Very chill spot! I love the vibe! The food was good & so were the drinks! Side note: they close early on Sundays at 2pm so I'll definitely be back during the week or Saturday!

Overall Poly Pop was a good experience. The place cool with a fun atmosphere. Our bartender was friendly when he was attentive. He never looked around to notice if we were trying to get his attention. We were waiting to pay so we could leave as we were on a schedule and it was so hard to get his attention. He never looked around the bar. He just looked down or at someone he was talking to. Drinks were really good, especially the espresso martini. It was taco Tuesday. Ordered chicken and rib tacos. The chicken was good but the rib was amazing. Worth a second visit.

It had been quite some time since I last visited Lake Jackson. The opportunity presented itself when my friend visited his family in the area over the holidays. We stopped by on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks. We sat at the bar. Ambiance (4.5/5): I love a good tiki bar and Poly Pop definitely fits the bill with its Hawaii vibes. Plus Christmas vibes as they were decorated for the holiday. It's a cool-looking restaurant in downtown Lake Jackson. I love the area surrounding Poly Pop as there are a bunch of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance. Parking is easy too. Service (4/5): Two bartenders served us. They weren't terribly busy and did a pretty good job. They could have been a little more attentive but solid overall. Food (4/5): I went with the elote ramen and a side of macaroni salad. I'll start with the macaroni. A simple yet classic Hawaiian side. If you've never had it, think of it as a creamy, cold salad. Somewhat similar to potato salad. The ramen was definitely a first for me. A combination of elote and ramen?! Say what?! While a little weird, it worked. The elote broth was served with noodles, cheese, corn, and green onions. It was a bit spicier than I expected (which is a con for me) and the noodles weren't great. Still solid overall and A+ for creativity. Drinks (4/5): They had a special holiday-themed menu along with their regular cocktails. This is what you should go with because this is a tiki bar after all. I sampled three cocktails (two off the regular menu and one off of the holiday menu). The honey bear had you guessed it . . . honey and was served in a bear-shaped glass. Plus apple cider. I also did a rum bucket, which is served in, you guessed it, a bucket and is for two or more people. Group drinks are always fun. Lei Low is my favorite tiki bar in Houston. I wouldn't put Poly Pop quite as high in terms of the sophistication of their drinks but I did enjoy what I had here. Poly Pop is a unique spot so definitely check it out if you're going out in downtown Lake Jackson!

This was an all around pleasant surprise. Fun atmosphere and our waitress was well versed in the cocktail menu. Started with apps of tamales and wings. Tamales were everything you'd want... moist and delicious! Wings had crispy skin and glazed perfectly with the raspberry habanero sauce. Magically a happy hour started at 8 on a Tuesday so it was yes to another round of drinks.

Cool ambiance Service was good The rib meat tacos- 4/5 in taste & 3/5 for portion size The smoked rib ramen- 2/5 in taste. I think too much was going on. I see the intention but it was a little complicated in flavors. The riblets- 5/5 i wish the portion was bigger. Really tender and would have them again. Prices- a little pricey. Prices are comparable to Jinya but they have better portions at least. At the end my guest and I left hungry and went somewhere else to eat to get full.

The food is great and the drinks were amazing. Our server was very helpful and the ambience is also good. It was very difficult to find a decent place for lunch or dinner near Surfside. We came across poly pop on Yelp and decided to give it a try since they had Ramen and bowl options. Their drink menu is pretty good. And their non alcoholic punch is also good. Don't skip their Hummingbird cake which is to die for! You will thank me later!

Y'all prepare yourself for overstuffing yourself. I didn't even get a chance to get a picture of the appetizer short ribs because they looked and smelled so delicious we absolutely devoured them. The Ramen and sandwich was also excellent. Outdoor seating was clean and cute. Can't wait to come back for more!

This is the Mexican Brunch Ramen with chorizo, corn, avocado, cilantro, feta cheese, jalapeño & soft boiled egg. Delicious!!!

