Last week was another incredible MEAL at Pomidori! I usually get the veal parm, but the LINGUINE WITH MEATBALLS, CHEFS KISS! My new favorite! We've been coming to Pomidori for a few years, & enjoy the food ALWAYS! My husband had his usual Gnocchi he can't get away from. The Arancini Balls are surprisingly light & of course delicious! I walked away with 2 more meals & need more meatballs. The sauces are FRESH & light, the bread has a delicious crust & soft center. Salads are delicious & dressed perfectly! We were six this time & have had the same lackadaisical waiter who was never around. How he's been there this long is beyond me. I cringe when we sit in his section, knowing I'll have to ask for things when they have such better servers! The staff running the food is delightful & helpful too. The restaurant has photos of Chef making the pasta & is light & bright. Always pleasant to go too. We split our time between HHI & Midwest & always manage to go at least 2xs per visit. A group of seven of us had dinner here while visiting HHI. We had reservations and our table was ready when we got there. We started out with three appetizers for the table and a bottle of wine. We got the olives, burrata cheese, and the fried calamari. All of them were really good. I ordered the chicken marsala with angel hair, and my wife ordered the scallops with vodka sauce. Both of our dishes were excellent. Other dishes from the table were the short beef ragu and pasta, and the salmon with a salad. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Our server was great throughout the meal. Delicious from start to finish! Wednesday night dinner on HHI we decided Italian would be the way and made reservations . Pomodori offers a small and intimate dining environment with a bar in the back half of the restaurant. We started with the fried artichokes and split a ceasar salad. The artichoke portion was delicious! Lightly fried artichokes with a lemon aioli sauce - artichokes are not cheap and I was surprised at how large a portion is given. Ceasar salad was perfectly dressed, not drowning in dressing and all greens were fresh and crisp. Entrees included the salmon ala piccata with angel hair pasta. My wife enjoyed it immensely but warns it comes with plenty of garlic so beware. I had the flounder francese and substituted pappardelle for linguini.. Flounder was great, the thin egg battered fish was perfect and the pappardelle was a must have - perhaps best ive had Fully satisfied we opted to pass on dessert but I have faith it would have been delicious. Decided on this spot last minute, and given it was a very wet, rainy, cold Friday evening! They were pretty busy, so we had about a 30-minute wait. On their website, it does mention reservations only, so if you're visiting the island, I'd definitely recommend calling ahead for any restaurants you want to try, this town is busy no matter the season. I think people here just love eating out! As much as I want to deduct a star for the wait, I have to say the service and food were absolutely impeccable. The only minor hiccup was that the runners and servers weren't always perfectly in sync, but big shoutout to the hardworking cooks in the back, they really keep this town thriving. Hope they get the recognition they deserve! Now, onto the food, the bread was hot and fresh, the calamari and sauce was delish! I had the Pappardelle con Capesante e Vodka -house-made vodka sauce, hand-cut pasta, pancetta, sea scallops, and fresh basil. My partner ordered the Zuppa di Pesce con Arrabbiata - scallops, shrimp, mussels, garlic, spicy tomato sauce, and linguine. I had the Veal Picatta and it was incredible. My wife had the scallops and my two adult children had the Chicken Parm and Chicken Alfredo and we all agreed this was our best meal of the week. Great place! The restaurant is pretty small, but they make good use of the space and we got a table in the outside enclosed patio. Service and the host was great, food came very quickly. We ordered a Caesar salad and bruschetta to start and loved both. I ordered the Zappa di pesce con arrabiata and my husband got the meatballs and linguine. Cozy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They've done a nice job enclosing the outside seating so you don't feel like you are sitting in a parking lot. We sat in the bar area which is a cozy spot in the rear of the restaurant. Reservations are recommended. The bread was crusty perfection. I had the eggplant. You can choose your preferred preparation like Marsala , piccata, parmigiana, etc. I had the Parmesan preparation, which was excellent. The eggplant was served over pasta and a rich tomato sauce. Pomodori was excellent and our favorite meal so far on the island. We showed up early without reservations and they were able to squeeze us in. We enjoyed a Caesar salad with anchovies - so good! I LOVE white anchovies - very pleased! Hubby and I weren't very hungry so opted for appetizers - fried anchovies with a lemon aioli, arancini with smoked mozzarella and risotto served with a tomato sauce and basil, and two meatballs. All of it was fresh and absolutely delicious! Tables are close together, but we still felt like we had a nice, quiet and private meal. We would rerun tomorrow if there were open reservations. Well , yet another "out of sight" Meal at HH due to this fine Italian/Sicilian cuisine! I can't tell you how important of an indicator bread is at determining how the rest of the meal will be. The bread here is the best you've had for sure. Of course this style of Italian bread. Crusty yet tender and freshly baked. I ordered the Arancini balls, which were made with smoked mozzarella. Tender and full of flavor. I order the flounder Francese' and added some capers. Man oh man was it good. The fish is lightly battered and sautéed, not