They normally have buffalo chicken, pepperoni, cheese, and maybe 1 or 2 veggie options available for slices. However, they do run out towards the end of the day and don't make more. There isn't seating inside, but there are benches to enjoy your food outside. Service is usually quick and friendly. I've had the cheese slice and the artichoke pizza. Both are good slices. Great pizza isn't worth the kind of blatantly disrespectful behavior we experienced from the employee working the ovens this afternoon. A very nice older gentleman with a much more level head apologized for the behavior of the employee. Even offered us free pizza. But it seems that there's a pattern of accepting this kind of nonsense from their staff. It's too bad. I've been going to Pontillo's for fifty+ years, but today was the last time. It takes a lot to make me post a negative public review, and I waited several hours after the incident to be sure I wasn't just posting angrily in the immediate aftermath. We were those people who go to a pizza place and don't order pizza (gasp!). The food was still very good, and we are looking forward to updating the review when we try more than a cold sub and a calzone. The options for the two items we did have were great, though. You have the option to add a wide variety of fresh veggies to a sub, and the amount of meat given in the sub was more than expected. They toasted my bread when I specifically asked them not to (I don't like how rigid it makes the bread when the sandwich is loaded up), but I'm sure that had it not been toasted, I'd have been very happy with the sub. My husband's calzone was well made, with the crust being the best part. He noted that on its own, the taste itself was a bit wanting, but with the sauce they provide, it hit the spot. The shop isn't huge, but they do offer takeout, which is definitely preferred these days anyway. They do have a giant television in the dining area - unclear if this is always the case or if it's just because no one is dining in. Good pizza, medium thin crust, the bottom is crispy which I really like. Very convenient for slices, they have the same types available daily and have a sign so you can easily identify what they have. Tried the garlic broccoli and tomato, pepperoni and hot pepper (banana pepper), and regular pepperoni. All were good and consistent with thickness and crust texture. My wife and I had hoped to hit one of the most talked about restaurants in Rochester. But after getting up at 4am to start the drive from Toronto and sight seeing all over Rochester, we were dead tired by 7pm. So we decided to find some delivery on Yelp to our hotel room. Medium Pizza -pepperoni -sausage -hot peppers -black olives -bacon Delivery was within 45 min as they told me and the delivery guy was friendly and funny enough, seemed excited for us! The pizza was heavy. I'm talking the pizza box had heft! The pie was loaded with toppings. And arrived hot! I absolutely loved it, the crust was thick. The pizza was a bit greasy..but in a good way (and understandable with the amount of meat). You'll need forks for all the extra toppings that will fall off if you get this same pie. In Toronto we seem to have two types of pizza. Cheap tasteless (corporate) or thin crust and a light sprinkling of gourmet toppings). Pontillo's is a throw back to 80's or 90's pizza that I knew. Loved it! Wings, good size. Crunchy exterior, moist interior. Ordered hot - could have been hotter (spicy) - but they were steaming hot. My wife also ordered a toss salad. I didn't try it but I heard no complaints from her. Only problem was there was no cutlery included. Luckily the hotel had forks in the kitchen. As I write this I wonder when I'll next be able to get another pizza like this. Highly recommend! Ask for forks, and extra sauce on the side for the wings. read more

I phoned in to place an order yesterday and the guy was very brief with me--I don't like that. If you're talking with the public, you need to hire friendly people. Anyway, I ordered a garlic bread with cheese ($4.32) and he asked me what type of cheese, I went with provolone, he said 10 minutes. I got there in 15 and the guy was busy for several minutes cutting up pizzas and unloading them from the oven. Listen buddy, I get it that you're busy, but when a customer walks in for their order, get the darn thing, don't keep working until you're good and ready. He finally pulled by garlic bread from the oven and of course because of his poor attention to it, he left it in too long and the bottom and edges were overcooked. He took my money and I was out of there. Not sure I'll go back with poor customer service like that, and on top of it, we both felt sick from it the next day. Also, I noticed the pizzas they make are made with super thick crusts. And, the pizzas they have for slices (around $2.25) just sit out in the open on a rack, lord only knows what flies on top of them--no thanks. Honestly my family's ordered from this place a billion times, they have great pizza. But today, get this, so my mom calls and asks for a large pizza half pepperoni half garlic(I'm not a big red sauce fan), anyone in their right mind would go okay half the pizza garlic no sauce and the other half sauced up with pepperoni yk the usual. Tell me why we got a pizza half pepperoni but the other half is cheese pizza with minced garlic covering it. So I tell my mom and she calls them up like hey this ain't right what can we do? (This pizza was 32 dollars.) They make her wait and then go the next time you order we will give you three dollars off. That 3 dollars is only 60% of the TIP my mom gave of 5 bucks meaning we'd basically be buying a pizza for the exact same price. It's just disappointing to say the least cause I thought they would respond better or help us out somehow but nope. The cherry on top was the complimentary blue cheese - as it should be. Most places nowadays charge $2 for blue cheese the size of a bird dropping. Amazing pizza!! I'm basing this review on my 50+ times I've been here during the lunch time hours. On arrival they have a wonderfully planned system where tell them what you want and pay, while another employee is already preparing your slice or order. This is a great in and out process. For pizza slices they have all kinds. Also the pizza is very consistent, you will never have a bad slice... ever!! I have been eating at this establishment since the late 1980s / Early 90s and this establishment has slowly gone downhill. Here are some of my issues with Pontillo's in the basin: 1) Many times when you call the store, the employees are very curt, and they really don't seem like they are interested in your business and it is as if you interrupted them by calling. 2) Their hours are not listed on their website, instead they tall you when Delivery and Carryout times start. 3) I used to live in another part of the country and when I came home for a visit, I would want something from Pontillos. More times then not, I would call in around 8 PM and try to order something, and they would say "sorry the grill is closed," "it's too hot outside" - This could be any time of year. Meanwhile, a couple of miles away another Pontillo's location would have their grill on. 4) Now they have decided to wipe Steak Subs off of their menu. Note - this seems to be only at the Basin location and nowhere else. The bottom line is that this location does not give a damn about their customers and they do not offer the same choices as other Pontillo's in the area. With pizza joints now as readily available as a Starbucks coffee, there are plenty of other places to get a good slice, a good hoagie, and better service. read more
