The "lunch special" in all its glory.
    Thomas M.

Pio Pio was always known for two things: great food at a great value. It is sadly neither of those things anymore. Pio Pio... is dead. The "lunch special" is now $14.50. That's a lot for a lunch special especially in the middle of nowhere Jackson Heights. For that handsome sum you get a quarter of a chicken, one side of your choice, a paltry side salad and a soda. You used to get avocado in your side salad but now that is an extra $1 for the two slices they will layer on top. I am also pretty sure you used to get two sides with the lunch special but I digress. With tax this came out to over $15. As if that isn't bad enough the chicken has really, really deteriorated and it's quite sad. The meat was mushy and overseasoned. It wasn't like unbearably salty but had enough of a salt flavor on it where you can pretty much eat it without the sauce. The tostones and green sauce remain just as good as I recall but the coup de resistance (the chicken) is sadly degraded to a point that it's not worth what they are charging. The side salad is about as sad as you would expect (see picture). Mine had a solid pool of water at the bottom most likely from when they washed the lettuce and didn't bother to drain it properly. RIP Pio Pio. It was probably already dead for several years to be fair as I had been to this one and Pio Pio 2 post-COVID and have had a similar experience. I was really hoping they were just getting their legs back under them and have returned to their previous glory but that is not the case. They have survived but it seems that whatever soul once existed in this great establishment died during the pandemic. Stay away. You'll get just as good (if not better) food at your local Peruvian chicken joint at cheaper prices.

    Ensalada De Avocado

We placed our order via Ubereat with assigned time. The order went smoothly and we received it on time. However, it was a little overpriced because of its portion. We had their Whole Juanita's Chicken, Ensalada De Avocado and Mixto. The food tasted decent, especially the Mixto, it was flavorful & cooked properly. What really disappointed us was the whole chicken. We added extra $4 to have all dark meat but it's totally not worth $27 for these four thighs.

I've been to the beautiful Hell's Kitchen location a number of times and used to dream about the juicy and flavorful Juanita chicken soaked in that green sauce. We wanted to try the location closer to our home and came here. So, there's 2 sections (there's a larger restaurant for people who dine in and a smaller location across the street for people ordering take out). We ordered the Matador combo for $42 - which came with a whole Juanita Chicken, yellow rice, fries with hot dogs, beans, avocado salad and sweet plantains. the chicken was surprisingly a bit on the dry side and the avocado on the side looks like it was gonna go bad soon. Overall, the food was ok but I would love to go back to their Manhattan locations.

I ordered half chicken with rice. How did no one tell me how delicious the chicken is from this place and with the green sauce ! Abolsutely divine. The rice had garlic in it I want to say. This time the rice was a bit underdone for me but flavor wise was really great! It's definitely a great place to order delicious chicken from. Will try more sides in the future.

This was my first time going Pio Pio 5 To Go I usually go to the Pio Pio across street. I came for lunch after setting reservations for the dine-in for my birthday. I had the lunch combo Chicken white meat, yellow rice bean, and salad. You can tell the food was freshly made especially for a to go location. They give a few great amount of food. They have green sauce to put on the chicken it have a nice spicy kick to it. I love it. If I lived closer this would be lunch everyday.

Covid-19 Review. I had been calling them everyday since the shutdown began. Once I heard an actual person answer the phone, I was so happy. First question: Are you open? Yes What are your hours? We are here till 9 pm Are you selling your delicious sangria? Yes, but you have to purchase food. Do you take cash? Yes Ok, I'll see you in a few. They had removed all indoor tables and chairs to make room for patrons to wait. The line outside was not that long, and it was mainly people who had placed an online order. I should had done that, but why? It's not like I have anywhere to go. Ordered the Matador and two glasses of sangria, which were served in the small plastic food soup containers. Prices were the same, which I appreciated. There is someone inside ensuring that everyone keeps their distance from each other. The wait wasn't that bad because their kitchen looked well staffed. Everyone inside was wearing masks, gloves and shields. I must note that this isn't the big location instead it's the one on the corner. If you are in the mood for good sangria, I suggest you place your online order, support local business and enjoy!

    Yucca (dry af)
    Jordan B.

My coworkers and I ordered take out from here on a couple of occasions when I worked in NYC. The expierence with the service and food is really hit or miss. Service was friendly the first time, then the next time they were rude af. As for the food, the white meat chicken is very flavorful and juicy and the rice and beans really hit (especially when you put their specials sauces on top). The salad is meh ... and the yucca is trash. I've never had Yucca so dry in my life before. All in all, Pio Pio will do in a pinch if you're hungry; however, for the prices they charge here you may be better off going elsewhere.

Love Pio. Chic is so moist and flavorful. Green sauce is the bomb. You can never go wrong with the empanadas. Lunch special is great.

The ladies who take your order always have a bad attitude. Not sure why. Different hostess...same bad attitude. Not welcoming at all.

The service was attentive throughout our visit. We ordered several appetizers, including anticuchos, rachi, and salchipapas. Everyone enjoyed them, especially the salchipapas. For my main course, I had the tallarín verde with steak. The steak was cooked perfectly, but I felt it could have used a bit more seasoning. My husband ordered the goat stew, which he really enjoyed. If you're looking for authentic Peruvian cuisine, this is a great place to visit. The purposeful interior design of this restaurant sets it apart from other JH restaurants. Food: Mini Jalea is definitely a showstopper, there's nothing mini about it. The grilled chicken thighs on top of it was also fantastic. Service was solid. No notes, it was an all around 5 star dining experience.

Sadly, those days are long gone, and it's now obvious why. The quality has gone way downhill. The chicken portions are noticeably smaller, but that's not even the worst part. What really shocked me was how I was treated when trying to make a simple, health-conscious request. I attempted to order two white meat meals, as both my mother and I have cholesterol issues and cannot eat dark meat. I was told I had to order a mix of white and dark meat, that they "don't allow" two white meat meals. Even after explaining the health concerns, they still refused. The only "solution" offered was to buy a half chicken (with dark meat we can't eat) and then purchase an additional quarter white meat. On top of that, they tried to charge me an extra $3 for it. Being told what I can and cannot order especially when it relates to a health issue is absurd. And trying to sneak in extra charges for a workaround that they forced on me? That's just bad business. This place has lost its heart and its standards. If you're thinking about coming here ...don't. There are far better spots that actually care about their customers
