My wife and I have been here between 15 and 20 times over the past two years. Mostly for breakfast, but also for lunch. Totally awesome. The portion sizes are HUGE, and I've never been disappointed. They have absolutely fantastic onion rings (my personal favorite). Great service as well. The beer and mixed drink selection is fine, but way overpriced in my opinion. We eat here at least once a month. The service is great from the time you enter until you leave. The food choices, particularly from the daily "specials" menu, are great, and they always have a unique and positive twist to make the dish even more appealing; e.g., a couple of weeks ago, the chicken francaise also had 3 lightly battered shrimp added, and the mashed potatoes were outrageous with spinach added to the blend. i guess that's why it's up there as one of the best. Came here many times but at this point totally had enough with this place. The number of times food comes out wrong, the amount of attitude problems between the managers and the wait staff it was to the point were we decided to take our business elsewhere and spend out money in a place where we can actual get basic table service. Been there 3 days in a row and each and every time there was some sort of problem. The more times you entered the place the bigger the problems got. The first day wasnt a problem but the way the kitchen presented the food, they just threw it on a plate, the side order dishes you could tell were dirty. The pasta was not strained in a clean container because you saw residue of whatever they used it all over the pasta. On day two, proof the kitchen is the most clueless people. In short, they dont even know their own menu because the only thing they can cook is pancakes, disco fries, and tailor egg and ham. Ordered a cheese state with mozzerella cheese. Got a sandwich which was spicy as hell and couldnt identify the meat. After looking at the menu, these morons sent it out with american cheese, the second time they made a sandwich made out of pork and hallowbeanio peppers. Totally clueless idiots. Today just walked out of this place. First sat down a table after specificially asking for a waitress by name. So sat down, and the waitress was in the middle of taken the order when all of the sudden this short fat woman, calls her away from the table. The next part they make us the customer get up and walk to the other side of the restraunt because another waiter by the name of louis was bitching and complaining that he didnt want his table to be taken by someone that he was not going to make money off of. The next part they seat us the childens section where you have a bunch of kids yelling out loud blasting their cell phones left and right. So the frist waitress comes take the order so we are minding our own business and then all of the sudden another waitress comes over and asks what we want to eat. Totally clueless that we had to say baiscally see the drink on the table, how do you think we got it.....So the last straw was when we ordered a simple hamburger and they couldnt get a simple rare hamburger right in 3 times, after the 4th time we just got up and left. The first time burnt, second time the same way as the first, the 3rd time medium well done, and then the fourth time the manager just came out slammed the plate on the table and walked away. The incompitence and the obvious stupidity of this place and they all know the customer was right and their position was being too lazy that regardless of how the item was prepared that the customer has to accept what ever garbage comes out of the place. The gawl of making us play $10 for their screw up, and their last words were "sorry but I have my own problems to deal with". We will be calling 2 food critics from the local newspaper to ensure their place is properly reviewed. This place went downhill so fast. read more

Visited today after they were closed for a "renovation" for about 2 weeks. This was our favorite diner until our experience today. Maybe there are some reopening kinks they need to work out - there were 3 us dining - had our waitress before and she was spot on - not this time! Didn't receive bread basket or water, the salad was served in much smaller bowls and the lettuce was frozen, our dinners were brought to the table and the food was cool to room temperature which she brought back to be microwaved - mine came back without my garlic bread! When she passed by later I asked for a drink refill - only my drink was refilled even though the other two glasses were empty as well. Since this really was our favorite diner - we will give them another chance in a few weeks and hopefully everything will be great again and warrant 5 stars. read more

