I normally don't give reviews but after the recent visit for a repair that caused another issue I'm not sure about this place. I was contacted by text the next day after getting my vehicle back to see how it was going and when i mentioned a couple of problems i was experiencing i didnt receive any further communication. I believe a family member contacted to see about getting the vehicle looked at but it was gonna be another charge for that and when asked about if there was any kind of warranty for guarantee the answers where either short or deflected..I guess they dont want to here any negativity in the "services" they provide, picked car up on 12/18/24 and as of today writing this the vehicle is not drive-able. read more

2011 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid I came in for an OIL CHANGE. They quoted me $150-80 on the phone & Porsche had no appointments available so I ran to ponders thinking everything would be fine. I dropped my car off being told it would be same day service. When it actually turned into a $1975.82 nightmare. 1) I called to pick up my vehicle (same day as quoted) and it wasn't ready. A day later still not ready. RED FLAG 2) When I finally was able to pick up my vehicle and the total was $70 RED FLAG. 3) Not even 24 hours later the engine starts to overheat & my oil change light has returned. RED FLAG The company asked that I return the car so they can have the owner address the issue. I return it. Days go by and I still don't have it back. Or an answer as to what's going on. 4) I get a call explaining they don't have a qualified (trained) technician to work on Porsche Cars. So they cannot do anything about the damage they caused. I was also told Porsche engine build is too tight so they can't look for the problem. R E D. F L A G. This situation as you could imagine caused an immense amount of emotional distress. I have used this company for my previous vehicles a handful of times with no issues (Ford -Mercedes). Knowing someone that advertises caring for cars like this messed up my vehicle and I'm stuck cleaning up the mess does not sit well with me. Especially after putting my trust in their hands for years. After 3 months of rental vehicles when I could afford it on top of the car payment and insurance, countless Uber rides so I could get to work, and waiting for parts to come from overseas. I finally have my car back & it's fully functional thanks to a local collision shop that was willing to figure out the damage done. I highly recommend you avoid this place. I was lied to. I'm not sure how they had someone trained to do my oil change but then all the sudden when my oil light comes on hours after leaving the shop along with my car overheating... "we don't have a trained technician that works here anymore" "he left us a few months ago. " to me it doesn't add up. If you don't have a trained technician familiar with working on a brand why agree to touch/service the car. Essentially I was stuck with well over 2k in costs. I also travel across the states for work. So I had to turn down countless meetings and appointments & stay local. 10/10 wasn't expecting anything but professionalism & clear communication from this company but they let me down. My cars warranty is through them or the dealership went to get an oil change took literally all day open to close took my car with 3/4 of a tank of gas got it back with a 1/4 of a tank of gas and the trip meter had gone up almost 100 miles I get about 25 miles to the Gallon in my Subaru quartersand them telling me I need a timing belt that is covered by my warranty told me it wouldn't be covered by the warranty I then contacted my dealership had them check the timing belt that was covered and had already been replaced less than a year before there was even a sticker with date and milage when changed and entry on carfax showing when the timing belt was replaced I now only take my car to the dealership I will never go here again read more

Beginning with their very professional website which allows you to make a reservation and ending with picking up my car and checking out in under 5 minutes., I've never had a better service experience. Took my mercury mountaineer in because check engine light come on they quoted me a price and said they were short staffed so I would have to drop it off.So I did and they kept my vehicle for a whole week and telling me sorry but they are short staffed.When I finally got to pick up my vehicle the price they gave me had tripled.You would think they would keep there word or give a discount for keeping your vehicle that long but the worst part is after I got it back not even a week later the motor blew up.What a joke this place is.They never have enough or trained staff. read more

Ponder auto Repair is a good upfront repair shop. They are straight forward they will not fix items that don't need repaired. I took my daughters car in for all the brakes and they called me with only needing the front ones the rear were okay. I trust them with all my cars. read more

