My car was damaged while at Polly's Service Center for an oil change. When I picked up my car, Polly's had it parked across the street on Belmont Blvd. My oil change was on Thursday, 10/19, my car remained parked in my driveway until Sunday, 10/22, when I noticed the damage. I called Polly's Monday morning, 10/23, and they told me the owner was out of town and nothing could be done until he returned the following Monday, 10/30 (today). I called this afternoon, and the owner, Kenny, told me the damage absolutely did not happen there - though it did, and that it's been too long now anyway, so there wasn't anything he'd do about it. How can Polly's guarantee the damage did not happen while in their care when they parked my car across the street on Belmont Blvd., where it could easily have been side-swiped? Mr. Kenny and team are great. Having a nearly 50-year old Bronco, there's always something that needs to be worked on and fortunately older cars are their specialty. There's been a couple times I was convinced the problem was something that needed to be replaced (and expensive) only to have them work their magic and have it running as good as new for only a fraction of what I thought it would cost. Im not saying that every fix will be cheap, but these are some of the most honest mechanics in town. Don't even bother to stop here! The rudest front desk person I have ever met and the most incompetent mechanics. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and stopped in a second time after they charged me to tell me they couldn't help me with my car issue the first time I came here after being recommended by a co-worker. Second time, I had a flat on the way to work, but wouldn't even offer to put air in the tire let alone patch it. I brought my old Honda CRV in with the hopes of just needing the brake fluid topped off. There's a lot wrong with her, and it's a waiting game at this point to see when she stops running. I got a call about an hour after dropping her off. Brake lines are rusted and leaking, and the repair would cost more than the car is worth. The owner filled up my brake fluid free of charge and sent me on my way. I know I was given bad news, but it was delivered kindly, honestly, and without an attempt to gouge me. They went above and beyond with their service. Honesty is highly valued in almost any industry, but it's particularly rare in auto repair. I highly recommend Polly's! read more

I love this place. I have been taking my car there for over 15 years for routine maintenance and for particular issues. They have never ever recommended work that is not needed. I have taken my car when I thought maybe the brakes needed replacing, and they have told me that I could wait another 10,000 miles. In other words, given the opportunity to replace parts before needed, they still didn't take it. They are not necessarily "cheap," but you get great quality service and a number of interesting personalities to boot! read more

OK, it has happened to everyone. You're already having a bad day, then something goes wrong with your car! Never fear - Polly's Service Center to the rescue. If your vehicle is really, really sick they have a towing service, which for a reasonable fee will come to you and tow in your car! This happened to me and the folks at Polly's could not have been more helpful. Native Nashvillians, the staff at Polly's explained to me that a mechanic would perform an inspection and call me with a "diagnosis" and estimate. True to their word, they called within one hour. The parts were ordered and my car was ready that afternoon. Their prices are very reasonable considering what you would pay at a dealership! When I was there I had just gotten my new Tennessee car tag, so the friendly mechanic offered to put it on for free! You can't argue with that!! The best thing about Polly's is that they really try to make you feel appreciated as a customer. They know all too well that having major car problems is the source of a great deal of stress, and they let you know they are fixing the problem as soon as possible. When it was time to change my spark plugs, a simple task compared to the engine trouble I had previously, there was no question where I was going for this routine care! My alternator went out in my Camry. I called hundreds of shops around the Nashville area to get quotes on fixing this. The shop I originally towed my car to was disrespectful to me personally on the phone within seconds of speaking and outrageous in their pricing. Turned away by their customer service, I was recommended Polly's Service Center from a friend. Kenny (owner) and Adam (mechanic) were fantastic for a multitude of reasons. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and very quickly got me speaking directly to the mechanic. Adam went through all of the issues and costs and it was by far the lowest quote I had gotten out of 20+ calls. They also had a great connection for the towing company that got my car from the first place that was terrible to their shop. Within two hours, my car was completely fixed! I used to get routine oil changes at Polly's when I lived down the street. They were always incredibly friendly and prompt. I moved to Arizona for a bit but am back in Nashville now and needed someone to look at my car; I recently had a flat replaced (not at Polly's...which was my first mistake) and it has not driven the same since the incident. I dropped the car off at 8:30am. The woman who runs the office has to be one of the nicest/funniest people in Nashville. She listened to everything I thought might be wrong with the car, took notes, asked me for the keys and I was on my way. By 11am I had a quote and by 12pm my car was ready to be picked up. They test drove my car, took all four tires off, checked the rotors and the brake pads, rotated my tires (because for some reason the employees at Firestone put two new tires on the back instead of the front when I got my flat replaced), and then test drove it again. They also checked all my fluids and adjusted the tire pressure in all of my tires. And all I'm getting charged for are the two new rotors. I can't say enough about Polly's, I recommend them to all of my friends. They are always busy (open at 7am, the mechanics go home at 5 but the office is open until 7) but they always manage to provide speedy service. If you're leery of shady auto shops and just want a no hassle experience, I highly recommend Polly's. read more

