Love the sushi especially the firecracker roll which is one of their specialty rolls. My son loved the chicken katsu as well. Service is quick and to the point. The restaurant is clean and neat. This restaurant was recommended to us by one of our friends and glad we got to try it at last.

I've been coming here for about a year now since I first tried Akira, & now it's a staple in my sushi restaurant rotation's. The service is always friendly & welcoming. The staff are very respectful & helpful. I usually always eat here at 5pm when they open, so I beat any dinner rushes; so it's never crowded or loud. 5/5 sushi restaurant!

My husband and I eat dinner here, and it has the best sashimi and sushi. We have been to more expensive restaurants in Ashburn and Falls Church, and we prefer the taste, quality, and service at Akira. We share edamame, sashimi regular, and a couple of rolls. I love the Alaskan roll and the Akira Moonlight. My husband has tried several of their rolls, and they're all delicious. The staff always offer a warm welcome when we arrive, and they are extremely attentive and caring.

Known for its fresh sushi and various choices for specialty rolls, I stopped into the restaurant as I tried to find a nice lunch spot to sit down and eat. Inside you'll be surrounded by wooden finished furniture with neutral tones, warm overhead lights, and mostly seating for tables for 4 and more. I agree with the other reviews about the wide range of rolls as they had specialty rolls on a board as well as a separate special menu. I ended up settling on the yakitori to try their appetizers and ordered the specialty winter fire roll. First, the yakitori, which sat in a bed of teriyaki sauce, was tough as I had to make a decent effort to chew the pieces. The pepper and onions were nicely grilled being tender with light char on the sides. Next was the Winter Fire which I had high hopes for as it contained salmon and white tuna, my two favorite types of fish. Although the fish was fresh the Winter Fire was more like a Winter Dessert as the kewpie mayo in the roll overpowered the natural smoky and savory flavor of the white tuna and seared salmon that makes this roll so good. My advice is to switch out the sauce. Although I left my trip to Akira slightly disappointed with the rolls, I'm still optimistic about coming and trying the sashimi, perhaps with a couple of friends.

Excellent sushi and great service. We enjoyed the sushi boat with a lot of delicious and gorgeous sushi! Make sure to order a Sapporo!

What a great place for sushi in Ashburn!!! Service was excellent, courteous, welcoming, and attentive. The chef also greeted and acknowledged when guests arrived or leaving. Restaurant was clean, perfect lighting with appropriate decor to highlight the cultural aspect! My standard for sushi is high, and Akira did show quality fresh fish and seafood. We ordered Akira Sunlight, Vegas rolls and Yellowtail nigiri. For appetizers, we enjoyed the salad and miso soups on the house. We also enjoyed the calamari and seaweed salad. All in all, it was a very pleasant dining experience and the food was fresh! Will definitely come back for more...

My Father grew up in Japan and my mother worked 15 years as a Japanese sushi server. I can confidently say that I have high expectations when it comes to Japanese food. Akira Sushi Bistro is probably my favorite place in the DMV for Japanese food. The servers here are always attentive and friendly, and I've always enjoyed looking at the aesthetically pleasing inside. I most certainly recommend eating at this place! read more

Yes, we were those people(actually a group of us) who ventured out on Valentine's Day! We did make an inline reservation(they take them) and upon arriving our reserved table was ready. It was past 1:00pm but this cute little restaurant was packed with families and couples. Servers were attentive despite the busy sushi bar and dining room. Since it was a weekend, there was no lunch special but we ordered off their regular dinner menu. Food was delicious as always. Our portions were HUGE. Each person had their own take home box. I ordered the teriyaki salmon, with included fresh veggies. My salmon portion made me two meals. We ordered a couple of appetizers ( dumplings and tempura) and they were cooked fresh. After our meal, we were served complimentary mochi and ice cream. Those little bites were just perfect to cleanse the palette. read more

I've been to this location 2x after a cycle class. Always delicious, fresh, and a great ambiance. Ranging from your classic rolls to unique rolls like the Sweet Tart Roll with Torched salmon, crab, avocado, cucumber with Japanese citrus and fish eggs, this spot will leave you full and leaving happy. The sake menu is nice too! Great for a pop in casual dinner with the girls or a group of friends. Service was very polite and went nice and beyond to make our experience. I am visiting the area on business and found this restaurant. I have eaten here two days in a row for lunch due to how delicious it is! The prices are fair, you get a salad and soup with your sushi roll order. The service is excellent and courteous. read more

