Finally making a review on this place because I visit pretty often when around Thayer street. Pokework has been around for a while, and it's always consistently good. I always get the 2-3 protein and the service is always kind and prompt. They are so kind and offer free items when they have too many sides which I've had the pleasure of getting and trying out the extra new menu sides. I can't say it's outstanding but if you're craving some poke bowls, this is my favorite location! There's always plenty seating, never too busy, and clean. Pokeworks is a great spot to stop by and load up on some healthy ishh! I am definitely a regular and have a meal or two here almost every week. My preference is to get the salad bowl, load it up with lots of veggies, sauces and don't forget that avocado with some crunchy toppings like the crispy garlic, onions and wontons. You also have your options of proteins, whether it be 2 or 3 and I normally go for the tofu and shrimp. All the ingredients smell and taste fresh! The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The only downside to the restaurant may be the location on a busy day. Thayer street can be pretty packed at times and you may have to take a few loops around the block before finding a spot. The bowls I get are usually around $17 which isn't exactly cheap, but it's also not breaking the bank and it's so loaded with delicious food! Solid poke spot! Really refreshing and fulfills my poke cravings. I usually get the brown rice base with ahi tuna and spicy salmon. The brown rice tastes a lot like white rice, unlike many other places, and goes well with the fish. I love the siracha aioli sauce, which is basically siracha mayo. I like the seaweed salad as a topping, as well as edamame, wonton crisps, cucumber, and masago. This place makes me feel somewhat healthy with the veggies in my bowl, so that's always nice. The choices are endless and the protein options are fresh. Sad for others, but I'm fortunate to say this location guarantees quality poke. I created my own sushi bowl consisting of sushi rice and two proteins - tuna and salmon. Mix-ins featured are edamame, jalapeños, cucumber, and diced mango. For my flavor, I went with the sweet chili gochujang sauce. Caution, it's spicy! I topped the bowl with avocado (for additional cost), sesame seeds, wonton crisps, shredded nori, masago, seaweed salad, and pickled ginger. As you can tell, I love to max out my poke game! Gotta catch em' all. It was my first time trying out the poke nachos. The same drill - choose your proteins, mix-ins, etc. This time, I went for shrimp, tuna, cucumber, mango, jalapeño, and avocado in the Pokeworks classic sauce. The crab salad was good! The Providence location on Thayer St is small but clean. You'll be in and out before you know it. Parking can be difficult, but it's of walking distance from neighboring restaurants, shops, and cafes near Brown University. This Poke Bowl was better than the one I had yesterday for sure. On the down side yet again, you have to pick a damn base of rice or Kale noodles. I prefer no base at all, and just veggies mixed in instead. I ordered the Brown Rice base but didn't touch it as I didn't want a base at all. The fish was more fresh and tender than Hometown and I thought it was a better quality bowl. We entered and walked up to a counter backed with a small crowd of young staff faces staring at us and many of them looked stunned with every word we said (whether it was a simple question or simply our requesting ingredients for our poke bowl). Ah sweet awkward youth! Came here for the first time with the whole fam. Little one doesn't like to eat out so we only got 4 Poké bowls. It came out to almost $60 with 2 canned drinks, an added avocado scoop and an added wasabi tobiko. I ordered a bowl with sushi rice, salmon, organic tofu, spicy ginger sauce, yuzu sauce, mango chunks, masago and tobiko, cucumber, garlic crisps, shredded nori, and lotus chips. I like that they toss the sauce in with all of your base, proteins, and mix-ins. Toppings and crunch were beautifully layered on top. The lotus chips tasted a lot like those veggie straws. I've never had them fried. I wish I had more! Everyone finished their bowls with no shame. I thought for sure I couldn't finish mine but it was so good! The miso soup comes out of a dispenser, similar to a hot chocolate machine. I've never seen that before. And we were all too stuffed to try it out. They also have a parfait topped with fruit. Mango maybe? The place is tiny. I think there's 3 tables that can seat 4. And about 5 stools along the window. No restrooms at all. We sat at the table near the door and luckily my little one wanted to sit at the seat near the cutlery/condiment station. It would have been so uncomfortable for me to sit there without the corner of the condiment counter poking my back. Towards the end of our meal, patrons began eating their meals standing up. Luckily the trays are a sturdy metal. As for parking - those grouping of stores are set up like a strip mall with parking in front. But only 1-2 spots per establishment. Toppings - Pickled ginger, scallions, mango, orange slices and sesame seed for crunch with an addition of avocado for an extra. Sauces-to-go option. Sesame Oil, soy sauce and Sriracha. I always like their food, and appreciate their hard work during this tough time. After a few pickup orders, I finally decide to write down this review. My friend and I are super upset about the portions of their poke bowls. They were half filled with $13.99 each. I am not sure if it's because we picked up around 8pm, 1 hr prior to the close. I feel like different people assemble the bowls in different ways, so the portion is not very consistent. In additional, the adds-on we ordered, such as seaweed salad and cilantro were missing. Anyway, the taste is nice, if you don't care the size, price and the surprise you might get after pick-up. read more