Worst place in town!!!! They are untrustworthy and lie. They put cheap parts on your car. If they can get away with not replacing something that is broken, they will and then charge you for if they did replace it. They are crooks. They have screwed me over twice now, that I know of. AVOID AT ALL COST!! I went to Ponder to get a diagnostic ran on my 98 Toyota Corolla. In addition to taking almost a SOLID WEEK to get my car into the shop, (it hadn't been moved out of the parking place where I had left it) I had to basically call and remind them it was there. In addition to that, they couldn't even tell me WHICH of the motor mounts needed replaced until they checked it again. My suspicion is that since I said it sounded like the motor mounts, they simply ran with it and threw together an estimate. Then, once in the shop, I had to fight to see how much they were charging for the individual parts and for the labor. Finally, we discussed using parts I would supply myself (as they were charging an arm and a leg). I was told that it had to be ok'ed, but that there wouldn't be an additional charge. I called to set an appointment to have the mounts replaced, with me including the parts. While on that call, they repeated that the price was the same as on my estimate (about $400 labor after taxes). I then get a call back less than 10 minutes later saying that he was mistaken, and that they DO charge for customer supplied parts and the cost would be $590 before taxes. A $200+ differences after taxes were applied. tldr: Avoid them like the plague unless you want your time and your money wasted. I'm now out about $50 for a diagnostic that Lord knows if they even got it right. read more

Horrible place. Car squeaked for 6 months and they insisted noise was not the breaks. 2 visits, kept my car for days, charged me hundreds and still insisted it was not the breaks. Took my car elsewhere - break pads. Another occasion had my car for a day and forgot to change the oil at all - I only caught it when I saw the old window sticker was still there. 3rd occasion: called me and said my engine was blown. Then called 4 hours later and said my car was ready - turns out they called me in error about the blown engine. Rude young girl working the counter on top of all the incompetence. Let me just start by saying, "Good Mechanics are hard to find these days". They charge a fair labor rate $90 to $110. Tools / Training is not cheap and not to mention keeping small business in this day and age. I recommend Ponders for all big and small jobs if you want it done right! I do all my maintenance and minor repairs myself, but when it comes to the big jobs if use Ponders. Cheaper than the dealership. Goes off Mitchell Labor Book, which I would too. I am a student here at ETSU and I went to Ponder Auto because my brakes on my car were very squeaky and I figured it was about time to get the brakes replaced. I brought my car in and an hour later they called and informed me that my brake pads still had 50 percent and more and did not need replaced. Where I am from they wouldn't of been this honest at all! I also thought they closed at 5:30, but on Fridays they close at 5:15. As I was going to pick up my car they kindly waited for me after hours. They are very honest and nice people I would definitely recommend!! read more

I have used Ponder's 4 or 5 times on Ford, Toyota and Volvo cars. Every time Ponder's has done great work. They are upfront about costs and they even make an effort to locate parts that cost less than at the local dealer. I would highly recommend Ponder's for your auto work. One thing to note is that they often are backed up and may take a day or two longer than you expect. read more

I have had several encounters with Brian Ponder and the guys out at Ponder Auto Repair. I grew up working with my dad who owned an auto body repair shop, so I have been around cars my entire life. There was a time when you could work on your car, or find a good "shade tree mechanic" with all the computers, and electronics on cars these days, those days have virtually passed, and you always have to be concerned about shady shops looking to make a quick dollar on unknowledgeable car owners. Well the guys at Ponder, are anything but. Brian and his guys will diagnose the problems, and tell you prioritize any and all the issues that are there so that you can schedule you repairs out over time, getting your car back to excellent condition, on a budget, and a schedule that you can afford. In addition to that, they have an amazing plan, that if you qualify, you can purchase your parts through Napa, on a Napa card, and pay that off over six months, be it a $200.00 repair, or a $4000.00 repair, and its "same as cash" and a good deal of the time those parts are all under warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles (whichever comes first), not many places stand behind their work like this these days. Like I said, having grown up working on cars most all my life, I have NEVER, seen Brian or his staff make a repair, or suggest a repair that was not needed, I have actually had them give me a list of things that could be addressed, and then tell me what "should be done" and "what can wait", for later down the road. I would recommend them to ANYONE. I have read other reviews in which people claim they are "overpriced", but I have compared prices, and when you look at the facts, and throw in the warranty on the parts, the turnaround time of the repairs, and the fact that with that warranty there are over 14,000 service centers nationwide that will honor that warranty were you to have an issue while traveling, I would say there prices bring are more than fair, after all, how do you put a price tag on piece of mind. read more