fried or oily. Then they set it atop the pasta ( comes with linguini, but I got the angel hair) with sun-dried tomatoes and some spinach. One of the best pasta dishes you'll ever have. My wife had the eggplant parm. Lightly battered and tender. Their sauce makes it as well. I wish this restaurant could be located at a better place near the water for better ambiance, but it's hard enough to make a restaurant work without a high mortgage or rent. My wife and I found this restaurant on yelp, and could not have been happier that we did. We knew we would be sitting at a bar like table as we didn't have reservations, but the lure of hand made pasta had us hooked. The hostess was extremely kind, welcoming, and warm. We sat at the bar top right next to the hostess stand, but it wasn't a bother and because of the small venue it didn't feel like people were constantly behind us. The pasta lived up to the hype. Phenomenal. 10 out of 10. My wife had the pasta alla vodka and I had the salmon with lemon white wine sauce. Every bite was delicious and we will most definitely return when we come back to Hilton Head next. Don't think about it, make the reservation now. This is an exceptional Italian restaurant with wonderful dishes and attentive service in a charming, warm setting. Exceptional is rarified for my Italian reviews. I've been lucky to live in the NY area and Boston, and recently Milan. Ok, that sounds obnoxious but helps me make a point. This Hilton Head restaurant is the real deal! We started simply with a nice super Tuscan priced well, incredible warm bread, a nice blend of olives that were anything but normal and a bottle of Peligrino. Service was attentive and timely. For dinner my wife had shrimp Marsala with a sauce that was rich and not sweet with their amazing house made pasta. I had the piccata with the fish of the day that was flounder. It had a very generous piece of fish with a balanced piccata sauce with the right mix lemon, capers, and garlic. It was simply excellent. For dessert, we had ricotta pie with dark cherries. Great way to cap an excellent experience overall. My only critical feedback - there was too much Parmesan on both our dishes before it hit the table. It made my piccata a little too heavy. They are beer and wine only but have a good selection. The main dish was very good, but the gnocchi was pretty soft and it could have used a few more minutes to be a little more firm so it wasn't all mushy but still very good. Upon entering what is considered to be a strip plaza we found this place easy to find and accessible, when we entered the lovely hostess was a fantastic start to a more of a modern ambiance. The service is top notch, we appreciate the fact that they worked with us. Even though we booked the reservation through Open Table, we thought that we could see if we can get a table a shade earlier. They offered us wine at the bar while we were waiting but we got confused to thinking we were eating at the bar. Then we sat at a table for two. Sam the server made a great impression in making sure we were handled properly transitioning to the table from the bar. Offered us bread with butter and water. We ordered calamari fruit at first which was crispy and hot but tasteless and bland. Simply put, this is my favorite restaurant on the island. It starts with Amanda and her staff who are personable, knowledgeable and aim to please. Then, the food is outstanding: great selections, creative and visually appealing. Everything is fresh and tastes fabulous. The portions are generous enough to take the leftovers with you, but I often find myself liking my dish so much that, before I know it, my plate is clean. The only issue with Pomodori is that it is popular and usually a well-in-advance reservation is needed. The other night though, I lucked out. Beautiful little restaurant tucked into a strip mall. Very high end feel with a covered outdoor patio off the parking lot if you wish to dine al fresco. After a week on the island we opted for a nice Italian meal and based on other great reviews we made a reservation here. This is a smaller sized restaurant so you will be seated very close to other patrons, but the vibe of this restaurant is very intimate but in a casual way, so you won't feel like people are crashing your party or vice versa. Our server for the evening was great - so friendly and welcoming! He gave thorough, detailed recommendations of popular menu items and answered all of our questions. He made it hard to choose a dish since his descriptions of the meals were so appealing! We opted for the house made gnocchi and a mixed seafood pasta. The service was quick and attentive and our meals were nicely sized and beautifully presented. Everything lived up to the hype and we enjoyed every bite. Word of warning - this a wine-only bar, so there are no other options for alcoholic beverages. We had both a white and red wine and both were well priced and paired well with our meals. We visit HHI every year, and hadn't been to Pomodori in quite some time (there are just too many restaurants to try!), but had a great dining experience. Pomodori seems to be an HHI staple now, and I'm glad to see they're doing so well after so many years! Our group had the Scallop Pappardelle, Eggplant Parmesan, Veal Francese, and one of the daily specials (cannot remember!). The bread before dinner was delicious. All of the portions were generous, but we came hungry so cleared our plates. Having had the Eggplant Parm myself, I can say it was incredibly flavorful and fresh. Reservations are a must for the weekend. We made one semi-last minute and had to be outside in the enclosed patio area. The outdoor area would be my only complaint given the fall temperatures - it was a little chilly (I ate with my coat on) despite the heaters they had going.
