I was a little timid about eating at first. My wife and I are glad we did though, it's awesome. We ordered 10 chicken, sausage, and beef tacos and they were awesome -- probably the best I've had in Charleston! The red sauce is pretty good and pretty hot as well. I was a little timid about paying 23.00 for 10 tacos but it's really only about 2.30 per taco which isn't that bad. Perfect amount of food and I think we finally found our taco spot. I went here two days ago and I'm currently craving the food. I had the chicken, cabbage salad, yellow rice and beans. The flavors of each one popped in my mouth. The chicken is charcoal roasted on outside and extremely juicy on the inside. The yellow rice had an amazing flavor that I could have just enjoyed on its own. The cabbage salad was unlike anything I've experienced. It was sour with a little heat and complimented the meal. I had a piece of chicken, a little rice and beans left over. These were finished later that evening at home and warmed up nicely. The area is on the sketchy side and I'm not sure how comfortable I would be going by myself after dark. But I went at lunch during the week and the staff made me feel very welcomed. The waitress struggled a little with English but her suggestions on what I should order was spot on. Disappointed. I had really high hopes for this place when I saw the Yelp reviews. The chicken was incredibly dry. Granted, I asked for white meat but this is the first time I've had white meat that was dry at a Peruvian place. The skin wasn't even in the chicken, which is probably why it dried out quicker in the first place. HOWEVER, their sides were pretty good. Having a severe pea/bean allergy, 9 times out of 10 I cannot have rice and multiple Spanish restaurants. No peas here! Was very happy about that. The sides are rice, beans and a cabbage salad. I was also able to substitute my beans for fried plantains. Yay! Also ordered a side of yuca. Very crispy and had a good even amount of salt. Since I wasn't happy about the meat, I finished all my sides but left the meat where it was. read more

It took a minute to find the place. The sign is so worn down that you couldn't be sure if this is Pollo Loko or part of the restaurant located next door. The location is a bit sketchy at the night, but we were comfortable once we entered the restaurant. The fried plantains were my favorite! The yucca fries were crispy and the Lomo Saltado (mixture of beef, fries, tomatoes, onions and rice) was moist and flavorsome. Quite authentic Peruvian style food. read more

Delicious! Reminds me of backyard or camping basic BBQ! Simple rubs with no extra sauce - by far the best way to do real BBQ . The beans are authentic and the blend of peppers for their hot sauce was great! A little bit goes a long way - I asked and the owner said they used some Mexican peppers in the sauce tonight...which tasted similar to my mother-in-law's enchiladas. So my son the toolhead just HAD to go to Harbor Freight. Its not every day you can get a great deal on a 3/8 drive short handled torque wrench, so you just go. We were on the way to do some auto work on his sisters old Crown Vic and pick up another car to work on the next day, and we were hungry. With it just the two of us and no picky wives, girlfriends or vegan sisters to accommodate, we were free range men looking for chow. My son mentioned a Peruvian Place on Dorchester Road, which was nicely placed maybe a mile or two from Harbor Freight. Now that part of Dorchester Road is a bit rough and has been for decades, but hungry men are not easily deterred. In we went. Good call from Toolhead. While not much on decor, the menu was packed with options. While there werent many surprises on the menu, there were fried plantains and a few orher special apps. Heads up: the Peruvian Cuban throws all the proteins on the sandwich, including a fired egg and a split hot dog. This spot is worth a try, and go super casual. read more

Coming from NY where I have Colombian ecuadorian and Caribbean food galore I was a little nervous about coming here and not being able to get those foods. I actually found this place on the way to my storage unit. I ordered the bandeja paisa dish (typical Colombian dish) and it was delicious!!!! They also serve tacos which are also delicious .... This is easily one of the worst meals I've ever had. I was really disappointed because there aren't many Latin restaurants in the area, other than the occasional Mexican chain restaurant. But this place gives a bad rep to Latin food, especially for people who may be trying out Latin food for the first time. I ordered a Cuban sandwich, empanadas, flan, and tres leche cake for me and my wife. The Cuban wasn't even a Cuban! The bread wasn't pressed down, there was no pickles. What is this? For some reason it had eggs in it? It doesn't even say it has eggs in the menu so I don't know what that was about. The empanadas lacked flavor and tasted like they were frozen for a couple days. The tres leche had fruit in it, yet again this isn't mentioned anywhere in the menu or by anyone. They just have the fruit hidden in the middle as if the buyer wants to be surprised in the middle of biting into it. With all that being said, I won't even get into the consistency of the flan. At the end of the meal, my stomach was growling at me practically asking me why am I eating this. Never coming back. Stay away...for your own good read more

My husband works in North Charleston and we have gotten lunch here a few times. It is amazing! The guacamole is delicious. We love the fried plantains. The chicken and rice is great, and they have Coca Cola in a glass bottle- which is my favorite. Service is wonderful-and the food is such a good value. Highly highly recommend! read more

You're not going to find queso or salsa on their menu, but they do have quite a few familiar entrees if you're not feeling adventurous. The chicken was pretty dry. My girlfriend and I ate it because we were real hungry. Rice and beans were mediocre at best. Salad was lifeless and not worth a damn thing. I have had Peruvian food in New York and in Miami (Pio Pio & Pollo Tropical). This Peruvian restaurant was no were near as good. It seamed like the chicken had been grilled early that morning or the day before and just reheated when I ordered it. My girlfriend even suggested to throw on a little mustard to help with the dryness. A rotisserie Chicken from Walmart or Publix has better flavor and is more juicy than this lifeless bird. Will never eat here again. 25 dollars down the drain. Save yourself the time and money. Don't eat here. Went here for lunch. Service was really slow and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. Had to pay an extra $5 for chips and salsa when most other Mexican restaurants give you that for free. Food finally showed up and portions were smaller than expected. The food wasn't bad but the place was hot and they wouldn't turn on the air conditioning or any fans.