OVER PRICED AND VEHICLE WASNT CHECKED TO MY SATISFACTION!! Charged over $25.00 labor to replace the cabin air filter that takes literally 15 seconds, was charged over $50.00 labor to replace the fuel filter that takes just a few minutes since the vehicle was being serviced. Was charged $34.95 to check out a problem that wasn't completely done and told to come back the next week and this was on an appointment. $277 oil change with fuel and cabin filter change. read more

I have taken my Kia Sportage to Ponder only a few times. Both times the people have treated me kindly and the work has been great. They have given me a ride back to my home each time. This last time the repairs on my vehicle were much more than I had expected and Bob told me about the NAPA 6 months no interest credit card which helped me with the cost. Melissa was extremely helpful when it was discovered that some of the repairs were caused by something that had been done by the previous repair shop that did work on my engine. She took it upon herself to contact the other shop and work with them on the cost which saved me $300. This was such a gift to me and I am totally grateful for this. I will continue to take my Kia to Ponder and will be a lifelong customer. I wouldn't recommend Ponder Auto Repair to anyone. I took my Jeep Wrangler for a typical oil change. It all started out when I walked in the door, I was greeted with information that I didn't have an appointment that day even though I called 2 days prior. I was told to bring the jeep in on Friday at 10am. I asked if I needed to reschedule or come back. They said no they could do the oil change. So, then when the jeep was done I was told I needed brakes on the jeep. Which I know is a typical thing that needs to be changed. I asked for an estimate of how much, I was told around $200 but it depended if the rotors needed repair. I agreed to make an appointment to get the brakes replaced. So I dropped the jeep on the following Tuesday for the brake replacement to be done on Wednesday. On Wednesday is when everything went down hill. My husband called me around lunch asking if I had heard anything about the jeep. I hadn't heard anything so I called around 1:30pm to inquire about the jeep. I was told they are almost done with the jeep and that they had to resurface the rotors, replace brakes and replace a caliber pen. I understand these things need to be done but I was never called stating all this needed to be done. I asked about the price and the guy said well I don't know exactly but it's going to be over $400! So I called my husband to ask if he had been contacted and gave them permission to complete all the repairs. He said no and that he hadn't been contacted. So he gets a call approximately at 3pm saying the jeep is ready. He goes to pay for it to find out the bill is $470! He goes to place the receipt in the jeep and also make sure everything is locked up since we weren't coming to pick it up until later that evening. He discovered there was a diagnostic tool laying in our passenger seat. He takes the tool back in to the guys who say thanks. Later that evening I get in the jeep to take it home, when I start the jeep I noticed the check engine light is now on. I turn the jeep off and restart to make sure I didn't do anything incorrectly. Nope, it was still on. So my husband was at Ponder auto care the next morning to ask about the check engine light that wasn't on when we dropped it off for the brake replacement. My husband was told that the light was not on when the tech did the test drive. Which I find hard to believe because it's all starting to make sense now on why the diagnostic tool was in the passenger seat. The owner then came out to talk to my husband and said he would take the diagnostic tool and check it out. The owner took the tool and then took the jeep for a test drive. The owner then sent the receptionist lady in to tell my husband the reason the light was on was due to coolant issue. She said the owner said the coolant issue would not cause the jeep to break down on the side of the road. Also, they cleared the light because all the fans are working and they don't see any issues but if the light comes back on bring it back and they can fix it. I do NOT think so. I understand cars need repair but I don't appreciate repairs being done without calling asking permission first. Secondly, i feel there was something going on the way the whole situation was handled. If the light did come on while the jeep was in their care why didn't they mention that to us when my husband paid for the brakes. Instead they didn't document anything about the light and it made my husband and i feel they were hiding something. Also, if it wasn't a big deal why didn't the owner come in and tell my husband face to face instead of walking in the back of the shop to avoid him? Sorry for the long review I just feel everyone needs to be informed of the service we received at Ponder Auto Care. I do not feel we received good service at all and i do not recommend anyone to go either. read more
