Tight security who are welcoming and respectful. Large bar area with a few local tap options. Mounted TV's, pool tables, popcorn machine, high top tables and booths. They also have a cute outdoor patio area. They have jukebox karaoke weekly. Beer is allowed in the bowling alley now, so watch out for servers behind you, running those orders out. Would love to see live music in this space. Usually the music is better in the bowling alley.

I have visited twice in the last month, and both were some of the worst bar experiences I have ever had (and I've had some baaaad experiences in my life!). I'm not sure what happened to the staff that worked hard to make the Blue Fox a welcome, classic dive with chill and solid vibes, but whatever the mess is that's in place now is....something else. None of the serving staff seemed to know how to do...well...anything. On one visit, I ordered draft beer - pretty basic. After first returning to ask me for a reminder on what drink I ordered, they still brought me the wrong pour, and after what seemed like an excessive amount of time. I was going to order food, but someone at the table next to me leaned over (unsolicited) and told me I'd be better off skipping it. His actual words were "Don't. Save yourself". Yikes. On my other visit, I ordered an old fashioned. Whatever it was that they brought me, it wasn't anything even close, and it was undrinkable. I sent it back, and never saw a server again. On both visits, noone seemed to know how to use the computer system to get me a bill. I will also note that it was very empty there on both occasions. There is nothing I can think of or that I saw to justify or speak to the combination of slow service and level of bumbling chaos that happened. The place was dead. Not sure where the great entertainment guy went - he wasn't there on either visit, and it looked like no fun was being had by anyone. Something changed, folks. I don't know what, but hear me when I say that VIBES ARE OFF big time. In the words of the fella at the table next to me that night: Don't. Save yourself.

They changed the trivia company and all new staff. We were told 2 hour wait for food. The place was half empty. What takes so long to fry something or cook a burger? The sandwich was very dry. The trivia format sucks and the emcee was unfunny. Our group of 7 that went every other week will be a group of 0 moving forward. Bummer because it was a perfect place for a casual night of fun trivia. Now we would rather go home and do nothing if we can't find a new place we like.

At the bequest of a friend, we bopped around town and this was one of his requisite stops. When I realized where we were, I shuddered. Truly, the Travel Inn makes motels in the 3rd world look luxurious. I was not optimisitic about the bar. I was surprised that the S Lounge is a moderatley pleasant dive bar/concert hall. The bar has a smallish stage and dance floor for live music events. There's a cover charge, so that keeps the rif-raf that abound in the neighborhood out. The crowd was mostly goofy but well behaved college kids. Drinks were okay, snacks were okay, the bar was clean enough. Although I REALLY wanted to complain (because did I mention how horrible and ashamed the Travel Inn should be of itself? It's a scourge to humanity!) but I really couldn't. I'd go back if the right band was playing. We happened in on a women's empowerment fundraiser thingie, so it was mostly angry lesbians singing badly. But it was a novel experience and we enjoyed ourselves well enough. I'm going to have to revisit this place to see how it stacks up over time. Check it out. Post a review. It's relatively clean, staff is pretty friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced. They've had some pretty interesting shows there, and a good crowd usually turns out. While it is in an area of town frequented by some pretty shady characters, the people I've encountered in the bar have mostly been regular non-shady Anchorage folks.

However the toppings could've been improved with better bacon, and maybe a touch more spinach. Even a small dollop of Béarnaise sauce would've been better than the Parmesan. Nevertheless this was probably my favorite bite of the night. The halibut on the fish & chips was also fresh flaky and really tender. The chips were like thin steak fries that had been battered but were still under seasoned. They weren't great, and no one ate them even our toddler who loves fries. The blackened halibut on the salad was tougher, and dry. There were too many store-bought croutons and the salad dressing was possibly store-bought too and bland for a Cesar. The ribeye was totally sad. It was quite thin and unimpressive especially for the cost. It came with more of those dismal fries and some plain broccolini. Our steak-loving dinner companion only ate about half and didn't care to doggy-bag the rest so it went to waste. Calamari was average, and came with two oily amateur-chef looking sauces, one mayo flavored and one somewhat spicer was basically the same as the first. Our excellent waiter mixed up a cocktail sauce himself that blew the other sauces out of the water. Bravo to him. He was the best while waiting on us also, quick to refill a water or retrieve more drinks from the bar. Jimmy was our server and he was super cool. Took great care of all our needs! We first order a bottle of Chardonnay that was excellent and for my main course I ordered the Beef Stroganoff. This entire was incredible with huge chucks of tender beef and an incredible sauce with the noodles! The venue had an Old English Pub vibe that made you feel like you were special! If you're in Anchorage, this is a must restaurant to check out. We loved it.
