We came on a very busy Sunday and managed to snag a table in the front area. I was worried about getting service but the servers are amazing! I watched as they honed in on everyone's table without missing anyone! Food was excellent. I ate at Humpy's over 15 years ago and have been talking about their halibut fish & chips since. Visiting Anchorage for a few days so stopped in to see if it met my memory expectations. Yes! The halibut was the most tender and moist fried fish ever! And the fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly. I remembered that I loved the slightly spicy tartar sauce...yup! Still great! My only complaint was the portion size of fish...another piece or two would have been perfection. Decent beer list. Wish they had more than one house brew choice. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Decor was exactly as it was years ago which is ok by me...why change a good thing? Our Lyft driver raved about this awesome local hangout. It does look like a great hang spot: lights and live music sometimes, comfy seating. That's where it ends. Maybe it was our out-of-towner vibe, or they just didn't like us. We got the cold shoulder. It wasn't crowded but it still took almost 20 minutes for anyone to even take our drink order - and it was the third staffer to look at us who finally reluctantly came over. (We were trying to be chill and didn't get uppity about wanting attention.) The artisan brew was OK, but not as good as elsewhere in town. Cocktail was a little watery. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the food also was really not good. The crusted halibut was so greasy we were both sick. Six of us went there for lunch only five ate. Food WAY overpriced for what you get and service extremely poor. We were on a tour and had 2 hours for lunch. We ordered right away and took an hour to bring a Caesar salad, fish tacos, chicken sandwich, a bowl of salmon chowder and fish and fish and chips. The tortilla chips that came with the fish tacos and not fresh like some inferior chip you buy at the market in a bag. The chowder came out lukewarm so it was sent back and they heated in the microwave. No good restaurants have microwaves in the kitchen. My cod was tough for the fish and chips. The chicken sandwich was more bun than chicken. The icing on the cake was when the server came with our checks ( we had three separate checks) she proceeds to tell us that there is an 18% gratitudy charge for parties of six or more. I explained to her that only five people ordered. She didn't care. Then she handed me the card reader and wanted more tips on top of the 18%! Our waitress was absolutely lovely, the halibut sandwich was great, and the crab cakes hit (per usual). I noticed they have a favorite rye, High West, so I ordered a couple of old fashioneds-they came out watery (I literally watched the bartender add soda from the spray gun), over-sweet, and not quite the usual go to for a whiskey cocktail. Instead of sending them back and wasting the alcohol, we asked to have a shot added to the drink, to make it ACTUALLY taste like an old fashioned should.... When our check came, the total for our two drinks was $75... for the (honestly) worst old fashioned I've ever had. I asked the waitress to hear me out that the only reason we have spent that much money was because we had to fix the drink that was not properly made to begin with... She took that information to the manager, and was told that it didn't matter because we drank it. Had the bartender actually been competent when making an old-fashioned, our drinks would have been $16 per person instead of nearly $75. But the management would not take ownership of this problem and therefore our check for two drinks and a split app & a split sandwich was $150. Obviously not the type of Tuesday night that I imagined or plan on having considering the type of service recovery that manager provided. This is an absolute unacceptable way to treat your customers, especially because the manager did not come over himself to talk to us at all, instead just sent our server right back over to tell us she was sorry. Great food and hospitable service! They were able to accommodate our large party at a moment's notice. The standout dishes were the steamed clams, halibut fish and chips, bacon brussel sprouts, and crab roll! Our server Grant was very personable and attentive plus the food/drinks came out quickly. We were very pleasantly surprised with how good everything tasted. The server was also able to provide great recommendations for local draughts. I personally loved the mango cider, and tigers blood was another popular one for our party. Remember to save room for dessert because the whisky bread pudding is phenomenal. The service was great the waitress was on it the bad part was the food. The biggest complaint is the Alaskan Smoked Salmon board. It was two scoops of cream cheese mixed with salmon and a loaf of white bread. The bread was just a loaf of bread not toasted