On this days adventure I found myself in Seguin at the "Power Plant Texas Grill". But let's start from the beginning, as you arrive you are greeted by an incredible view of the river and the restaurant that was once an old power plant (hence the name). Parking is little limited but on the side of the establishment is an auxiliary parking. As you walk inside you see the old power station. As you enter you are taking to your seat, either inside or in the patio area to see the view of the river. The personnel are very helpful and kind, they answer any questions regarding the menu. Now the food I choose the "Pecan Crusted Chicken" with a side salad and "Poblano Corn", there are many options for your sides to make it your choice. As far as the taste of the meal, it was delicious and outstanding flavors, I highly recommend this place. read more

Dear Power Plant, What a great location you have. Too bad your staff was just standing around. The restrooms are filthy. Guests were having to come to the bar to check out, because their waiter was talking at the bar. Drinks were good enough. Nothing to write home about. Food was just okay. We spoke to an employee about the men's room. She blamed it on the fact there was no busser?!? Location is fabulous... it could be so much more. This restaurant looked interesting when I was combing through Yelp on a recent stay in Seguin for work. Their rating is pretty low and I wasn't sure why, but I came anyway. Their menu is average sized with apps, a senior menu, kids menu, salads, burgers/sandwiches, pastas, entrees and desserts. They also have a happy hour menu with specials ranging from $1 - $9. They even have cocktails with Power Plant themed names. I was in the mood for steak and unfortunately this town seems to be void of steaks for some reason; however, the Power Plant offers one on their menu. I chose a steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. They indicated the steak of the day was a ribeye, but I've never seen a ribeye shaped like this before, it was long and skinny like a skirt steak, or a strip. Ribeye - tender for the most part and tasty. Almost tasted like a flat iron steak, but somehow this was actually a ribeye despite its unusual shape. Long piece of gristle across one entire side and fat cap at the end. This 12oz steak was more like 9 oz after removing all of that. Green beans - basic canned beans with several bacon chunks Mashed potatoes- chunky with brown gravy. The bread that comes with this is basically 2 ends of a griddled hot dog bun. Service was ok as the waitress came around a couple of times to check on me. She forgot to ask me how I wanted the steak cooked, and also came back to tell me she originally gave me the wrong price for it. It ended up being around $25, as opposed to $22 as she originally indicated. I also added a homemade brownie with ice cream to go. This was a pretty average brownie dessert. read more

If you're looking for a place that has a nice atmosphere then this is the place for you! However, if you want your food to be full of flavor and worth every penny, this is definitely not the place for you. It seems as if they object to using salt and pepper to season their food. Don't expect anything special, their corn tastes like it came straight out of the can. On top of the horrible food and dirty dishes, the service was also mediocre at best. If the tip wasn't already included in the gratuity , he wouldn't have made a dime. He was rude and not attentive. I'm sure there are other places in the area to enjoy. Delicious and what a view!!! Bathrooms could use a little work considering there are no latches on the stalls and the smell is a bit much but all that aside we enjoyed our afternoon. Didn't have too many people there that day so we practically had the place to ourselves. I had the chicken fried chicken. Nieves was our server, we had a nice discussion regarding fun things to do in the area. We settled on a Southwest salad and meatloaf dish and both were good. The restaurant itself is located in a historical power plant with a quirky vibe to it. Star Wars memorabilia and such. There was seating in the back of the restaurant as well with views of the area. Probably wouldn't want to sit there in the heat of the summer though! Bathrooms are also in the back of the restaurant near the patio dining area and they were clean. The service was great our waitress was really nice and I loved the energy! But I can't say the same about the food. I got a chef salad and the chicken was rubbery not to mention the salad itself just didn't taste right. My dad got the marinated teriyaki pork chops with mashed potatoes but when he tried to eat the mashed potatoes they weren't at all mashed. Amazing food with an industrial setting. Our party choose the outside seating so we can view the Guadalupe River. Highly recommend enjoying your meal out on the patio. Hearing the water flow off the small dam by the river is soothing. Establishment was clean and loved the service Chris provided. He gave great recommendations, such as the Frog Dip, and made sure our drinks were always filled. You should ask for him if available. The Stuffed Jalapeños are not spicy but being stuffed with cream cheese and chopped brisket made up for it. I do recommend passing up on the Chips & Queso and get the Frog Dip. You still get the queso and it comes with more ingredients. Rueben Sandwich tasted good. The sauerkraut didn't overpower the sandwich and neither did the dressing. After your meal, take a stroll on the sky bridge for a better view of the river and even their private dining area. Good picture opportunities. I would be prepared to walk a little ways as the front parking lot is small and gets full quickly. After a full day of moving into our new home, my son and I wanted to treat our helpers to a nice meal. We chose PowerPlant Grill because the atmosphere is genuinely lovely -- we walked in and immediately loved the look of the place. Since it was a pleasant evening, we sat outside. The view was fantastic, and we even got to watch a few bats make their evening exit. It should have been the perfect end to a long day. Unfortunately, that's where the good part ends. We waited an entire hour for our food. Not an exaggeration -- a full hour. I wish I could say the meal was worth the wait, but it was almost as disappointing as the service. I'd love to blame the kitchen, but after watching multiple tables who arrived after us get their food well before we did, it's hard not to assume our server forgot to put in our order or simply wasn't paying attention. For the price we paid, the quality of both the food and the service was nowhere near acceptable. We eat out often and were hoping this would become one of our new local favorites. Instead, it was an expensive letdown on a night when we really needed something easy and enjoyable. I truly hope they improve, because the setting has so much potential -- but based on this visit, we won't be rushing back. read more

