I don't really eat from the location because prefer the steak and basil pasta from the Manhattan location but I wanted a meal for at least 3 people and this meal did have its con's unfortunately. $60 for the matador combo is a bit over priced when the tostones suckeddddddd, avocado was turning brown, and the fries were soggy as hell! The chicken I felt like had way too many brown pieces and not even white meat in it. Thankfully the hot dog pieces were good and the beans and rice were good. I did also like the dressing that was given for the salad. The cashier that was there on a Thursday night was pretty cold as well. No hello or smile! Pio Pio was always known for two things: great food at a great value. It is sadly neither of those things anymore. Pio Pio... is dead. The "lunch special" is now $14.50. That's a lot for a lunch special especially in the middle of nowhere Jackson Heights. For that handsome sum you get a quarter of a chicken, one side of your choice, a paltry side salad and a soda. You used to get avocado in your side salad but now that is an extra $1 for the two slices they will layer on top. I am also pretty sure you used to get two sides with the lunch special but I digress. With tax this came out to over $15. As if that isn't bad enough the chicken has really, really deteriorated and it's quite sad. The meat was mushy and overseasoned. It wasn't like unbearably salty but had enough of a salt flavor on it where you can pretty much eat it without the sauce. The tostones and green sauce remain just as good as I recall but the coup de resistance (the chicken) is sadly degraded to a point that it's not worth what they are charging. The side salad is about as sad as you would expect (see picture). Mine had a solid pool of water at the bottom most likely from when they washed the lettuce and didn't bother to drain it properly. RIP Pio Pio. It was probably already dead for several years to be fair as I had been to this one and Pio Pio 2 post-COVID and have had a similar experience. I was really hoping they were just getting their legs back under them and have returned to their previous glory but that is not the case. They have survived but it seems that whatever soul once existed in this great establishment died during the pandemic. Stay away. You'll get just as good (if not better) food at your local Peruvian chicken joint at cheaper prices. read more

This Pio Pio is located across the street from the dine in restaurant. It's mainly for takeout but there are also a few tables inside. The food here is good just like the main restaurant. Prices are a bit high but the dish sizes are huge! I had a shrimp arroz chaufa (basically fried rice) and it was very good and full of shrimp. It could have easily fed 3 or 4 people. I also got a jalea and it was so much food! Could have easily fed a family! It had fried shrimp, baby octopus, calamari, fish filets, and yuca. I've been to the beautiful Hell's Kitchen location a number of times and used to dream about the juicy and flavorful Juanita chicken soaked in that green sauce. We wanted to try the location closer to our home and came here. So, there's 2 sections (there's a larger restaurant for people who dine in and a smaller location across the street for people ordering take out). Covid-19 Review. I had been calling them everyday since the shutdown began. Once I heard an actual person answer the phone, I was so happy. First question: Are you open? Yes What are your hours? My coworkers and I ordered take out from here on a couple of occasions when I worked in NYC. The expierence with the service and food is really hit or miss. Service was friendly the first time, then the next time they were rude af. As for the food, the white meat chicken is very flavorful and juicy and the rice and beans really hit (especially when you put their specials sauces on top). The salad is meh ... and the yucca is trash. I've never had Yucca so dry in my life before. I like ceviche but not from restaurants that serve Peruvian chicken. I tried a few pieces and it was so damn dry. No leche de tigre.. really no liquid whatsoever. The fish didn't taste fresh. Ceviche is not difficult to make! I tried literally one bite of the chicken and it was so bland...No wonder they need to give their green sauce. I knew the food would suck at the take out place. So I was introduced to this franchise of restaurants by my Ex. As locations goes it is a basic open table concept that lends for a non-crowded feel. And this location for the given area is quite nice and modern. The menu lends to great options and is Vegan companion friendly on a limited scale. The libations i.e. their sangria the white or red was amazingly tasty. And the food overall once it arrived which took a bit was just okay nothing to call home about......but not bad. In terms of service my experience was lack luster and far in between but I guess considering we were a group of 10 folk, it was better then most places I suppose. PIO PIO to go is a nice quaint restaurant/take out. The place has about 4 to 6 small tables for seating and is just across the street from the PIO PIO restaurant. Food is the same old goodies from across the street. This is the place to go to if you are with another person or small group. It also opens a little earlier than the PIO PIO restaurant. Also, what is amazing about this place is that they have a LUNCH special which the restaurant is lacking. PERFECT if you want to order a matador-like combo just for two people, instead of the ginormous portions the other restaurant gives. Service is decent. I really like Pio Pio's food and there just happens to be a restaurant on Northern Boulevard by M.O.'s. But sometimes we're not in the mood to dine out. So it's pretty convenient that there's a to-go location across the street from the restaurant focusing only on takeout orders. In regards to their delivery time, they arrive very fast. There are some drawbacks though. The fried items don't turn out that great. So the texture of the tostones or salchipapas will be a bit off from being trapped in a container of steam. I recommend staying away from the fried items to maximize your experience. read more