Always excellent fresh sea food. Service is superior,friendly, very attentive and friendly. Nice dining area and decorated nicely. The sushi bar is comfortable and seats a good number of guests. This place is cute inside and spacious! It was really busy on a Friday night. I am taking off one star for the very very slow service, including even with getting the food however, all of the food that I tried was excellent! I tried the scallion cream cheese balls as an appetizer, and those are really great. I also tried the salmon nigiri, a basic tuna roll and another roll that was called the triple roll. Everything was fresh and really delicious! Maybe not the best sushi I've had in the area but definitely up there and I would be back but they need to work on their service. read more

Food is consistent. I'm a big fan of their Katsu dishes. They are portioned very generously. I've only had one time where it didn't meet my standards but I continue to come here.z Service is excellent. The staff share in the responsibility of good service to all their customers. The sushi chefs always acknowledge incoming and outgoing guests. Tables are spaced nice. read more

We've been coming here since the restaurant opened 20 years ago. They held onto a Hot Wheelz my son left behind once because they knew we'd be back. I really appreciate the friendly service. He's a teen now and they always comment on how tall he's getting. Service is amazing. Food is always right. And the food is consistently good. Huge fan. Also, last I checked, the health department didn't even have anything substantially negative to say about them. Like the most recent problem was they didn't have a disclosure on their menu about eating raw fish. So I feel good about eating there if that's the worst they come up with. read more

The food was four stars, the service was one star. Nice looking restaurant, good location, but the servers were all too anxious to get us out of the place. Don't know why, but Carol wasn't done and I wanted to order more food, but the server brought the check and took away my chopsticks. The chef made a big deal out of preparing something that wasn't on the menu, even spent a few long seconds staring at the ceiling as though seeking some ethereal guidance. I doubt we'll be back. read more

A lot of the NoVA hibachi spots aren't open for lunch on the weekends. We chose Sakura Grill because it was one of the few that were. We came for a Sunday lunch and it was nearly empty. Service was pleasant, but the hibachi chef did the bare minimum. We started with a couple appetizers - the crab rangoons, takoyaki, and an eel roll. All were satisfactory and brought out quickly, but noticeably absent from the takoyaki were the bonito flakes. I will commend the restaurant for being mindful of dietary restrictions. We had someone in our party who requested no onions in their hibachi, and the chef was able to accommodate without any issues. We also had someone who ordered the vegetable hibachi, and the staff asked whether that diner was a vegetarian and advised that the hibachi meals came with shrimp. Another plus was that they had a sink in the dining area to wash your hands. As for the hibachi presentation, the chef lit the grill on fire, spun the spatulas around at the intro, tossed the egg up and down a few times, did the onion volcano (though poorly executed), and attempted to throw a piece of zucchini into our mouths. There was an option for a sake shot from a squeeze bottle, but we all declined. The chef relied on a few gimmicks - a silly squirt bottle and a clucking rubber chicken. He didn't have a lot of showmanship or pizazz or any wow factor. The chef wasn't very engaging - he might as well have cooked the food in the back kitchen. This was my brother-in-law's first time at a hibachi restaurant, but the lack of razzle-dazzle in the cooking did not impress and left something to be desired. I ordered the filet mignon hibachi. Each hibachi meal comes with a small house salad and hibachi soup (mushroom based broth with fried onions). You can also swap out for the miso soup, if you like. The filet mignon was nice and tender. I could've done with more flavor, but I guess that's what the dipping sauces are for. One of my favorite things about going to a hibachi place is the fried rice. This fried rice was average, and the veggies were also average... everything was average. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff were kind enough to sing happy birthday twice - once from the hibachi chef with the onion volcano and once from the waitstaff with a festive drum and tambourine. I will credit the waitstaff for providing effective service, but the food and hibachi experience were pretty mid overall.

Before coming here, I looked up "poke sauce." I found a website called "pokebowlny.com." This is the description they gave: "traditional poke sauce blends soy sauce, sesame oil, and often rice vinegar, along with aromatics like garlic and ginger. This classic combination makes the fish taste fresher, the vegetables more vibrant, and the rice more flavorful." The vegetables in the bowl were kernel corn, seaweed salad, and cucumbers. I really enjoyed having this meal! All the flavors worked well together. I look forward to having it again. Along with the poke bowl, a bowl of miso soup is included. That, too, was quite good, and it came to the table quite warm. My husband ordered "Tuna Don," which consists of "fresh tuna sashimi over rice & vegetables. His entrée came with both miso soup and a small side salad. The bowl had a big slice of radish, some seaweed salad, and the usual shredded daikon. It was little expensive but I don't regret to order them. Servers were really friendly and fast and they gave us free miso soup and salad with delicous dressing. I gave them 20% tips.
