This place is still horrible, but the area around it has gotten even worse, so good luck if you come here. First, drive thru took over 45 minutes; that's not a typo. The food is literally already made, and all they have to do is place it into a container and take payment. Poorly managed is an understatement. Second, the homeless and vagrant element in this area has increased dramatically, and the restaurant does nothing to stop it. Maybe they should call the police once in a while? Or hire an armed security guard? At least 5 people approached our vehicle while in line. The only reason I gave it two stars is that our teenager likes the chicken and rice. I have been a long time fan of Pollo Tropical ever since I was in high school. Whenever I find myself back in South Florida I make sure Pollo makes it on to the itinerary. I decided to grab a quick lunch here before the airport. From the onset the drive through and parking lot is so disorganized. There is not much parking available in the main lot so there is a shared lot behind the restaurant. The drive through empties directly into the back lot so it gets a bit chaotic. Once you enter the store the line is all over the place and only 1 person working the register which makes for a rather slow moving line. I ordered a 1/4 dark chicken meal with brown rice and black beans. After waiting what seemed like forever to order, the food was prepared rather quickly. Once I received my meal, I went over to the sauce bar which was extremely dirty and had sauces spilled all over the place with certain sauces needing refill. I got my beloved poyo sauce grabbed a knife and looked all over the place for a fork, but could not find any as they were all out. I went to the cash register and asked for a fork when I was quickly greeted with attitude that forks were available at the sauce bar. I indicated that there were none and after a bit more attitude I was given a plastic cutlery set. Finally for the food....the chicken was extremely dry and tough with absolutely no taste. I was highly disappointed as the chicken is usually juicy and flavorful. It tasted like 2 day old rotisserie chicken that had been reheated in a microwave. The black beans and rice made up for it. They seemed fresh and flavorful and were piping hot. In addition to the lack of cleanliness at the sauce bar, the rest of the restaurant looked disheveled as well. I also used the bathroom which seemed to be pulled out of truck stop. It was quite dirty and was in need of some serious TLC. If you're a tourist and looking for "fast food", opt for Pollo Tropical b/c it's "local" fast food, plus their website says their chicken is fresh (never frozen) & hormone-free, and citrus-marinated & grilled on an open flame. They've also got a pretty wide selection of choices - from sandwiches to dinner combos, and non-chicken choices, too. And prices are reasonable, too. We got sandwiches and a couple sides - total was just under $25 for 5 people. 3 of us got the Chipotle BBQ sandwiches ($2.79) which I thought was pretty dry & sadly not spicy at all - but my parents thought it tasted pretty good. My sister & her husband got the Cuban wraps ($2.79) which they said was good. Honestly the best dish and group favorite turned out to be the Beans & Rice ($3.29 for large size) - flavorful & light. Curly fries ($2.69 for large) were ok but nothing special - tasted no different than Arby's version. They do have a cool sauce bar - with flavors like guava BBQ, mustard curry, cilantro cream, salsa, etc. FYI - go to their website and sign-up for their Pollo Rewards program to get special offers. read more

Nom nom nom nom. Please hold, I'm still savoring my chicken. I thought the first time I ate here the food was just so good because I was super hungry. The trolley driver recommended it and it was very close to the hotel we were staying at prior to a cruise. A return visit this year showed that just have really good food at a really reasonable price. Considering how much I travel and eat out, those two points are important to me. Service is iffy. Ordered 3 meals and only one of them had everything specified when it was ordered. It helps that mine was the correct order, but good food triumphs over all. The last 3 times I came I waited in line for like five min realized it's not moving and left today I lost my chance to leave and now I'm stuck in what seems like an endless line. Staff very rude at 1819 S. Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale location. After waiting almost 30 minutes in the drive-thru to pickup a mobile app order, they advised they could not find my order. This was my first time having Pollo Tropical and afterwards I'm a little hesitant on wanting to go back. The food I ordered was just chicken over rice no beans or anything crazy. The chicken was cold and scarce, it was very little chicken for the price I paid. I was a bit disappointed but I was hungry and on my lunch so I ate it like anyone would. It is the third time and last time I eat at the above restaurant. The first time the employee did not honor the tv advertisement for the steak deal and over charged me. I paid the full price and called the company from home which after 3 phone calls offered and mailed me two coupons of $5.00 each. Never have I written a review so completely negative. I did not eat here because it was impossible to order. The cashier could not grasp my request. I wanted a thigh and two wings. She said they did not have wings. This was incorrect. I saw many pieces of chicken on the grill and on people's plates with wings. I said I understood that perhaps there was no predetermined meal combo with exactly that combination of pieces but I was willing to pay extra for ordering by the piece or adding to an existing combo to ultimately end up with those pieces I had requested. She said "so you want a quarter chicken meal, all white meat." I said "No." She said "so you want a quarter chicken meal, all white meat." I said " No." This continues for a few more rounds. Her eyes her rolled. She huffed. She sniffed. She made faces. Shifted her hips. Huffed some more. Rolled her eyes some more. Then she said "so you want a quarter chicken, white meat..." I exited. I ordered online for delivery to a large business. I called to confirm order. Was placed on hold for 27 minutes. Finally called and got corporate who could of cared less. After 40 minutes reached a live person who confirmed order. After an hour app stated order was complete. I never received my order and never received a call. There was a kindhearted homeless man standing at the entrance staring us down as we pulled up in my Boss's Lincoln. He held open the door while politely asking for money. We declined his request.
