Her practice is primarily equine oriented, so she's regularly on the road going to farms and stables. But for dogs, treatments are done in her office. It is not a full service vet clinic. She doesn't have a website, so you have to reach her by phone and usually just leave a message. She's pretty quick to respond. Word of mouth brings in all the business she needs. Gretchen is very laid back, easy to talk with, and have a laugh. Our cancer dog, Argo, adores her. She has a very calming presence, so even this human relaxes. ;) I've been taking Argo monthly for acupuncture and chiropractic therapy as an adjunct to the oncology treatments. He already had pre-existing spinal problems (vertebral bridging) and other anatomical structural quirks from what looks like bad breeding. He is a rescue, so everything is a guess. I was always wary of chiropractic, but kept an open mind. Glad I did because it has really helped Argo; he feels and moves better immediately after little adjustments to his neck and lumbar spine. Eventually the acupuncture benefit was almost zero, not helping with the pain anymore, so we stopped that modality. We may go back to it for healing, now that the leg was amputated this week after it broke and will be doing chemo instead of radiation/pamidronate infusions. Those treatments did wonders for the bone pain. Definitely will be continuing with the chiro. He's going to need his spine kept in good shape as he adapts to being a "tripawd".

The front desk staff, Jess and Crystal, were very kind and welcoming. Our Vet Tech, Erica, was super sweet. Dr. Waples, was fantastic. She was thorough, understanding, honest, and listened with care. They cancelled surgery due to labs and said not to worry we will hold your deposit. I followed through with meds and more blood work to learn no improvement, high liver enzymes. Now they want to do an Ultra Sound $165 and possible a biopsy next. I expressed to Becka I cannot afford all this right now and would like to get a second opinion. Less than an hour and a half I receive a text stating my dog's records are ready, refund of deposit takes 7-10 business days (holding money since September) and asking whether my dog will return after second opinion? Seriously.... I am trying to digest the news, have not attempted to get a second opinion within 1 1/2 hours of getting results on the day after Thanksgiving! Is this now about money and not the wellbeing of my dog? Pretty disappointed in the lack of empathy from Becka. Received email from practice manager stating she no longer can offer care to my dog or any future dogs. First of all, I currently have two dogs that always come together showing she is not up to date with my file. So be warned if you voice a second opinion they dismiss you! And my refund for surgery they cancelled cannot be given to me in a check. They will credit my credit card that has zero balance! Thank you for further inconveniencing me in trusting in a veterinary that clearly made judgement verses empathy on the bad news of my dog.

Will return Will recommend based on this visit…read moreI used the emergency veterinarian service once before, and I felt my needs were addressed, and proper medication was given for my cat who was feeling ill at the time and it seemed to solve the issue. They were also very caring and concerned about my needs as well as my cats needs. I then needed to use this regular vet service because I was thinking my cat had allergy problems while the day before my visit was scheduled. Something had happened to his back end where he was limping. They still took him in under the appointment that I had booked for his allergies. I had a first thing in the morning appointment and they were very busy even at that point I waited about a half hour after my appointment before the vet tech came in. She did some ear swabs to check for an allergy or to check for an infection and then I waited an additional 20 minutes before the results could come back andthe vet to come in the room both Treated me with care and compassion as well as they did my cat they gave me some medication's, They talked me through the treatment plan what they thought it might be. They told me that my cat did have a heart murmur which was new to me and they recommended an echocardiogram which cost around $500.Dollars. I'm willing to go ahead and do that. To provide the proper care that my cat will need moving forward with his life he is only four years old. I did ask about an x-ray for his back area due to the limping. The doctor said I could if I wanted to pay the $250 but she felt that it wasn't necessary. Let's work with the medication's first and then we'll go ahead and do the x-ray if need be and I was OK with that. She said if the injury was very severe, he wouldn't have intermediate limping he would be lame and not moving and intolerable to discomfort. So, with all this being said, I did need to make some phone calls to the vet once I started the medication and to talk over some things that I had questions about after the visit and all of my phone calls were returned and they were all met with my satisfaction and my cats. He's doing much better. We just have to run the course of the medication. I hope that anybody else who uses this veterinarian service has the same encounter me, and my handsome fella have had

My sweet ringneck dove, Peppermint, was injured and starting to show signs of an infection, and I was absolutely terrified. Birds are so delicate and incredibly good at hiding illness until it's too late, so I immediately started calling around trying to find a vet who would even see a bird. Most clinics don't, but thankfully, Bedford Pet Urgent Care told me they could see her the very same day. From the moment we arrived, I felt so reassured. The receptionist was incredibly kind. When I needed to step away to use the restroom while waiting to see the vet, she offered to have Peppermint stay with her at the front desk and interacted with her so sweetly. That level of compassion meant so much to me. The vet we saw, Dr. Penraat, was absolutely wonderful. He handled Peppermint with such gentleness and care that she immediately trusted him (so much so that she happily perched on his head after the exam to show her affection). Watching how calm and comfortable she was with him truly spoke volumes. Dr. Penraat quickly identified the issue and prescribed effective medication, which worked amazingly well. Peppermint was noticeably better in less than a week. I was beyond relieved and so grateful for the excellent care she received. To my fellow bird owners in New Hampshire: I highly recommend them. This was hands down the best veterinary experience I've ever had. Finding a vet who is knowledgeable, comforting, and genuinely caring with birds is so rare, and Dr. Penraat is truly exceptional. He is friendly, thorough, and makes both pets and owners feel completely at ease. Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of my sweet bird. This experience truly meant the world to me and was definitely a standout one!
