portion was smaller than other places and she didn't think the Hawaiian sauce was very flavorful. Try it for yourself...I'm sure the cream of the crop will survive considering all the competition out there. read more

The food is SO fresh, the cuts of fish are generously-sized, the employees are knowledgeable and patient while I ponder my culinary ensemble. One bowl and I'm stuffed! Can't beat the price.
