They had amazing flavor (and a lot of spice). Served with a little hot salsa verde I think? Was hotter than most salsa verde. I ordered the huarache with chorizo (a popular dish in Mexico City that still hasn't become mainstream in Mexican restaurants here in the USA). It was very good. This is definitely not the spot to get your menudo. It is flavorless and does not have your traditional pata. I am not a hominy person so it's ok but if you like hominy inside yours then don't even try it. The tortillas are machine made and are a little tough on the outer edges. No frills restaurant offering authentic Mexican food. The dining area is small, booths are small, consider it cozy. Menu was originally wrote on big dry-erase board, in Spanish. It's still there but they've added translated menus in the last couple of months. Ive tried several different tacos...steak, pork, and chicken were all good. Recently tried there burritos. Wow, they are huge, big enough to share with someone else you are ready to gorge yourself. Tacos are $2, burritos are $8. Great spot for lunch but beyond 1130 they often get really busy because the local work force loves this place, as do I. Great find in Charleston and heavy competition for my Mount Pleasant favorite, Carmen Y Juan. This North Charleston shack is as authentic as can be. Inside is small but there's ample parking. They are so authentic, that they barely speak English so bring your best Spanish. Obviously the menu is in English so you can point what you want. Although in our experience, even with broken Spanish, they still mess up the order but it worked out in the end. I ordered the quesadilla, sope and a taco and mixed, barbacoa, carnita and chicken. The definite favorite was the quesadilla with the perfect mix of cheese and crispness. Next time I'm definitely going to get a juice or their horchata as I overlooked that but a Mexican coke to go with all this goodness, isn't bad either Prices are more than fair and you get a quick service. Went to this joint today in search of authentic Mexican food. It's a tiny place, maybe 5 tables. Glad I speak Spanish because it helped clarify the menu. VERY awesome staff, friendly and helpful. Homemade tortillas, good meat, and nice sides come with the tacos. They were filling and tasty! I particularly loved that they give you a side of grilled peppers and other goodies. One bite of taco, one bite of peppers/onions... mmmmm. I also ordered the horchata... holy horchata! That thing was huge! It came in a small pitcher which made it seem bigger than your typical Styrofoam cup. They had a good selection of salsa, which I appreciate. I love it spicy! They are cash only though, so make sure to have some handy. Not everyone is fluent in English but that's ok! Luckily there was someone there that could explain a couple things to me. This is a hole in the wall restaurant with authentic food. We tried the steak burrito, steak quesadilla & chicharron taco. Came out to be ~$25 after tip, hard to beat these days. You also have the choice of flour or corn shells, we opted for flour for everything & they arrived warm & fluffy. The bled of cheeses had great flavor without being too overpowering & the hot sauce has a kick (it's on the side)! The only unfortunate part, they were out of chicken but the steak wasn't bad. I can't compare it to much as I haven't tried a lot of steak in Mexican dishes but it was not bad. It's a ground steak though so you're not getting large pieces. This place is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I've been here 3 times and it has been delicious every time. First time I had 4 pastor tacos to go. Love the crispy roasted pork on them. Second time I got a steak torta. Huge sandwich, fresh veggies and tender steak. Third time I went with my fiancé and got 3 pastor tacos (see a trend haha) and a bowl of the Caldo de Res (beef soup) which I think is my new favorite. Amazing soup with plenty of tender beef, carrots, cabbage, celery and some corn. Comes with a side of house made tortillas, rice, and a small bowl of cilantro, diced red onion and dried peppers. Pretty sure I'm going to be trying all of the soups very soon. I cannot recommend this place enough. There is a bit of a language barrier if you do not speak Spanish so be patient. read more

Can you get any better than that? - I ordered chicken tacos, a chicken sope, and an asada huarache, I also got the green and red salsa! Since I couldn't decide, I poured a mixture of both on everything. Literally, the explosion of flavor was crazy. It was spicy, extremely well seasoned, so fresh ... just so good, I can say it's some of the best food I've had. I also liked how the Asada came a one big steak so I had the option to rip it up and place it on the huarache.. idk‍I liked that. Also, the price wasn't bad. After several months of glancing at the place next to Ace Hardware on Redbank, I finally popped in. The women at the counter was very busy with what sounded like a long, long personal call but I waited until she put it down to order, which I did en Espanol. Four tacos carnitas con horchata, with was streaming away in a machine by the window. No air conditioning, but lots of fans to move the air. I took my tacos to go and was satisfied with the result. Chopped onions, cilantro, lime and a generous helping of chopped porK. The pork was a bit drier than I'm used to, but all together a nice meal, especially for $8 and some change. read more
