That being said, we were hungry and were willing to try this place in a town of less than 1,000 people. Boy, were we rewarded for taking a chance on La Casita. As we walked in, the smell was that of authentic Mexican food. A great sign. The woman who seated us was very pleasant and our server was very attentive. As with most Mexican restaurants, we were immediately served complimentary chips and salsa. The chips appeared and tasted as if they were homemade. They were thin, crispy, and delicious. The salsa was average and not the least bit spicy, so I asked if they had any spicy salsa. They did and it was very hot and really delicious. It was so good, I had to get some extra so I could take it home. For lunch, I ordered the special for the day, street tacos. I had my choice of chicken or steak, so I chose steak. The tacos were off the chart good. This place may be in a small town and a little off the beaten path, but is well worth a visit to have an outstanding Mexican meal and a very reasonable price!

The people are still very nice and it's really saddening that they have done this. The good reviews are from before these changes were made and do not represent the food now served there. They even ruined the street tacos. Sad.

We were in town for our annual family vacation with my in-laws and siblings, and Carmelita's is one of their favorite go-to spots. We went on a Tuesday evening around 6:30, and it was definitely busy, but we were able to get a table for 7 (1 child and 6 adults) within about 10-15 minutes, which was not a bad wait at all. The restaurant was very clean, and the service was quick and friendly. We started with the queso, which was so good I completely forgot to take a picture of it! My fiancé recommended that I try the Jiba Dinner, and I'm so glad I listened. It was surprisingly delicious, and I would absolutely order it again. I'm still not a huge fan of Mexican-style chicken, but the quality of the chicken was actually really good. I also appreciated that they were able to accommodate my gluten intolerance by swapping the flour tortillas for corn tortillas. I honestly can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm already looking forward to coming back to Carmelita's! It's definitely a new favorite for me.

I had the tropicana fajitas and had a couple bites of the jiba dinner. All were very delicious. Service was really quick. It felt very local and personal inside. It reminded me of small restaurants I like back home.
