Food is great the people are friendly the place is clean will definitely go back again

We decided to try them out - it was a mixed bag. We started with chips and queso. The white queso was very good and the chips (I think they were fried on-site - had a great texture) were really good. There were three salsas. The red salsa had a good flavor but it was literally as runny as water and wouldn't stay on the chip. The green salsa had a good flavor at first but then the crazy salty aftertaste kicked in - way too much salt. The 'orange' salsa had a very good flavor and some heat - I liked it. My wife had the Papa Asada. We were expecting a baked potato with carne asada and pepper jack cheese. It is actually the inside of the baked potato mixed with maybe some chicken broth and a LOT of pepper. The pepper overwhelmed everything. The carne asada itself was very good. I had the half chicken dinner. The chicken was very good - flavorful and moist. The corn tortillas were also very moist and considering I'm not a fan of corn tortillas, they were good. The charro beans were ok - not bad but not great. The rice had a good flavor. So - a mixed bag - over seasoning was the big issue. Would we go back? Maybe. read more

Perfectly flame roasted chicken, marinated, tender, full of flavor. I usually order the same half chicken with rice & charro beans. The rice is very good, you can taste the spices. Charro beans are especially good, full of flavor, made with chicharon for enhanced taste. After a few dining experiences, I would definitely recommend for food quality consistency. Service level is usually good as well. The only challenge sometimes is getting an ice tea refill or getting my bill. That's why I order my iced tea in a to go cup, and just request a refill when I walk up to the front counter to pay. Other than that, the restaurant is clean, employees are friendly, food is very good. Eventually I will explore the menu more, but it's hard to resist the delicious chicken! read more

Pretty good chicken, the staff is ok and they will charge you for the green sauce but overall ok.

Just moved to the area and wanted to explore what there is to eat in La Vernia. We were not disappointed here. Everything tasted fresh and the restaurant itself was very spacious and clean. The service was nice too, quick. We enjoyed everything we tried. I especially liked that the melon Agua Fresca had real chunks in it. I'm originally from California and the chicken was on par to what I would expect. We will definitely be back. read more

We were in La Vernia and wanted to h get some grub. Randomly picked Pollos El Gallo based on interwebs search / where we were. It was great! Started off with chips and salsa while we decided what to get. They brought out yummy chips and 3 sauces. 1 of the 3 was just OK, and IMHO, more suited to eggs. But the other 2 were great and I started diving in. I especially loved the green tomatillo-ish salsa We then got a beef fajita and 1/2 chicken plate. The chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Well seasoned and prepared. The beef fajitas were ok to great. Some pieces were super tender and flavorful, other pieces a tad tough. But still good. Mexican sausage was very good too. I also got a bacon wrapped jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese. I could have made a meal of those. They were also phenomenal. Just an overall great experience there. read more

New restaurant in La Vernia, TX. Since they just opened they are short staffed and wait time is long, please have patience. Placed an order to go over the phone and picked up about 40 minutes later. Parking lot was at capacity and people were starting to create their own parking spots. Inside there was a line but after talking with the people in line, it was a mixture of people picking up food, people wanting to get a table, and some trying to pay. It was very chaotic and unorganized Inside. Everyone is working as hard as they can and I appreciate their kindness. I ordered the chicken plate and the super papa. Everything was delicious and still hot by the time I got home. Portions are large so I have leftovers for tomorrow. The Super Papa was supposed to come with Carne asada but only had cheese and bacon. Double check your orders. Guacamole is pricey but very good. Love their green sauce and grilled onions. Will definitely be ordering more. read more

I don't care what Gina says, the food is amazing. Yup, this place sure ain't for tree hugging hippies that eat salads and tofu. It's a man's meal!! So if you have a sensitive stomach or a weak mind, stay home. This food will put meat on your bones and protein in your veins. read more

Great new option in the growing city of La Vernia! Ordered the 1/2 chicken plate off of their 'soft opening' menu and was not disappointed. Chicken was expertly cooked, charro beans served piping hot. If I did have to ding them in anything it would be the rice. Eh, it's okay. And maybe that my jalapeño was only partially grilled. That's really digging deep for a complaint though. I definitely will be back for another nicely priced plate of delicious chicken. Oh, and make sure to try that green salsa! Yummy! read more

Came here when it first opened couple months ago. The food was ok. The chicken was very much over cooked, it had flavor though. The beef short ribs tasted like rubber, so over cooked and so tough to even take a bite, again lots of flavor. The beans and rice were good. We waited 15 mins for a waiter to come over our table when we first sat down. Im thinking they were probably low staffed that day. Overall, I will not be back. read more

Just do yourself a favor and go to the Pollos Asados off Rigsby, this place has a nice location but food is just average.

We are new to town and Simone told us about this place. So glad they did it was an unbelievable experience. The food and drink were amazing but our server Yuvi was incredible and made all the difference. Their $8 half chicken special is my go to lunch entree or if you're feeling different, they have some mouth watering quesadillas accompanied by some delicious jalapeño bombers!! The take out was fast! Sadly I haven't been able to get in, but one thing I did notice was the food itself was very textured and I found it a little less enjoyable because of that. Walked in at 6:00 on a Tuesday evening and it was almost deserted at prime dinner time. should have been a huge red flag. Eaten here once before and it was borderline bad, but wanted to give it a chance to redeem itself. it felt flat on its face. Horrible. One if the worst burgers ever, and the French fries were just greasy strips of completely unseasoned potatoes. double Horrible. wife's baked potato was smothered in white cheese and gristley steak strips! She had to dump pico de gallon on it just to choke down half. Nasty. Daughter quesadillas that she normally devours everywhere else, she didn't even eat half of one! Really, don't waste your time, surprised they're even still in business!
