The hostess from the coffee shop next door comes out and tells us that they are also Mr Mario and that we could order from the same menu. Taking a quick look, we decided to sit in the coffee shop. Ambience: a modern cafe vibe, like a larger more upscale Starbucks. It was relatively empty on an early Friday night. The menus weee on IPads, so you have to navigate and scroll through several screens. Food: we ordered: They were out of Rib soup, the special of the day?! Tostones with guac and chicharron - fried pork belly with guac and tostones. I went with a friend from Colombia and he thought this place looked authentic so figured that we could give it a try. Shortly thereafter, we realized that we were both wrong. The drinks were off I couldn't exactly point what was wrong. Maybe the Coke was flat I'm not sure but it just wasn't good. As for the food, my friend got the steak (well done which he says is the only way that steak should be eaten, I beg to differ) as well as the chicken. The food is incredibly land, and my chicken was honestly wet for a lack of better terms. I can't recall the last time that pechuga (chicken breast) was wet and that's probably because it's not supposed to be! The only reason that I gave this place two stars is that the employees here were nice, but I wouldn't return especially when there are many better spots nearby- not necessarily for Colombian food but great food in general. read more

I been wanting to check this place for awhile after seeing it on social media. The place is a lot smaller than I expected but the food and service made up for the size of the restaurant. The food was really good. I tried the breaded pork loin, cazuela de frijoles and steak topped with mushroom sauce. Everything was really great and the portions were very generous. Be cautious because they charge the gratuity automatically on the bill even for small groups. I don't mind this but if you aren't paying attention you could be over tipping. read more

Everything about this restaurant was incredible! I dined here with my boyfriend on a Friday night. The appetizer tostones con guacamole y chicharron was delicious. We also ordered a refajo (It's a traditional Colombian cocktail made with beer and "Colombiana", which is a soda from Colombia. It is a very simple and quick recipe but refreshing) I wanted to try their chicken and boy oh boy their chicken was so flavorful. I definitely recommend their roasted chicken. My boyfriend and I shared the bandeja paisa which is a typical Colombian dish. It was so filling; everything on that plate tasted good. I really liked the beans and the chicharron; the chicharron wasn't hard to chew which I have experienced before at other Colombian restaurants. It was a lively restaurant experience, there were a good amount of tables filled up and as our main entree arrived I realized it was because the Colombian soccer team had a game going on at the time I was dining at the restaurant. Great restaurant to watch a soccer game over some yummy food. The service from the staff was friendly and the ambiance was top notch. The restaurant went wild when the Colombian soccer team scored. I've been coming to this restaurant for years, this is the neighborhood I grew up in, and it's always been a place my family and I supported. Over time, prices have gone up significantly, which I understand and have accepted. To be clear, the initial order mistake was mine, not the server's. However, the issue was how it was handled afterward. The plate was not touched, and I immediately asked for it to be corrected because my friend has a mushroom allergy. Despite explaining the allergy and the food being untouched, I was told I would still be fully charged for the plate. We were also a party of two, yet automatic gratuity was added. What should have been about a $72 bill ended up being $125. Even factoring in everything we actually consumed, the total was still $92, plus being charged for a dish that wasn't eaten at all.I left feeling disappointed rather than valued as a long-time customer. Mistakes happen, including my own, but empathy and reasonable discretion go a long way. Unfortunately, this experience cost them a customer who had supported them for years. read more

I do really love this spot a lot, considering that there are so many Colombian spots in College Point. I love their bandeja paisa with carne asada, their mora juice is pretty good and their pollo asado is really juicy. If I'm in the mood for Colombian food and not in the mood to drive out to Jackson Heights, this is the place to go. The only thing I do not really like is their service, the waitress are usually friendly or their not, if you order over the phone, they are usually pretty rushy and not too polite. I am a member of the masonic lodge that meets next door, and we order food from here frequently. We usually get a few chickens, half tray of rice and beans, usually get a picada tray, and other items that I cannot pronounce. Their empanadas are pretty tasty. Their BBQ chicken is good, but I think it is a little overpriced for what you get. I want to say that they run about $12-15 per bird. I can go to BJ's and get it cheaper... But it does taste better than BJ's. It does have a very nice flavor to it. Is that flavor worth double the price? Because it is next door, and It can be ordered 2 hours in advance, I say yes. Im not the biggest rice and beans guy It really isn't a huge part of my culture, so sadly I don't appreciate it as much as many others do. I can say the same for the rest of their food. Im personally not a fan of plantains, again not my culture... But I am a fan of their picada plate! It might be picadenyo. I always get those 2 confused. Even though this is part of a chain it doesn't feel that way other then the consistent menu. This location is a bit on the small side but that doesn't take away from how good the food is. I can see where the mixed reviews come from. I came here on a Wednesday around 12:30pm. Not a lot of people, 3 tables were occupied but everyone was in and out for the lunch rush. The food was a hit or miss. We got the ceviche appetizer and the shrimp was so yummy but boy was the salsa SWEET. I didn't like that sugary aftertaste in my mouth...especially eating something like seafood right before it. The quesadilla was pretty good but were cut up super small. The pictures are definitely misleading. Each piece was probably 2 inches long (barely). +2 My absolute FAVORITE was the plantains and the chicken empanadas (especially their empanadas) though their hot sauce was basically mayo and sriracha. (but Mama's Empanadas is still my favorite) -1 star NO GUAC: Told us after she put in our order. We had to spend another 5 minutes looking for substitutes. -2 service: everything was fine and dandy until the waitress got too chatty with another table and didn't see us frantically waving at her. She kept on going back to them too. We told her we would like our food wrapped up and the bill, but she kept on getting sidetracked. The whole ordeal probably took 15 minutes? As you can see from pics, i ordered the special combo 2. Plus an extra large beans. What happened? They gave me a regular salad instead of avocado salad and forgot the green plantains. We called them and they tried to say that it didn't come with that combo. And the driver admitted he forgot the green plantains. Well we said that's on the menu and they said that it changed. She gave in and we got the avocado salad and the green plantains. But the driver requested the regular salad back which we gave him. So now we thinking that salad is proably going to go to another customer. And that is a violation. Good luck on your salad. Also the green sauce had no kick, no flavor. Chicken no flavor.
