I've passed this place multiple times while driving to work on base. I took a friend here for his birthday because he served his LDS mission in Peru. I had no idea of what Peruvian food was, but it was delicious! We got the Yucca and Aji sauce and it was the perfect amount of spice. The Chimicanga was amazing. The prices and the sizes of the dishes vary. We got the Yucca and it was barely enough to feed us both (not to mention it was priced quite high), but the main entrees were huge and I wan't able to finish. I was told by my friend that I had to try the Inca Cola. It was a very sweet and strange surprise of flavor. It tasted like a cross between bubblegum and cream soda. It was very interesting, yet delightful. The overall atmosphere is very casual. They have games in the corner of the restaurant and pictures you can peruse while waiting. If you want a spicy break from all that great Mexican food (and mediocre Thai/Viet), this is the place to go. Fantastic food. Haven't had anything that wasn't great. The chicken thighs are filleted and seasoned, so you get the meat without the fat. The stuffed potatoes aren't really stuffed potatoes, but a shell made of mashed potatoes...also great. The chimichangas are...great! The aji sauce goes well with everything, and if you want something a little hotter ask for the "special" brown sauce. The rice is pretty damn good, too. Friendly, helpful staff, etc. etc. Closest thing to a negative is it can be JAMMED at lunchtime on weekdays, so plan accordingly if you are in a hurry. read more

The food is delicious! I love Peruvian food and this is one of the only places in ABQ you can get it. The pollo saltado is what I usually get and it's great. But everything on the menu is so good! They should call this place "Chicken with Potatoes" because everything on the menu is some configuration of chicken with potatoes. I like the simplicity because I expend way too much stress and energy in making my ordering decisions. This is a non-thinker, get the chicken with the chicken stuffed potato. You can't go wrong. I also had the chicha. Im not really a fan of sweet drinks, and this is a sweet drink so I'm not surprised that I wasn't fond of it. It's kinda like Kool-Aid... The ahi sauce was good. First time trying this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised! Ordered carry out and it took about 10-12 minutes only because everything is prepared fresh and delicious. The sauces were really good and I have to say I haven't tasted anything like them before and I have lived in a lot of different ethnic areas such as Miami, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. This place has given me a gift; it has given me a positive association with the word "chimichanga". For my entire life here in Albuquerque, I've avoided the chimichanga at all costs. To me, a deep fried burrito filled with mushy ground beef is something worth avoiding. But alas, I found myself at this lovely joint, recovering from a dangerous amount of caffeine enjoyed at the Coffee and Chocolate Fest, and thought: hey, it's time to try that deep fried burrito (of sorts) you've cringed at the thought of for decades. Boy, was it glorious. Crispy and flavorful, with moist chicken bits and spices, I would not say that it required the aji sauce, but I quickly learned aji makes everything better. I ordered a piece of their signature chicken, their papas, and that succulent chimichanga, only to later smother everything in creamy green aji goodness. The aji sauce is presumably mayo, jalapeño, tomatillo, and magic. My best pal ordered the skinless stuffed potato and was happy to share. I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of yellow curry powder in the filling. It tasted like a much more exciting samosa, and I love a good samosa. This is exactly the kind of place you want to be when you crash from sugar and caffeine. The service is friendly and helpful, the food is all-around tasty, comforting, and filling, the decor is fuzzy and alpaca-centric, music was pleasant enough, and my water glass stayed full (very important). read more

This place was amazing. Delectable. Incredible. Delicious! The best chicken I've eaten IN MY LIFE. We had a chimichanga for an appetizer - it was perfectly crispy, and the chicken inside was so tender and tasty - the green aji sauce perfectly complimented it. I had the chicken stuffed potatoes - crisp on the outside, filled with a sweet and flavorful chicken filling. Also went perfectly with the aji. My husband had chicken - it was so juicy, tender, perfectly marinaded, and the skin was crisp and delicious. The food was literally perfect. To drink, my husband had a purple corn drink -- chicha, I believe it's called. It was a sweet, kool aid type beverage. Really good! And I had the inca kola, a Peruvian beverage similar to cream soda. Our service wasn't amazing, the decor is a little outdated and musty, for lack of a better word, but my god. The chicken. This is my new favorite hole-in-the-wall joint. It consisted of Cilantro Rice, Chicken stuffed Chimichanga with lime-marinated onions and aji, Rotisserie chicken leg and thigh & Fried chicken stuffed potato with lime-marinated onions and aji and let me tell you, it was phenomenal! It was a very good portion of food for the price we paid. The owner was so kind and an excellent host which made our experience all the more better! Excellent hole in the wall resturant. Didn't know what to expect given that the location is in a rather less than desirable area of Albuquerque. Please do not let this dieter you from trying. So glad I decided to try. Everything is made from scratch and is fresh. Excellent spices used and not a grease pit. Never had a stuffed potato before and let me just say that it was so good! Chicken was tender and with little to no trimmings. Owner is kind and was eager for our business. I will be returning to this gem in the near future. Look, this place is delicious. I'm not arguing that. But every time I get takeout I ask for xxxxtra sauce, because there is never enough! And, then when they give me extra they fill up the sauce container about 1/3 of the way, and give me 3 containers like that. Um. That equals 1 container of aji sauce... So that ain't extra. I can't believe this is so close and I have never discovered it before! This place is a gem for roasted chicken. The menu is focused in two things: roasted chicken and potatoes with an sauce called aji sauce. We did not get the pleasure of trying their appetizers(stuffed potatoes), but they had a creamy flan (custard) for dessert. The family played a game of foosball while we waited for dinner, so fun! I went to Pollito con Papas on 10/18, and it was fantastic! I went at lunch, and it was pretty empty, sadly. We had the fried yucca with aji, my friend got the chicken thighs with fries, and I got the thigh and stuffed potato platter. The chicken was succulent and flavorful, the aji was a fantastic consistency, and the potato was to die for. I tried the Inca Kola, which I'd never had before - it's a mountain dew yellow, but tastes like cream soda. It was okay, but that's coming from someone who doesn't like cream soda. The staff was extremely friendly and it was great service all around. I will definitely be returning, it was such a fantastic experience. Don't be dismayed when you see the decor, the outside of the building looks a bit run down, but the place is clean, and it's worth it just for how great the food is. read more

I've driven by this place for 2 years, always wondering why the parking lot was frequently empty. Well today, it was full! I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by the simple, yet, authentic Peruvian ambiance. The music. The flags. The posters. The foosball tables! I was definitely excited for lunch. We were greeted by the owner who told us to sit wherever we'd like. As soon as we sat down, our server greeted us and showed us their most popular dishes on the menu; which, by the way, is a permanent fixture on the table, under the "placemat." Adorable. The owner walked up shortly after our order was taken with a plate of complimentary fried yucca chips. YUM! Accompanied by 2 OUTSTANDING sauces. Green and red (Rochito???). Both of which were superb. Our meals showed up within 10 minutes of ordering. The chicken was so incredibly moist (HOW?!?) and perfectly seasoned. The cilantro rice was delicious as was the chicken stuffed potato. On top of all of that decadence, the green sauce it came with complimented every single facet of my lunch, except maybe the tea and flan ;)~ Wonderful food, seasoned to perfection. Wonderful service, from a "friend" I had never met. Wonderful experience at my new favorite lunch spot. I will be eating here twice a week until my clothes stop fitting. Go and eat your hearts out.
