There's nothing like deciding at 1:30 AM you're hungry and want some good hot food! And then being able to drive out to the local diner and being able to order it, any time, any day. The Pompton Queen is a great 24/7 local diner with way above average food, great waitresses, and decent decor (not one stitch of chrome!). I have friends who say they've been going there for thirty years or more. My current favorite is their Chicken Marsala (substitute rice for the pasta) - but you gotta get there by 10 PM or the kitchen shuts down their sauce maker (don't ask me why they do that....). Very bad service. I went there yesterday September 2, @ 3:45 pm; the place wasn't busy at all. We ordered nachos for 2; a turkey triple decker. The food took 40 minutes to come out. Our waitress forgot to bring extra plates for the nachos, no sour cream, (I had to ask for it). Turnkey club had no mayonnaise!!!!!! HELLOOOOO! What the hell? Nachos for two?, no, that was just nachos on a plate enough for one person. Our drinks took about 10 minutes to come out; got refilled once. Then I ordered a cheeseburger deluxe to go for my son. ( That was another 20 minutes wait). We don't mine paying for good food and good service, but after years of going to the Pompton Queen diner I very disappointed. read more

Stopped here with my son for lunch. My son basically eats pancakes at every diner we go to, which is not hard to screw up. I ordered the Mexicali salad and had the buffalo chicken bites added. The salad was just ehh. At one point I bit into a piece of red onion so big that my eyes started watering and the tomatoes tasted really off. Went for breakfast with 3 friends. First time and last time. Got a waffle another got pancakes. No syrup. While waiting awhile for the server to come back, asked another server and never brought. Finally our server returned, told her we needed syrup. About the time she returned, the food was cold. We were talking for a while having some more coffee, but now the server and host continually came and asked if we needed anything. Had the feeling they wanted us to leave. I have been eating at the Queen for at least 20+ years. The food is consistently good. My kids and husband usually always get burgers which are delicious. I usually go for a salad or a chicken sandwich, I love that you can get any sandwich on pretty any type of bread, roll, wrap etc. my family loves the nacho grande and no trip to the Queen would be complete without disco fries. I have been to the the Pompton Queen at least a dozen times. Easily, one of NJ's best diners. Clean and tastefully decorated. The wait staff is attentive and courteous, even when busy... Which is pretty much always. Breakfasts are great. Their pancakes are better than most pancake houses. Lunch and dinners are fresh and creatively prepared. The Pompton Queen diner & restaurant was a good place to stop on my way home from visiting some friends in the area. However, I would probably not make this a regular restaurant. I ordered the challah french toast and was very underwhelmed. The french toast was not very good, it was so bland that even my hung over friend complained! We also had a chocolate milk shake, which wasn't that great. The diner was quite busy and it seemed as though it took them longer to seat us than it took for us to eat. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff was quite attentive. It was just what we needed before hitting the highway, but I would rather not eat there again. read more

It had been years since Pompton Queen was a thought in my head, and even further was the possibility of just dropping by - it's approximately a 200 mile round trip from my house. But once upon a time, *cough*40 years ago*cough* I lived nearby and while I don't remember specific childhood trips there, I do recall the place always seemingly having a full parking lot, regardless of the day of the week or the time of day. Tonight brought us in as a party of 3, just after 8pm. The crowd was sizeable. The menu is huge. The prices are reasonable. My husband got a burger platter and practically licked the plate clean. My son got a chicken Caesar wrap with an "upgraded" (+$1.00) side of sweet potato fries. I got a meat loaf sandwich and used the option on the menu that lets you turn classic sandwich listings into platters and opted for regular fries. The portions were enormous and a meat loaf sandwich has absolutely no business whatsoever tasting THAT GOOD. I expected okay, whatever, comfort food. This thing practically required no chewing - it literally melts in your mouth. IDK if they bake their own rolls or have bread deliveries, but this meat loaf plus that roll, dipping before biting into a cup of brown gravy that comes with the plate..I'm almost embarrassed at how satisfying and great it was. I've eaten filet Mignon in pricey steakhouses that haven't come close to just how good this was. The awkward moment when the server asks how everything is, and you can only helplessly murmur "oh my God," and she chuckles. Apparently she sees this reaction often enough. Server was friendly and helpful. Half is wrapped and waiting to become breakfast. We three walked out of there almost uncomfortably stuffed, on the long road back home. 3 adults ate and ate well for just under $40, pretip. Worth every penny. read more

Best diner in NJ by far. Huge portions for the price. I typically only go around dinner and it can get pretty packed, but for good reason and is worth the wait each time. I usually go a couple times a week and have never had a bad experience. From quesadillas that are better than any Mexican restaurant, their super tender and flavorful grilled chicken, to their savory desserts, I've enjoyed each item on the menu. Great as ever - Breakfast, lunch or dinner. When I am not sure what I want the Roast Beef triple decker is the way to go. The Mile High and the City Grill are also great choices. This is definitely one of the better diners I've been to. It's always packed no matter what time of day you go, but the wait goes quickly as there are many tables inside. The service is on point and the owners/managers always appear to be walking around and checking on tables which is a huge plus. I've had a variety of food items and all have been delicious. Steak Dinner With a Side of Racism This diner used to be one of my favorites. I've gone here for years, and I've invited friends and family to dine here with me all the while. But after tonight I'm never coming back, and I don't think you should either. I came into the diner around 7:00 PM with two other people. Despite the hustle and bustle we were seated and served quickly, and before long we were finished and ready to head out. After we paid, the people who came with me headed to the bathroom, so I waited around the register for them. The cashier set aside the tip money for the server, and when she came to collect her tip, she decided to share how she felt about Hispanic people. "I'm not surprised, I told you they would tip bad before I served them." The blond woman manning the register replied, "Yeah, those kinds of people always do that, and they come here and expect us to give them great service." I was disgusted that a place like this would hire a pair of racist scumbags to serve their customers. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and I'll make sure that all the people I've recommended the Pompton Queen to take their money elsewhere. We stopped here with to meet up with family in the area, and they recommended Pompton Queen Diner. I want to give the server a little slack since the place was packed, but I am skeptical. Two of the orders were not completely right, and we were missing items; The server seemed annoyed when we reminded her of the missing items, and told her about the errors on our orders. Everyone decided to just eat what they had instead of sending back the food. Eventually she brought out missing items, but not until we were mostly finished with our meals. It may have been a bad day for her, and I don't like to judge a diner on one server, but this was pretty unfortunate. I did enjoy my meal at PQ Diner. I got a cheese omelet and it was really tasty. I have no complaint about the food! It seems like a nice diner, and would go back if I was in the area! This place was pretty good, I had a large portion of breakfast and I ordered just eggs and bacon and upgraded my pancakes to cannoli pancakes! It was very good however it was such a large portion that I could not eat all of my food in one sitting!