The self proclaimed king of Houston tiki bars and speakeasies and I visited on a Thursday night. We were able to walk in without a reservation. I'm not sure what the capacity is, but the place is small. I'm guessing they can seat about 30 people max. During peak hours, they will limit you to 60 minutes and there's a two drink minimum. When we went, it wasn't at capacity and we were able to stay for a few hours. If you make a reservation online, you have to give your credit card info. It's a $25 charge if you cancel within 24 hours. If you don't want to make a reservation, they recommend visiting on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays. Ring the doorbell for entry. If they don't answer immediately, it's most likely because the hostess is seating another guest. I can't remember the hostess's name, but she was so nice and a super cool gal. The vibe is really cool, weird, bizarre, and trippy. We received a welcome drink which was some sort of rum tea. One of the bartenders came over and explained the menu. They have a lot of drinks to choose from and each drink has a story. The drinks are very unique and come with a nice presentation. I really enjoyed the Bitter Bird. Some of our friends joined us later on in the evening and the hostess moved us to a larger table. There were more people than we were expecting, but the staff did a great job of accommodating us. We ordered a massive drink meant for 4-6 people and it was boozy. You know you're in for a treat when you visit a place that describes itself as "somewhere between death and vacation." If this is what purgatory is like, I don't ever want to leave.

I'm all about tropical vibes so we made our way over for a nightcap. Located in a shopping center, parking won't be a problem. We were there pretty late on a Thursday night. Ambiance (4/5): Tiki bars are all about ambiance. Hawaii vibes. What's cool about The Great Kanakas Atomic Tiki Bar, outside of their excellent name, is that they're indoors but the bar makes you feel like you're actually outside. I liked the concept. Relaxed with the vibes you would expect at a tiki bar. Service (4.5/5): We sat at the bar and our bartender was attentive and friendly. She even recommended an off-the-menu drink that other folks like which was a nice touch. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet so I'm not even sure if they have food. Drinks (4/5): When you're at a tiki bar, you're looking for a creative mix of flavors with a nice presentation. I went with a cocktail with such a cool name that I couldn't say no. You'll know it when you see the menu. It's a long name, sounds very Hawaiian, and you'll have difficulty pronouncing it. You'll get a kick out of it. While the drink were solid, I've seen more elaborate tiki drinks elsewhere. I'm talking the type where fire is evolved or fancy garnishes. Overall: Clear Lake surprisingly has quite a few cool bars. They accommodated a baby and we saw a couple of other families present. I had always heard the Toasted Coconut was vegetarian friendly but there wasn't that many vegetarian options on the menu. The menu in the past had a vegetarian sandwich, but it looks like this has since been removed. I got the onion hash which was a large egg dish with black beans and potatoes. It was good and I had enough leftover to take home for another meal. I also tried the cauliflower wings. The overall vibe is casual and welcoming, making it a great place to grab a few drinks with friends or coworkers. The indoor and outdoor seating options are nice when Houston isn't blistering hot. Parking can be tough, though, since the lot is shared with a couple of other restaurants. That said, this recent visit was overshadowed by what was easily the most awkward and least customer-focused service experience I've had here. I was dining with a group of friends, and one friend ordered a meal to eat there along with another item to go. There was a little confusion when the order was placed, but we thought everything had been clarified. When the food arrived, both items were served on plates for the table. We politely explained that one of them was supposed to be a to-go order. It turned out the server had entered an additional order and believed we wanted both items for the table. What bothered me wasn't the mistake itself--those happen. It was the response. There was no apology, and instead we were told the misunderstanding was due to how we had communicated the order. We decided to keep all the food and move on, but the interaction felt unnecessarily defensive. I came a little late and was looking at the menu and asked whether they still had the fried eggplant dish that had been on the menu before. The response was simply, "No." No explanation, no follow-up, just an awkward silence. It set the tone for the rest of the interaction. So I decided to let her know I'll continue to look. This response was so uncomfortable that I later decided not to order anything at all. At one point, the server mentioned she had overheard us talking about having a "crazy weekend" and seemed to use that as an explanation for the earlier confusion. Whether there was miscommunication on both sides or not, the overall experience felt unnecessarily tense. I've typically had wonderful experiences here, which is why this visit stood out so much. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are still reasons I'd come back, but please avoid assigning Naya to customers if she's not willing to be a bit more cordial.
