Beer, cider, wine, seasonal type mixed drinks. I had the Ethel's apple pie cider. It's a sweet cider tasted like apple pie with cinnamon. Super good. $7 for 16oz. My friend doesn't like beer or cider and she wasn't sure on the wines so she got a rum and coke. Which was your average rum and coke. We sat at the bar. Bartenders were super nice and helpful. The seats are not comfy. They are those metal stools and chairs. No cushion at all. So if you sit a bit your butt will hurt. Just so you know. Nice stop for a quick drink to pass some time. They have TV's going and it's kinda open with the beer tanks along the side. Definite repeat. Maybe try some food next time.

Our server came over almost immediately; helped me navigate the menu for vegetarian options; and checked with the chef regarding my food allergies. My (omnivore) husband had a hot dog. I had a grilled cheese and a crisp, fruity glass of white wine. All very good. We were offered free samples of wine which was a nice touch but one sip of the sample and I ordered a glass. Could not ask for better service and the vibe is warm and welcoming. We'll definitely go back. I already have my eye on the Carolina Coffee porter.

They have an excellent beer selection, great food, and an overall fun, welcoming atmosphere that keeps me coming back year after year. My only criticism is that staff are very proactive about clearing tables. On more than one occasion, someone has taken items without asking first, including a drink I was still planning to finish. I appreciate the effort to keep the dining area clean, but a quick "Are you finished with this?" would go a long way and make the experience even better.

Because of this, we made an effort visit and were glad we did. The pizza is some of the best I've had in years, so that's a must if you're visit. I just love the story; this brewery is downtown in a huge building that looks almost too big for what's inside. It's an old newspaper building, hence Masthead. But even more fun, the original name of the city was "Cleaveland" but it couldn't fit on the newspaper masthead, so they simply shortened it to "Cleveland" and here we are today. The brewery name is in reference to these stories. They have a ton of seating, and a well planned ordering area as you enter. They have high tops, bar seating, and huge long tables for large groups or to share. They also have a great outdoor seating and standing area along the city streets lined with trees. The bartenders were all super friendly and efficient with all the customers constantly coming up. I got a great flight of styles, I wish I had the time to have had more; next time. Our table ordered a bunch of different pizzas to try; I loved the crispy yet soft crusts, cheeses, oils, and fresh ingredients on tap. Prices on everything is reasonable for the quality. This was definitely a favorite stop of the day, and a must-visit if you're on a beer tour of the area.

Well, years ago a good friend of mine, who was born and raised in Germany, took me to a great German grocery store off west 25th and Lorain on the west side of Cleveland. I never forgot that store. But since he's been gone I really had no reason to revisit it. The other day someone told me the owner of that store opened a restaurant attached to it. And that was when I first heard about "Hansa Brewery". I couldn't wait to go there and tonight was the night! We arrived this evening and were greeted by a very pleasant gentleman who quickly seated us in the all glassed in dining room. The view out one side is onto Lorain Ave. Out another side looks out upon St. Ignatius High School. Out another side looks into the brewery itself, filled with giant stainless steel equipment. The menu is brought to your table written on a large chalkboard... one for the whole table. It has a marvelous selection of German specialties... everything you could possibly want. I ordered the lamb chops (very nicely priced). They came out, much to my surprise, all as double cut chops. So I didn't just get 4 lamb chops. I actually got 8. And wow! they were beautiful, meaty, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly as I requested. The red cabbage and green beans were excellent as well. It was a wonderful meal. My wife ordered the Weiner schnitzel with spätzle... absolutely fabulous... perfect. Our guests ordered Weiner schnitzel and Chicken paprikash and they were thrilled with the quality of their meals also. We all followed up with coffee and homemade strudel that was to die for. What a great evening. I can't wait to finish my doggy bag for lunch tomorrow. If you like German food. Or you think you might like German food. Do yourself a favor. Go to Hansa Brewery. You'll be glad you did... I guarantee it.

They have a small tap list of their own beer: all beers are traditional German styles. I enjoyed my glass of Rauchbier (smoked). There is a good German bottle supply as well. Sides were delicious: red cabbage and spatzel. Really good and reasonably priced.

*Reopened as of July 2026*…read more Didn't hear much about the reopening of this location but decided to stop in for dinner. Menu is smaller now, food is good and prices are about what you'd expect from a brewery. Main issue was the service. This is something I don't complain about too much, but this was pretty bad. Place wasn't busy at all, with just one other table and a couple people at the bar. Took us about 20 minutes to get an appetizer and another 30-40 minutes to get our food. Waitress didn't give us napkins or silverware, we had to ask. Every interaction we had with the staff was super awkward (we had to flag down the waitress and ask to order our main course) I personally can't see this location lasting. Dinner time on a weeknight and it was DEAD. Service and prices might be a reason for that.

Their pulled pork & sweet potato fries (oh I hope they still have them!) are my go-to items. Avoid seasonal items & the chicken parm sandwich (chicken was more like a hockey puck & extremely hard to bite into). The service is always amazing & it is so fast to get a table and food, no matter how packed it is. I highly recommend. They are always changing their menu, so be aware some things come and go, but always good regardless. Would also recommend buffalo chicken dip; not too spicy and not made with nasty blue cheese. Edited to add: I went Feb 2024 & the sweet potato fries are gone. They changed their buffalo chicken dip to have hard as a rock pita chips (could not even bite into them) instead of tortilla chips. I do not like any of the side options. I hate fair fries so threw mine out. Really miss the sweet potato fries, green bean fries, & good appetizer options. I will no longer visit here until they fix the menu.