Sat at one of the stools facing the window which was cool. Wish there was parking set aside for the restaurant in the lot in front of it. I believe Poke was introduced to Rhode Island in the past few years, and it's safe to say, it's here to stay! A PokeWorks representative reached out to us for a complimentary bowl to promote on our Instagram page (www.instagram.com/tasting_ri). I never actually tried poke before so I was grateful for the opportunity. When we arrived in the morning, I was surprised to see that the restaurant is very small. Even though it's on a college campus, the location is more for a To-Go style. There are a few tables if some people decide to stay, like we did. The set up is similar to Subway where you walk down the line watching your food be set up. I decided to build my own bowl. When I thought of Poke, I thought of rice. I tend to avoid rice-heavy dishes, but I was happy to learn they have a salad mix base option. The salad mix base comes in the largest bowl, one size. You choose your protein, mix ins, flavor sauce, toppings, and a crunch. I attached a picture with the description of what I added (I chose no sauce). I was intrigued when we got to the toppings. The builder waited until I told him all of my add ons. Then he neatly and carefully placed them on top. I was under the impression he did this for the picture; however, I watched him do the same method with customers after us. The bowl was a great combination. The fruit added sweetness and juice, so a sauce wasn't needed. The add ons provided a nice texture and the right amount of spice. My only complaint is the lotus chips were not a "crunch". They were almost soggy and bendy, but still tasted good. read more

It's about time. Pokéworks has FINALLY come to Thayer Street and Providence!! When you first enter Pokéworks the space inside is a little small, but extremely inviting. The walls are all white with Hawaiian wood finishings across the fast-casual setting. For fast-casual, the service was great and they were constantly making sure that we were enjoying our meal. Poké seems so simple. You pick your base, then protein and toppings. However, Pokéworks takes it up a notch with the Signature Classics and Poké Your Way (Make Your Own). With kale noodles, albacore tuna, hijiki seaweed, spicy furikake, to lotus chips, there is so much for your choosing. Also, bowl size does not determine how big your bowl, it's how much fish you get (regular = 2 scoops of protein, large = 3 scoops). I know it can be a little overwhelming with all the names, but trust me, it tastes really good Hawaiian Classic ($10.95 Regular): Ahi tuna, choice of base (brown or white rice), and a wide range of toppings. I liked how fresh tasting the cubed tuna was with the toasted sesame flavor and vibrant sauce. Spicy Ahi ($10.95 Regular): Ahi tuna, toppings of choice, and a creamy sriracha aioli. I enjoy how creamy the aioli blends with the crispy toppings like the sweet onions and pickled ginger to make it such a filling dish. Really glad that this space was turned into Pokéworks. Move over, Chipotle! There's a new fast-casual concept in town, it's called Pokeworks, and in Yelp terminology, "Yay! I'm a fan"! After an audition last night, I had a craving for something yummy that wasn't going to be SUPER filling, but still hits the "sort of healthy" requirement I generally adhere to for weeknight dinners. Enter Pokeworks, a bright and cheery restaurant that specializes in made to order poke bowls, just the way you want 'em. Like most of these "order as you go" type spots, you line yourself up and take your pick at creating your own bowl. Choose from four base options: sushi rice, brown rice, spring mixed greens, or kale noodles, which resemble spaghetti, or you can mix and match like I did, with a combo of rice and greens. Gotta keep it kinda healthful, right? Next, you get to choose a protein (or proteins, depending on the size of your bowl). Large bowls get three choices, regular bowls get two. I'm so in love with salmon that I chose that for all three, but they have lots of options, including tuna, spicy salmon, and even grilled chicken, tofu, and shrimp for those who are squeamish about raw foods. The fish was super fresh, and I was pleasantly surprised with that, especially from a chain restaurant. The topping selections are great- they've got everything from chopped jalapeños to sliced mangos and mandarin oranges. Be sure to get some masago (fish eggs!) to top off your bowl as well! You finally get to pick a sauce for your bowl to be tossed in. I was basic and chose spicy mayo, but they have a lot of tasty options that are more creative, like a wasabi mayo. Not in the mood to be your own poke chef? No worries! They have tons of pre-selected options if you just want to take it easy! Pokeworks has a couple of add-ons, like a tasty looking mango pudding for dessert, and a miso soup that I got to try. The miso soup was nothing to write home about, and nearly flavorless, save for the garlic chips floating on top. I would skip this next time. The lackluster soup was especially disappointing because I was dining here on the first cold night of autumn, and was looking forward to noshing on something warm to complement the chilled bowl. Oh well. Live n' learn. Prices are comparable to other poke spots in the area, except for Honeyfish, which is super cheap but in a mall food court. The neighborhood is bustling with college kids from Brown, so that adds to the fun, hip, and young vibe of the restaurant. Be sure to take a photo of the cool neon signage in the shop, and of course, of your poke bowl! Yum! read more

Meh, this place could be a lot better. So the setup is that of a Subway or Chipotle where you walk in and choose a base, protein and toppings. For the base, I chose to do a mix of brown rice and lettuce. Then I asked for two scoops of salmon followed by a bit of ponzu sauce, sriracha, crispy wontons, mango, scallions and maybe a few more things. I paid about $13 for this small bowl and while it wasn't really small in size, it was definitely small in flavor. Hmm, it just wasn't anything special for me but if you absolutely must have poke in this area, then I guess this would be where you should go. read more
