This is authentic. I love the Chihuahua style red chili. The lunch special from the hot table is one of the best lunch deals around, 3 items for $5.50 and the horchata is legit, made in house daily. I just don't get the hype on this place. Don't get me wrong the tacos are good, prices are OK but that's about the end of the positive list. The place is pretty run down. Not the cute kind that shows years of love and respect but the "there could be an electrical fire here any minute" neglect kind. Tables are old, chairs are wobbly, everything seems not quite clean. Not a deal breaker but not enticing. Chips and salsa- its free. Chips are stale and salsa is bland and in a tiny cup. Asked the waitress about specials, got back a polite "I don't know". Ordered tacos - carne asada, al pastor and transmission. Asked waitress what was in the transmission taco; again a polite "I don't know". Tacos were good (of the street variety) small double maize tortillas with seasoned meat, chopped onions and cilantro. The transmission added heaps of grilled onions. No additional toppings (guac, pico, peppers, sour cream, etc) were available. The "hot" sauce available was bland. The rice was ok. The refried beans were so salty they were inedible. I really wanted to like this place. I've had much better "street" tacos and I'm truly puzzled why people rave about this place. read more

Definitely my favorite Mexican in town! Family service, and amazing, flavorful food. They serve you well and deliver great food. My favorite on the menu is #1 - fajitas with chicken, which comes with their awesome homemade rice and beans, and seared peppers an onions, and something I haven't seen anywhere else - the cheese is melted on top. I have it with corn tortillas. I like to slab some rice and beans in the tortilla before getting the fajitas fixings inside! This place is one of my favorites. I always get 3 carne asada tacos and horchata. The queso is good too. Don't be scared by the outside. There's no speaker on the drive thru so just look at the menu and pull up to the window. My family and I dine in too - seat yourself and someone will come and take your order and you pay at the register when you're done. The staff is always friendly. Very good!! Salsa was flavorful. The gauc was fresh and some of the best guac I've ever had. My meal came with a cheese enchilada and beef burrito. Both were great! I even liked their refried beans which I never like. I would definitely come back. read more

I'm going to give this place one star because I'm all about hole in the wall restaurants but this place is absolutely disgusting not only based on the food. ( Will get to that part). My husband and I were trying to find a new Mexican place in town that we could try out and after reading the reviews we decided to try this how could it be bad based on what people were saying. Well we got there and sat to look at the menu. The waiter brought us a basket a chips which was only about 5 or 6 chips and 2 tiny a$$ little containers of salsa. I'm talking tiny I get a bigger cup for my ketchup at McDonald's. The salsa was ok the hot one was spicy but it was still just mediocre on the taste. We decided to just share a meal so we could see how it was and thank God we did. We ordered the 2 beef enchilada dinner with the rice and beans. They brought the food and we looked at each other sort of in confusion because the so called enchilada sauce was orange like orange pop. We still went ahead and tried it it was ok but the sauce had a major chicken bouillon taste to it almost like a chicken gravy with a Mexican twist. The ground beef didn't have any flavor at all. So it was ok but weird because that is definitely not normal we both literally took 2 bites of the enchiladas. Next was the beans and rice. The rice had the same chicken bouillon taste which wasn't disgusting but completely not normal my husband hated the rice. The only thing that was good on that plate was the beans they were so good. We even liked them better than our normal go to Mexican restaurant. So my husband went to use the bathroom and came back and said the hallway to the bathroom has several dead roaches in it guess where the door to the kitchen is? Right by the hallway. The bathroom was completely nasty as well and I don't usually put that in my reviews because I don't base my reviews on that but they had toilet papercstuffed in a hole so nobody could see in the door and there was toilet paper all over the place. Well needless to say we didn't stay after that we paid for our weird lunch and left and said will never go back. We don't want to pay for just ok food we can get better other places. Oh and the portion sizes that everybody says are so huge. NO they aren't. Go to El patio or Connie's Mexican restaurant for actual huge portions. read more

Being from California, we are admitted Mexican food snobs. I searched the Internet for Mexican food that wasn't covered in lettuce and sour cream, but it wasn't an easy task! Thank God for Yelp! Pollo Express has authentic, delicious food. We all had tacos with various meats and were impressed with all of them; flavorful, juicy carnitas, al pastor, barbacoa, and carne asada. The rice and beans were tasty, too! It may look a little like the building is going to fall down, but the food and the friendly service makes up for the atmosphere. I just visited here and had the carne asada tacos. The food here is edible but I feel they cook all the flavor out of whatever meat they use. For three of these tacos and an iced tea it came to $12. And the tacos were on the simple and small side. Just meat onions and what appeared to be parsley. Just incredibly small portions for the price. There's a young guy that works here and he had no concept of what a server is supposed to do. I tried to get his attention six times in the dining area to get my iced tea refilled to no avail. I finally had to go up to the counter to get his attention and even then I had to wait for him to reappear from back in the kitchen area. It appears to be a family run place but this kid, I'm assuming is the Son, is awful at his job. I doubt I'll be back. Too expensive for the low quality and quantity of food and the service is terrible. Are there any good Mexican restaurants in Wichita? This one isn't it! read more

Had lunch here. Carnitas burrito and a carne asada taco. It was first class great Mexican food. Authentic and delicious - and I frequent hole in the wall Mexican joints. This qualifies as a hole in the wall - and the food will not disappoint. Will be back for sure. read more

Everything I've had on the menu was great. All of the staff are nice and one thing that I appreciate is that they remember their customers. Their drive through set up is pretty sketchy and you have to wait longer than if you went inside. I've had the carnitas plate, torta al pastor, mesquite chicken, and all were very good.
