We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Michael Anthony's Market Cafe, and a huge part of that was our incredible server, Michael. From the moment we sat down in the bar area, Michael made us feel genuinely welcome. He was warm, personable, attentive, and had the perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness. He anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask, checked on us at just the right times, and made the entire evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. It's rare to come across someone who truly loves what they do, and it showed in every interaction. The food was outstanding! We enjoyed delicious martinis, amazing meatballs, freshly baked bread that was impossible to stop eating, and fantastic pizza. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. What really made the evening memorable, though, was Michael. He elevated a great meal into an exceptional dining experience. First timer here--I loved the vibe and Gio, our server, was attentive and super friendly. Place is tiny and noisy but overall fun. Loved the Caesar salad with fried anchovies--yes, please! I loved my entree (the spaghetti with crab). My BIL's veal Milanese was very good, and the arancini I tasted from my sister's scallop special were fabulous. Would have liked the dish to come with larger bay scallops, though. My friend would have liked more of a thin crispy cutlet in her chicken parm but that's what she's used to. My panna cotta was lovely! No complimentary bread service here, and FYI, a simple side of pasta is $15. I've been told to make a rez and sit at the bar. read more

Fantastic!! Gio is a wonderful representative of your establishment. Amazing service, great food and drinks. Three of us shared the garlic knots which were little fluffy bites of goodness. My cousin had the tomato soup and meatballs, my husband had the special pasta- Orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe, and I had the Italian wedge with blackened chicken. We had the Montepulciano from the HH menu as well as an old-fashioned which my husband declared was perfect. We were way too full for dessert. Some folks recommended this restaurant to us out of towners & I'm so glad we tried it. This was the more casual Market one (there is a fancier side too). But it was a really nice casual. The restaurant is small (make a reservation), reminds me of a grotto, and it also serves as a market. The tables had red & white checked tablecloths & the atmosphere was cozy & inviting. The host/servers were over the top nice. Apologizing for our 5 minute wait for a table, letting me try samples of 3 wines to select the one I wanted, and just being very attentive. Food was so good. We had the small Caesar salad & split a baguette. My husband had the spaghetti & crab & I had another pasta dish (name started with E- I can't pronounce it). All homemade pasta. Delicious. We came here for lunch and there was no wait at 11:45am on a Monday. This review is for the market cafe (not full restaurant or cooking classes) and the menu has lighter lunch fare. My spouse got the Italian sandwich and thought it was pretty tasty, particularly the bread, and the pasta salad was also good. I ordered their Margherita pizza but because we had our toddler with us, they recommended switching the sun dried tomato base to pomodoro sauce. I think subsequently this meant no arugula? Or I at least didn't find any on my pizza (just basil) and we put the balsamic glaze on the side. We got the cauliflower crust and it was excellent (but of note an extra $2ish dollars) Overall they were quite accommodating to our toddler and had a high chair (no changing table in bathroom) and that paper table cloth is prime for crayons if you bring your own :) read more

I had lunch here with some colleagues. We have been here many times. We do Sips & Bites often. This is when the bartender pairs Bites size dishes with different wines. Well this is not why I am rating my experience at The Market Cafe At Michael Anthony's. Well I live about an hour west of Philly. The home of the original CheeseSteak. Wit (wiz) Wit (onions) The best of the best. (HOLD the Press) So back to reality. I am at The Market Cafe and I see a cheesesteak special on the menu. I see it has real ribeyes steak shaved. Wit Cheese The roll is such a big part of the sub. Amoroso Sub rolls are the best. Anyway I get my cheesesteak and I say "What The heck is this?" I am 630.7 miles from Philly and what is this almost perfect Cheesesteak. SHHH I said. I am embarrassed, I am not suppose to love this cheesesteak so much. So SHHHHHHH! don't tell anyone. Just our secret. But I still have more inside info on the remodel???? what the remodel, yes They are taking over the next room and even enclosing the Michael Anthony and The Market Cafe. This restaurant can be very difficult to find. It is in a business park like strip mall area and when you open the door and walk in, you feel like you're walking from Hilton Head into Tuscany Italy. It is absolutely amazing. The ambience is worth a visit alone. We ended up sitting at the bar and the bartender was fantastic. He gave great suggestions for both food and drink. My husband had the.Tre pizza and said it was the best pizza he has ever had. We started with meatballs, which were just average. I wouldn't order them again. Had a very good dinner dinner here. Personally, I enjoy the ambience of the shop in the background. We shared the sausage pizza and the wedge salad; added an order of meatballs in case it wasn't enough. But for us, it was more than enough. Pizza was delicious; crust nice and crisp. I love the wedge salad too, it's a good combination of flavors with just the right amount of dressing. We were celebrating a birthday in a low-key way (didn't want any singing, etc.), and our server, Gio, really got it. The cafe doesn't hold the same magic as the main restaurant but the food is as wonderful. I seek each Christmas Eve a substitute for my years in Rhode Island at family and friends Italian celebrations. Nothing on Hilton Head can live up to that experience but the flavors at Michael Anthony's are amazing substitute. I had bow tie pasta and my fiancée had a New York strip special. Both were excellent. I have eaten here many times over the years and have loved everything. My favorite will always be the bolognese with fresh pasta. Service was great, the Ambiance was great. Noise level was low. Food however was not so good. Ceasar salad was great. We had the chicken Parm and comes with spaghetti. My husband and I could not eat the spaghetti, and the chicken was not pounded or sliced sideways to make it more mouth melting. I could not eat that after a piece of grizzle or sometihng went into my mouth. I was brought up by an Italian grandmother and she made gnocchi all the time. It is made with potatoes and has a certain consistency. The spaghetti however (although made fresh) I could swear was made with potatoes and not durum wheat flour. I am an Italian/American (dual citizenship) so I know what I am talking about. I have never had spaghetti like that in my life. Just Awful. We would not be going back there. What happened to that restaurant? It used to be one of the best here on Hilton Head Island. What a shame. read more

Love Michael Anthony's but prefer the more laid back Market Cafe. Highly recommend a pizza as an appetizer, although the arancini is perfect as well. Salads are always fresh and provide a wide range of choices. The entree menu is limited, but you can't go wrong with any of the fresh pasta dishes. Ask for the wine list and you will find a perfect bottle to go with your dish. Finish off the meal with a limoncello and a gelato. Tables are close together, so be prepared to meet new friends!