Have been a long time customer of the Pompton Queen - but last week something occurred that will make me think twice about ever going back. Food and service are typically pretty good, but the woman at the cash register needs to understand that the customer is what keeps her in business. She is somehow related to management - ten pounds of make-up on her face does not hide her ugly, superiority attitude. We got our check and noticed a mistake for one of the items, the Gluten-free roll that we had to pay an additional $1.00 for (yes, that is ONE roll), was down as $1.25. We told this to "Mrs. Personality" at the register, politely - she did not look at us, and with her typical "snot" attitude, stated:"yes, we changed the price". I explained that on the menu, it specifically states $1.00. and she repeated, "we changed the price, just not the menu" and I explained that she could not do that legally. She ignored us, handed us our change and attended to the next customer. Her attitude has never been respectful or even kind - and we are not sure why she feels the needs to present a superior attitude when in actuality, she is a basic cashier - her 60-year-old self, caked in ten pounds of makeup has a job someone in high school is qualified to do. The 25 cents will not make or break us, it was the principal of her deciding to not even address the fact that they are stealing money from people. ATTENTION: Go over your check carefully if you choose to eat here - this dishonesty should not be ignored AND it is illegal - and you will have to deal with this very nasty old woman at the register. Perhaps Daddy or her husband is the owner, regardless, they are stealing from their customers, the VERY people that keep them in business. read more

I got a Chef salad. It was $11 bucks! Really?Tthe roast beef was raw and stringy. The lettuce was Ok, but nothing to brag about. The cheese was flavorless. The tomatoes were not ripe, and the olives wrinkled. I will never dish out $11 dollars for a salad like this again! read more

Recently met a friend there for Christmas lunch, the place was packed! We had to wait for a table on a weekday. That should tell you something. Anyhow this place is a little nicer than your average diner, and they have liquor. The waitress was accommodating although our food took a while I could understand since they were so busy. I thought the prices were ridiculous until I got my sandwich- it was a huge portion of delicious fresh turkey piled high and worth every penny. And the waitress got our order 100% correct. Disappointed when we stopped by for a late weekday lunch and the place was packed as usual. Didn't mind the wait for a table or added food preparation time, however, I ordered a BLT Deluxe ($8.95) and the bacon was thick, all dried out, hard like a rock and cold like it was possibly cooked very early that morning and laid around all day until someone ordered a bacon burger or BLT.I will not order any dish containing bacon there again. My boyfriend and I went here last night, the service was good, we were actually having a great dinner until my boyfriend went for the toast. There was green stuff on the toast that looked like mold. So the waitress comes over and she was apologetic. She came back and said that the toast was near avocado and that was the green stuff.. What is the toast doing near the avocado? She then goes on to say that sometimes there lettuce in the butter and its not eye pleasing? My boyfriend and I looked at each other and we were so disgusted we had to get the check.. After fasting for blood work I stopped in for a quick burger . I sat at the counter , placed my order(mushroom ,bacon , cheese burger & fries) they add fried onions to it that I didn't order. it took awhile to get it, after looking at my phone , it took 18 mins to be exact . 18 minute to get a burger in a NJ Diner? and it was mostly empty at 4pm. When I got it , it was a mess , the mushrooms and onions where half on the burger and mostly on the plate . The bacon was cold dry and hard to chew like jerky , had to be left over from breakfast . The cheese was almost melted all the way . The burger had an overwhelming burdening flavor of charcoal and nothing else, no meat taste at all. I got a 25/75 mix of fries meaning 75% were cold ,dried out , hard ,crunchy fries , with 25% hot fresh cooked fries on top. Starving after fasting and running late , I ate it anyway . I get the bill and its a few cents short of $18 bucks , then a $3 tip( its not the servers fault ). If it was a real good fresh every burger , I have no problem paying $21.00 for a good burger and a pepsi. Shame on the place , they have big problems it the kitchen and bigger problems in management to allow food to be served like this and charge that much. read more

After constantly seeing this place packed and hearing it won best diner in New Jersey for the past 8 years, my wife and I had to try it. My wife had the grilled Halibut with Lemon Sauce - which she loved. Very fresh and probably half of what we pay in a seafood restaurant. I had the roast Prime Rib, medium rare. It must have been 20 oz. - awesome. A cold beer and a glass of wine topped it off. Very impressive for a restaurant, let alone diner. Would definitely recommend. Next time I'll have to try some of those delicious looking cakes. read more

The first time I ever went there, there was a line out the door of people waiting to get in...on a Thursday night! I thought they were giving something away for free! I've passed by this place a number of times but never ate there until recently. I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a triple decker ham & cheese sandwich and my fiancé ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. The portions were more than generous and tasted great; HUGE sandwiches and a heaping serving of French fries (they also put bacon in my sandwich which was a VERY nice touch). All this for $20 & change (and that INCLUDES drinks & a tip for the server). I'll definitely be returning to this place! read more