I'd gone to Crest for Honda an oil change (they have specials to lure you in)... I knew the'd come up with at least $600 worth of work they wanted to do, and they did. $400 or so worth of Crest's estimate I got done at Polly's for $214 and the rest - meh, doesn't need it except for the wipers which were oddly very reasonably priced at Crest. Polly's is a lot like what gas station used to be, it's straight out of the late 70's, but in a good way. I've never personally gotten the negativity or $100 oil change, all I know is when dealerships won't return my calls Polly's has always done so, cost a reasonable amount, and didn't pull the entire engine apart to find carbon scoring on the side of a capacitor that will cost $600 to fix but really doesn't need to be fixed for the next 6 years. I don't know, there's something refreshing about that smoke filled establishment, knowing that they're there to get something done and then to get you on the way. You can say the other companies are being proactive in finding all of these things, or you could say they're expecting you to be reactive and give them a carte blanche. I don't feel I get that with Pollys. Now, here's the thing - I pretty much hate all car repair places, I have extremely good reason to. I do not hate Polly's. Polly's does not stare at me dumbfounded when I say "yeah, I know that's an issue, I'm fixing it myself" or, for that matter, even bat an eye. Eh, I don't know... if you need serious customer service skills or handholding, probably not going to be the place for you. They seem to be a decent bunch that focus on getting it done and probably are not going to grill you on the finer points of your day. This past repair, which took them about 2 or 3 hours to do, would have taken me 5, would have required another jack, and would have frozen my ass off. It cost $41 more than I would have been able to do it for myself, took 3 hours less, and at no time did I risk a car falling on me. Never again. I'm giving them 2 stars for decent service in the past, but it just isn't the same anymore. Customer service, for one. Everyone there seems ticked off all the time and not happy about having to work there. Last 2 times I brought my car in for repairs, the mechanics were irritated when I asked how long it would take - it wasn't an indictment, guys, I was trying to make plans. And they don't seem to be inclined to answer questions about the work. I get you might be busy, but I'm getting ready to cross your palm with much green, so you should give me a few minutes of your time. Timeliness is another issue here. I realize they are small, but other service centers send out to parts places throughout the day to get parts the same day. Polly's doesn't seem to do that. In case you are thinking I'm being unreasonable and I needed some unusual part for an uncommon foreign car, think again. I'm talking tires for a Toyota. I rolled in on a flat around 2pm and was told it would be the next day before they could get the tire I needed. read more

As a poor college student at Belmont I drove a 12 year old Honda Civic. She never had knock out drag down problems, but I did take her to Polly's for a few things here and there upon recommendation of a fellow student for proximity and honesty. I got both. Problem 1: my trunk would not close. I had taken it to a service station off West End and they quoted me a price including parts. Okay. Took my car to Polly's. Dude comes out with a crowbar, fiddles around with the latch, strong arms the back of my car for awhile and Voila! my trunk shut and continued to shut for years to come! The price? I bought that guy a pack of cigarettes. Seriously - honest nice guys. Problem 2: needed brakes. Fair price (according to my dad) and it was done in a day. They will give you good natured ribbing for foreign cars, I got told numerous times I should get a Ford. They're just honest and funny. If you want to pay more at some sparkling clean chain joint in Cool Springs - go for it. I couldn't care less if a mechanic shop looks tidy or the people are customer service experts. If you don't mind car service that cost more, takes longer, and is makes the customer feel like a nuance then Polly's Shell is a great fit for you! I have taken a number of vehicles to Polly's over a period of about 5 years. For some reason I keep going back, but after this last $100 oil change I am done. The service representative is rude and coarse and generally hates her job from what I can tell. I can understand that and look past it. They tend to be a more expensive than other places, but do decent work. We have had thermostats on two cars replaced there and didn't have any problems. However, we had break pads and rotors replaced there and they squeaked as we pulled out of the parking lot and didn't never stopped. (minor issue, if guess). Yesterday I went in for an oil change and asked for an estimate on replacing the power lock actuator on one of the doors. I received a call with the $350 quote and decided to wait on the repair. I was shocked when I picked up my vehicle to have a $100 bill for an oil change. Apparently estimates for doing a job cost an hour of labor (and I got a deal of 1/2 an hour). read more