not anything kinda strange like your supposed to take white bread and dip it in the cheese or use a knife and spread it on the bread? I first visited this place exactly 20 years ago. While in Anchorage, we decided to visit this place again. This place is as touristy as it gets but its okay for what it is. Our crab cakes were previously frozen commercial mostly breaded crab cakes. My reindeer meatloaf was pretty good(Thanks, Blitzen!). The fries were greasy, but that's a preference to some. The local beer was excellent. The smoked salmon chowder was the best thing amongst all the items we ordered. The waiter was one of the most smug waiters we've had. Would we go there again? We probably wouldn't go back for food, though we would consider going back for a drink and some snacks when they have singers performing. read more

Was recommended to have the halibut here, but opted for the plank salmon instead. Also ordered Bavarian pretzel sticks to go. At the bar again, I ordered the King Street pilsner. Went down real smooth. Service was great, I was quick though, just one beer and downed the salmon rapidly. It was so good. Enjoyed the sauce as well. The food was good, but very unhappy with the service. We were informed that our food order would take 45 minutes to an hour. That's why we ordered a starter as well. However, we got our food earlier than the starter, and they didn't want to accommodate us with either taking back or even giving a discount. Been coming here for over 25 years and the atmosphere and food remain unchanged yet consistently good. Beers may come and go (RIP Pyramid Apricot Ale and fortunately, Alaska Amber remains outstanding) but it's their Alaskan Smoked Salmon Spread remains our favorite and why we come back again and again. One observation about this evening's appetizer - bread was good, but not as soft as I remembered. Is that so it doesn't tear as one applies the generous salmon spread? Service was awesome and we remembered friends and great times we've had here. We're even able to secure one of our favorite booths by beating the crowd. Still a place that seems like more locals than tourists. Am I still a local though I now live in the lower 48? Why is the lower 48 even though it really is 49 - yes Hawaii was added after the Great State of Alaska joined the Union? These questions and more can be asked at Humpy's! We came here for a late lunch after landing in Anchorage. They do not have a dedicated parking spot, So we had to pay to park on the street. We had a party of eight, so we got a variety of items. My kids each got the fish and chips. My husband and I shared the salmon burger with a side of gumbo. The fish and chips were good but parts of the fish got soggy from the grease. The gumbo was really flavorful. We ordered the salmon burger blackened and it came out regular. We didn't really care but when we took a bite, it was really bland so we sent it back. The blackened one had more flavor but it was still very dry. I thought the crab salad sandwich was good but spicy. The kid that ordered it was upset because it was so spicy but didn't mention spice at all. The grilled salmon a friend got was also dry but the cucumber salad was delicious!!! Ate here today as a tourist, so honest reviews of dishes. We got the halibut fish and chips, which we thought were very good. We really liked whatever they put on the fries to make them crispy. The fried pickles were some of the worst I've had. The outside was hard and cracked open, and the pickles were like jerky inside. The pretzel sticks and cheese were quite good--nice and fluffy inside with a slightly spicy cheese. The most disappointing was the crab leg--it was floppy, so couldn't be cracked at all and had to cut open the side. For $55 for a leg, it shouldn't be soft shelled. The server was nice, but didn't check on us. We would have ordered another round of drinks, which were good. To us, the prices weren't crazy for the type of restaurant in a touristy area. First, I counted 4 servers walk by us after we sat down. Apparently our server had one whole entire side of the place or something, so it took 15 minutes just to get drinks on the table. I asked about the market price for the crab. $160.00???!!!! Absolutely NOT. Server was very short with us from then on. Had no time to talk to us at ALL. $85+\- for a dinner for two. We were vacationing in the area and came across Humpy's. We split a crabby patty melt burger and the grilled salmon burger. Both were delicious, but the crab patty melt really tickled my taste buds. The crab is a mix of snow and Alaskan king crab and is deep fried, putting a nice crispy crunch to the burger. The grilled salmon was flavorful, tender and flaky. The beer menu was large with a great selection of local brews. I tried Humpy's Kolsch that was brewed by a local brewer - and a great brew it was. Service was prompt and friendly in a pub atmosphere with a local look. It has a lot of variety to the menu so you can't go wrong by dining here.