What a complete disappointment. This former power plant boasts such amazing scenery with a natural water feature and I just wish the owners would use that more to their benefit. What an amazing attraction this could be not just for locals or folks passing through. It could be a true destination spot. The food tasted like it came directly from the food supply vendor without much thought put into it. Why not cook and add great flavors? Why not have themed meals or drinks to play off the beautiful and natural surroundings? I had a strawberry margarita that tasted like warm Kool-Aid with a couple ice cubes tossed in. The queso tasted like it was poured straight from an industrial sized can. Our server was a young and sweet kid; I can't help but think how much more he could get in tips with a revamp that would bring more guests. After coming from a house tour, we were told about this place. To be honest, we had seen the building from across the river while at the park, but didn't know this was a restaurant. We came at a good time and were seated right away. I was able to get a protein-style burger, and the lettuce they wrapped it in was quality. The iced tea was huge, so you won't be thirsty. They even came with a large glass of extra ice because it had melted in the original drink. The service was good. And even though the outside patio has better views of the river, the inside was just as nice for us, plus you had air conditioning, and you could see all the power equipment. The bathrooms are a bit tricky to find, but are clean, and no issues there. Parking seemed to fill up fast, and there's a little road to another parking lot behind it, so you may have to walk. The building is historic & pretty cool & right on a park (I was a little disappointed that the soil was so compacted in the park, stressing the trees & that a really nice bald cypress is struggling with an infestation of grapevine that is blocking photosynthesis). The food was pretty good. I really wanted a veggie burger with fries, but they didn't have a veggie burger. I had the mahi mahi instead. It's wasn't the best mahi I ever had, but it was good. Great find on a road trip! Found this spot on yelp as we were driving home and am very happy we went off the beaten path. The location was super cool (next time we will come during the day so we can see the water) and the food was delish. My kids had the mini corn dogs and catfish- but their favorite was the chips and queso (mom and dad approved too). We had the crispy Brussels to start and that balsamic sauce they are soaked in was KILLER good. We were imagining all the ways we could cook with it! I had the shrimp rissotto which was very good (white wine cream sauce ) and my husband had the burger and house made chips (he said his was very good). This is a must for great food and views. Tucked in Seguin, this old power plant has the best views of the Guadalupe river. We sat in a back area featuring windows all around and a bunch of the old machinery in the space. So unique and fun for groups. The food was very good, the star of the show was definitely the risotto. Super creamy and flavorful, with large shrimp. The steak of the day was cooked perfectly and the sides were very delicious. I love the combination of the home style cooking and the unique venue. When you're all done don't forget to take some beautiful pictures by the water. We've been waiting to come visit after seeing this place on The DayTripper and We are so glad we did! We day trip anyway and it was a great drive. A wonderful place to have a meal in a scenic location. The kids and "adults" loved looking at the turbine, generator controls and other left over power plant decor. Plus the other things on the walls inside and on the patio. If it is pleasant, definitely snag a table on the patio. The food was tasty, we had the meatloaf plate, the bison burger and 2 kids meals (chicken tenders and mini corn dogs). Let's just say only crumbs were left by all diners... What is this place suppose to be; bar, restaurant, hangout, need den? Yes!! Location is the old power plant and has been mostly gutted/remodeled, but the original walls, ceiling and a few turn-of-the-center machines are in-place. Very cool atmosphere. The additional of Star Wars and other various geek/Americana/man cave decor keeps it fun. Summer is a bummer for the outdoor seating areas, due to heat, but the views and sounds of the water rushing by and a neat trade-off. Food is solid, nothing unique but my wife and I enjoyed it. First of all, the building is gorgeous and the outside view is just as stunning. It was pretty busy, but we only had a 10 minute wait. Decided to meet up with my parents here for Sunday lunch! We were all having FOMO every time a server holding appetizers walked by and we decided next time we stop by, we're just going to get a ton of apps to share! I got the pecan crusted chicken with green beans and mixed veggies. Absolutely delicious, the chicken was cooked perfectly and super moist. I could eat it multiple times a week and be content. Green beans were good, mixed veggies were just meh. My mom got the risotto and was blown away, perfectly creamy and cheesy- it almost tasted like a fancy Mac and cheese in the best way possible. Dad had the Cajun pasta and loved it as well, only wishing it was a bit spicier. (Keep in mind he has basically burned his tastebuds off at this point with his love of hot sauce- so take that with a grain of salt) Overall awesome experience and we can't wait to go back and try more! This restaurant has a unique location in an old power plant building. The atmosphere is nice, with a large covered outdoor seating area and a nice river view. We had a group of 17 people, and the service was good for such a large group (though we did have to ask for tea refills). Some of the favorite dishes ordered by the group were pecan crusted chicken, salmon with mango salsa, stuffed mushrooms and salads. The house-made chips were also a hit. Those of us who ordered meatloaf did not feel it lived up to the server's recommendation - we agreed we would go with something else on our next trip. read more
