I absolutely love this place and visit it whenever I'm in town. I live in upstate NY and we have nothing like it where I'm from. When I come to Fort Lauderdale for business I make sure to get there at least once. I'm going to be in town with my entire family in January and already told them I'm going to take them there. This is the worst Pollo Tropical that I've been to. Just got back from the drive through and was wondering why the line was so slow. After ordering 4 LARGE tropichops we got small ones. When we told Emilouse (employee 402558) at the window that we ordered LARGE she argued with us that we didn't. I know for a fact we did because while my wife ordered I was considering telling her to just get a small tropi for me. The manager came and I just told her to refund the entire thing. She said, "no, I will just give you the large"...WTH??!!?? Take in mind that my wife and I are each retired from upper management careers. We aren't some US1 freaks looking for free meals or upgrades! The little girl on the take out window needs to be taught ACCOUNTABILITY! AND NEVER argue with a customer!!! Yum! This was recommended to us by local friends and I'm glad we stopped in. All the food was very tasty and filling. Loved the condiment bar. Bit of a wait but went by fast, plus I always think a busy restaurant is more trustworthy than an empty one. Especially since we went around 3pm. Prices were reasonable. With help from a friend, I finally stopped at this joint that I have passed by for years! ...SO glad I did! Such a great option for passing by any other fast food. They serve fresh grilled chicken - not just parts! They are putting whole chicken on a fire grill, then chopping them to order. No fries, just beans and rice, fried plantains, and yuca. there is a salsa bar where you can get garlic mojo (sauce) and various hot sauces. nummy! read more

I came here for for a quick Cuban food fix. Did the $4.99 choose-your-own combo thing. I got the Cuban wrap and fried plantains. The wrap was ok, but really small and the fillings were unevenly distributed. The plantains were burnt. It kind of satisfied my craving, but not really. read more

If I could leave minus 10 stars I would. I usually go there several times a week but not only did I not see one employee smile the whole 15 minutes I was there. (so much for fast food) Clifton was very abrasive. When you walk up to the counter to give your order and the person has a WTF am I doing here look on their face it kind of ruins any expectation of having a positive experience. I didn't understand why the price was so much and he kept saying " There's the receipt" over and over because I was not about to grab it from the printer as I wasn't sure it was mine because the print was on the non visible side and I thought he would hand it to me or place it on the counter me being a gentleman. He also didn't like explain the sides that came with it. I ordered a 1/4 dark special and 2 large orders of plantains and when I got home and opened the box There was a Big chicken wing with a tiny piece of breast meat and it looked old and dried out. I also received a torn off piece of roll not even a whole one. It was so disgustingly dry I could not eat it and I threw it in the trash except for the plantains. I live round trip 7 miles from the closest PT so I left revue on their WS and called their 866 number. To add insult to injury Nobody answers or calls back from their number and after 2 days I called again got a very disingenuous cs person who now said that someone would call me back. The next day I miss the call but I call back ASAP but I get VM and no call back when the CSR said he would. All I can say is I have to find a new source for fried plantains because that's the only reason I went in the first place and thought that after bombing my TV with ads I would try it. Trust me please what I got did not slightly resemble the ad pics. Notice the tiny plate the ad chicken is on. LOL There it is on TV now. NOT ME PEEPS, I'M NOT GOING BACK! In all fairness I have to say that Jeff from PT called me today to offer me a $10 certificate their. Amazing! Basically what they did was just give me $10 reimbursement for $12.26 receipt. They probably throw more than that away every 30 mins. if not more so all I can say is that was no way to make up such a bad experience. Well tonight was no different. I got into the drive-thu line 20 minutes before closing with maybe 5 cars in front of me. Thirty-five minutes later, after being stuck in line, the drive-thru attendant tells me they are closed. Great service and way to treat a former customer. I love Pollo Tropical in general as a healthier fast food choice. Its a shame that this one even exists. Ive had the misfortune of eating here multiple times and each time was a complete joke. Once, they had a line for complaints longer than the line for ordering food. I ordered a tropichop with everything except onions. I got my tropichop with chicken, rice, onions, peppers. No tomatoes, no lettuce, no corn... When I drove all the way back to correct the order, the manager actually had the nerve to tell me "yes you asked for no onions... thats the PEPPERS AND ONIONS" Are you kidding me? No onions means no onions in any form. Plus the customer is always right. How dare you try to make me feel like an idiot because I dont want onions. My husband and I got in from Baltimore last night and were starving so decided to stop here for a quick bite before checking in our hotel. 1) I went to bathroom and there was 2 stalls, one of them filthy and the other occupied by an employee. when she left she did not wash her hands, and when I pointed it out to her she showed me and napking in her hands, but honestly I never heard any running water. But, gave her the benefit of doubt. Came out and my husband was paying for our order, we waited about 15 minutes for it.While we were waiting, I observed an employee picking up and napkin from the floor and wiping the sauce bar with it. I lost it!!!! I went to her and told her "What are you doing?, Why are you picking up a naking from the floor and attempting to clean the counter with it, that is nasty" by then our food was ready and my husband brought it to the table and I took it right back to the cashier and told her I wanted my monye back. The restaurant is nasty and so are the employees. To me those two examples are more than enough to give me and insight of what kind of people work there and I will NEVER go back to this store, EVER. And, you should not either. Nasty, dirty, and a real potential to get very sick if you eat food from this place. I am considering reporting this store to the health department. This is the worst place i have ever eaten at. The staff very not even socialable at all. The location looks to be remodeled but the staff needs to be remodeled. The cheesy yucca and waffle fries were hard and stale. The chicken was dry and not fresh plus i ordered 1/2 chicken all white and did not get that when i asked the girl she said it was all white sorry im not stupid. The ice tea was stated to be sweetened which was not. We asked for refill of soda instead and got attitude. I even said thank you and got no Response. I will never go back here again. Food here is always good, but the service has been deteriorating over the last month or so. I have been using this store for 4 1/2 years at least once weekly, but these last several weeks has been really bad. Today I stood in line waiting to collect my meal for 40-minutes. There was only one server for all in-store orders and online pick-ups. At times there was no server for a while as she attend to other issues. So, prior to the last few weeks, I could leave my office, purchase and have lunch at the store and be back in my office before the end of my allotted one hour lunchtime. Let me preface I had left an Oncologist appointment in which bad news was delivered to set context. I pulled to the Drive Thru. I reviewed the menu prior to ordering. When I placed my order the woman kept stating she couldn't understand me as she couldn't hear me. I explained I was speaking with a raised voice which I was not comfortable with. Then came the "schooling me on the importance of speaking so they can understand and get the order right." This all came out garbled on the speaker and the person schooling my spoke with such a strong Spanish Langauage I could not understand her. When I picked up my order I asked for a manager she was very sweet and listened and validated what I felt. I said I am offended that I am speaking English and got schooled by a person I could not understand with a strong Spanish accent. I proposed that you don't school a person speaking English by a person who is trying but must recognize their over strong Spanish dialect was far from understandable. Have we become so woke that an English speaking person gets schooled for not speaking clearly by an individal whose overt Spanish Dialect offers challenges? I won't return despite the very sweet manager's attempt to save a new business relationship as I was shamed for speaking English. Our abilities to communicate in essential services is rapidly disappearing. And in closing, I was charged for an item I didn't receive. My experience was disappointing and despite not receiving all the item I paid for, I will not return to this chain again. read more