Well, I certainly am not one to ever assume I could diagnose a car over the internet and order a part to fix it; that's what I would pay others to do for me. But I do know when I'm getting jerked around by someone. Before I relocated to Nashville, I used to get my car serviced by a mom and pop place that was completely honest, trustworthy and prompt. Those are characteristics that are pretty hard to come by nowadays. My business car was hurting pretty badly, and before I ditched it at over 200K miles, these guys were getting a lot of my business. The place is certainly no-frills, but the people that work there are straight shooters and know what they are doing. They repaired some things free of charge when they couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong and referred me to a good transmission place that finished the issue. Their prices are very fair and I have recommended them to numerous employees, all who have had great experiences. Fortunately, both cars I have now are newer so knock on wood, I shouldn't have much need for them in the near future. But if I do have car problems in the future, I'm going to these guys. read more

As a young female who is obviously clueless about cars, I was skeptical the first time I pulled up, but my car had major issues; and it was the closest shop. And thank heavens it was! Unfortunately my car decided to break down around 4:45, so the guys were only going to be there for a few more minutes, but I got a call by noon the next day saying my car was fixed and ready to be picked up. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect the cost to be, but my father, who is well-versed in cars, said they charged me a very fair price and was impressed with their honesty in not trying to F over a 20-something female who had no idea what could have been wrong with the car. My second time was today for an oil change. I called ahead to see if they'd have time, and one of the mechanics said he was about to pull a car out and would save the spot for me if I could get there ASAP. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Scammers. Took my car down to have the the brakes and oil changed since they had decent reviews. Ended up breaking our calipers and charging us over $600 to fix what was supposed to be a minor issue. Not to mention, their "oil change" consisted of resetting the message where the change oil indicator came back on only a few hundred miles later. I have always had a good experience with these mechanics. Typically when I get an estimate, I'll try to verify the true cost online or with friends who know about cars. After doing this, Polly's estimates typically check out. I am sure there are places that are cheaper, but at least here, I'm fairly confident I'm not getting hosed. Polly's is on Belmont Blvd. and places like this used to be the norm, back in grandpa's day, but now are few and far between. They sell gas AND they actually service cars. Our 2nd car is an 8 year old Toyota Camry. It has way over 100k miles and we got tired of going to the dealer, where they charge top dollar in addition to always finding more stuff to fix no matter why we are taking it in there. Polly's is convenient to our home and they charge less than the dealer. They aren't dirt cheap, but I would say at least 20% less than the big Toyota dealer charges. I guess the big dealer has to charge more to pay for all the ads they run. We have been to Polly's 3 times now, once for brakes, once for belt and water pump, and once for a tune up. Each time, they charged a fair price and the repairs were done correctly. I've been to other small shops in the past with my other car where I had to take a car back a 2nd time after they tried but failed to get it done right the 1st time. Talk about a major inconvenience. At Polly's, they know what they are doing and they seem like nice folks as well. As we also like to support our local neighborhood businesses, going back there is a no brainer. read more

I looked at their Yelp reviews and was convinced we would have a good experience, though nervous as you never know what to expect with mechanics. Had a negative experience at Polly's. Took my car in last week after hitting a curb and asked them to look at it due to the odd noise my car was making and to make sure my wheel wasn't messed up. They reported nothing was wrong. I paid the hour of labor and the car still makes the noise. I went back today and basically was told by the mechanic he didn't have time to ride around and listen for the noise and I should just go to the Ford dealership. Ok, so here's the deal. I went to Polly's today (Saturday) because I had a flat and was riding on my spare. I walked into the office where two workers were (one sitting, one standing). The sitting man told me they could do it and it would take approx 5 minutes, but that I would have to come back on Monday when they had more people were working. The guy was just sitting there. If I were Polly I'd look for a new worker. It was clear he was lazy, not busy. I wheeled over to the Green Hills gas station and they had one guy working. This means he was dealing with car repairs and manning the gas pumps, even pumping gas for individuals who selected full service. He fixed my flat and was genuinely nice. Summary: Skip Polly's unless you just need some gas. read more

We were actually recommended this place by another car shop too full for our business. Our car had a coolant leak that was more like a coolant waterfall. As soon as you poured anything in, it would hit the ground. So we needed a tow. First, they seemed to have it together. Then, they waited to call us to get the car keys when they already had it ready to tow and we were across town during rush hour. They then called us 4 times between 6 and 8 am the next morning asking where the keys were after we had already told them when we would drop them off. Then, 30 minutes after we dropped them off they called us, asking when we were coming and when we told us we had already been there asked us where the keys were! After all that, they never even found anything wrong with the car, the leak magically fixing itself, and we were stuck with a bill for almost $200. What a shop. read more
